I never actually use my gmail account (got one early), my Yahoo acount now also gives me a gig, and the two hotmail accounts i have add an extra half gig. All in all I have 2.5 gigs of web e-mail storage, and about 100 meg tops of old e-mails in them....what a waste.

Nope.
They use a smart system which tells you that you could put more in your box just because someone else haven't.

If all users suddenly started pumping in files, it would stop somewhere at the 20-30% of it's supposed capacity and then probably crush because of server overload.

They offer things that are useful, don't bug you, they work, they don't let you down, you can't say its worthless over another service, you can't say that Google has ever really let you down.; But I can say that about Yahoo, MSN, ICQ, other email services.
