Threatening anyone's life is a criminal offense. This is a little different.

I could say, I wish someone would kill you, and that wouldn't be a crime. I cannot make the same statement about the POTUS, no mater how I might otherwise feel. For example, a few years aback, a Souix City, IA, man said, "I'd sure like to see a burning Bush." He got six months.

Well, they could have special buses for cat people, etc. As for where the pet would be, how about in people's laps.

I understand the reasoning. I begrugdingly agree with it. It's just one more peice of pain that those people have to suffer when they've lost everything and been through a week of hell. I just feel for them.

NPR says the same thing. The official toll so far is 59, even though they know it's in the 1,000s. Apparently two emergency workers have committed suicide because of the stress.

And yet another correction...apparently, gunmen were shooting at the contractors, and the NOPD killed the people attacking the contractors.

I am not sure if anyone else has posted this already, but the labor department is setting up temp jobs for people who have no job because of the hurricane. They are also going to let self employed and people who just got new jobs to get unemployement insurence. So at least people will have some money in their pockets when they are trying to but their lifes back togather.

Heard on bbc radio (can't see it on the site) that there are still 120 britons unaccounted for. Considering they make up a very small percentage of the people affected it makes me fear what the final death toll will be. I guess partly it's lack of communications though.
