Special offer for the US for Pre Order and EB Games is saying it ships on 24 October.

quote:
Pre-order and receive the Civilization IV Pre-Order Edition!
Pre-order customers only will receive the following:
Collector’s case: Navy blue "leatherette" bookshelf case embossed with the Civilization IV logo.
CD Soundtrack: Containing original compositions by Christopher Tin (http://christophertin.com/news.html) and Jeffrey Briggs (composer of Civilization II), as well as classical pieces throughout the ages.
Keyboard template: A die-cut keyboard layout for quick reference to keyboard commands during the game.

It's good news.
It means the game is finished.
They would never move the games 2 weeks earlier for financial reasons since that would hardly give any financial benefits anyway. (half a year earlier would)

If dates are pushed back, that means that things are wrong and they're working on it. In the end that means that you can never be sure that the game will be finished when it's released.

There's an agreement between TTI and Firaxis, TTI can't simply say: "we want it two weeks earlier".
This just means that Firaxis thinks it's finished.

Which means that the game if finished when the developper thinks it's finished which is really really good.

Oh, and of course it's even better that we get the game earlier!

Well, Amazon.co.uk has a different date than what is the official European release date. Take-Two Interactive has set 19th October as the final date.

http://www.computerandvideogames.co...y.php?id=125151

That will be on Tuesday in roughly one months time.

Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

I'm not making the mistake of buying it blindly on the release date before the dust settles again... I'll wait at least a month before spending any $$$ on it, it usually takes a while before one can read some hype-free reviews from an excepted game.

Put an end to popups!

his point is that the game may suck.
I don't believe the game will suck since neither civ1, civ2 nor civ3 sucked.

Tired of ads?

Buying a game prematurely isn't wise IMO. Even if it's all a player can ever wish for, there's always the possibility that it will simply refuse to run on your comp. Seen it happen enough.

Two weeks isn't going to make or break the bug fixing cycle since they've had private players actually helping beta the game for the past 2+ months.

Unlike Civ3 there were no mass defections on the production team and things haven't been as hectic for them. Since they are publishing with an "in house" company they will be able to release bug fixes and patches much quicker than when they had to ask permision from Infogrames/Atari.

As I said, two whole weeks isn't going to mean much when the product has been in development for 2+ years. Or at least it shouldn't.

True, but I couldn't remember exactly how long but I knew it was longer than 2 months. :P

It's been long enough that I hope they'd have most of the major bugs out by the time it ships and the balance fairly well developed, especially if they had players like Sirian, Sulla, and various others helping.

Hmmm, isn't Take2 involved into the process? Official Civ IV site is not in Firaxis hands... (hint, hint...).
