You know Darsnan, I actually suspected the same based on same reasons.

If this is true, I hope that my fears about political correctness aren't true either.

So, it will be a time/quality race for a SMACX-cIV mod between Firaxis and Apolyton ?

I did an E-Bay search today: a copy of SMAC and SMAX going for $64 US. Another reason Firaxis might think this is the best $trategy....

The Academician's private residences shall remain off-limits to
the [STRIKE] PC Police [/STRIKE] Genetic Inspectors. We possess no retroviral capability, we are not researching retroviral engineering, and we shall not allow this Council to violate faction privileges in the name of this ridiculous witch hunt!"

If the game is as modable as we have been led to believe, why it shouldn't be too hard to smuggle a few samples of "chemical X" into the game.....

This is not what I meant. If they give it a try, one of my favorite factions, Believers shall probably be left out. If fundamentalism was left out of CivIII, what do you think it will happen to a fundamentalist faction?

Also, I would like all the old nasty stuff in, and even more. Potential of nanotechnology was never taken much into consideration - I want to combat xenofungus and other factions with grey goo.

I'd also read in one of the cIV threads that no atrocity weapons would be allowed into the game, so thats where I was coming from. Although not one of my (or most people's) favorite factions, why Miriam is still a "fundamental" part of the game....

how about super powered nanotech andriods? building one heralds the end of the game for EVERYONE. or maybe im going off the deep end....

i want on minor civs, and at LEAST 32 AI player support. i want stop scripting till i get that in,if it isnt already.ill have a guy shove pizza's under the door from time to time if i have to im weak at c++ so ill have to learn more as i go.thats my faction specalty tho

im going to write some ideas down tonight i think...

one thing i want to incorperate, and this will be the main push of my 'mod' will be a living map. so there isnt 7 or 32 civs and all emptiness....roving bands of survivors, single state CP's and bases...pirates...

be some serious work here tho, guys, you do realize?

I am afraid those two words are in conflict as IIRC "android" means a human-like robot.

Nanoplague would be fit, but it has a very good counterpart - EMP weapon.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

[OT]Why does everybody link nano technology with robots?? Nano technology is a very broad name. It covers everything that is man-made on nanometer scale. This ranges from very small logic building blocks to medicine. Maybe there has been a movie or serie that abused the name to refer to small robots or something? I really don't get it.[/OT]

Aside from that, an empty landmass is realistic. I can't imagine a very small group to survive on planet (let alone how they get there alive). As for the gameplay element, Firaxis tried to counter this with the fungus, mindworms, etc... in SMAC and the barbarians in Civ.

edit;in regards to the nano question

because people, unlike robots, are made up of impossibly complex systems. a robot could never could close to being like a human, but a anndriod, that mimics a humans build in every way, including the incredible small sizes of indivudual parts. nano means small,i think,so nano-tech just fits. and then it gets extended to andriods in the same way

and androids in sci fi are very similar to humans or having pervoiusly been humans, but upgraded.at least in the sci fi i see

heres the guy from my avatar for example

Full PM-box? Change here!

quote:

SMAC human-upgrade timetable:
1.Soc Psych (increased knowledge on psychology)
2.BioGenetics (allows 'genetical' selection)
3.SOFTHB (furthermore, I guess the fundamentalism it allows is WAY above the one we have had thus far, trance as well - something of an enchanced hypnosis)
4.Cent Emp (allows empath skills)
5.Neural Amplifier (mechanical upgrade of senses)
6.BioEngineering (some fiddling with cells)
7.MMI (mechanical upgrade allowing direct brain-digital system link)
8.BioMachinery (first cellar level links between human and machine)
9.Homo Superior (human cells transformed into amalgam of nanotechnology - hence the 'nanohospital' and biology, also enchanced one)
...

So, 'Cyborg' is something starting in L5 of my timeline and ending at L8 where transition in a "NanoHuman" begins.
Nanohuman would then be L8 - ... (matter editation and some other things would provide further upgrades).

On the "..." levels:

Imagine a human able of:

1.being 100 times as tough as steel or flexible as water - MatterEditation on cellar level (nano + matter Edit), but that would be possible only after matter editation on laboratory level, thus not on L10 as matter editation is techwise, but probably on L11 or so.

2.lifting himself into space - Antigravity on cellar level (also likely to come some time after lab antigravity)

3.Breathing in space, erm sorry, he even't won't need to breed, because he's feeding from Quantum Power plants sized as small as mitochondrius in our cells.

etcetc

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Thanks.

I have been keen on sci-fi since 6 or 7 years' age and some time around 13 or 14 I realised I've read all sci-fi literature available in Latvia (be it library or store).
Quit reading some time ago as I noticed a repeating pattern in the newest sci-fi works, but the thinking remained and when I saw the SMAC tree it immediately attracted me by it's logic and how discoveries follow each other.

This tree is by far the most realistic future technology predicting thingie I've seen on regards to human evolution(if we can call it so).

I once read an article on MSNBC where those "Genetically improved humans" (Sometime around BioEngineering by SMAC timeline) where estimated thousand years in future!
I was amazed by plain stupidity and blindness of the author as figures like 'million years' also could be find there..

In fact NG is in it's starting stages with those machines for blind with direct picture input to brain from camera.
BioEng also seem to be not so far with this intensive "longevity gene" search going on.
MMI will be here and commonly used in some 15-20 yrs IMO and nanohumans will follow in 10-15 more yrs if nothing changes in the current tendency of research and overall human development.
