I'm sorry if I missed it, but I didn't find a topic about how to get in a pbem here - expected a postit or some kind of announcement for newbies. ¿How often do games start? ¿Are there any people waiting for one? ¿Is signing in or something like that required? ¿Do I have to bring birth certificate, blood type, identity document, or any special paper? ¿Will I be forsaken for opening pointless threads about stuff everyone knows already?
Sorry for annoying you... seriously.

Does this one count?

Thanks for your counsel, comrade. Let's see if I can work this out...
SMAC (not expansion)
"Standard" world:
- Standard Planet
- 50% Ocean Coverage
- Average Erosive Forces
- Average Native Forms
- Average Cloud Cover
Difficulty Level:
- Transcend
Game Rules ON:
- Higher Goal (Victory by Trascendence)
- Total War (Victory by Conquest)
- Peace in Our Time (Victory by Diplomacy)
- Mine, All Mine (Victory by Economy)
- One for All (Cooperative Victory)
- Look First (Flexible Starting Locations)
- Blind research (Cannot set precise research goals)
- No Unity Survey (World map not visible)
Don't expect much from me as this is my first multiplayer experience (to be perfectly honest, I've started a game with some friends months ago, playing real time - that is, one turn a year). For the sake of getting this up and running as soon as possible, I'll take any faction I'm ordered, but I won't conceal my preferences: Peacekeepers, Gaians, Hive, in that order of preference.
Play fair, roleplay, have fun... I hope.

Advise: you'll find precious few people who want to play with blind research. The game becomes a case of getting lucky to get to environmental economics first. With energy restrictions lifted that person has extremely boosted research.

So tempting. I've played with Blind Research as part of the Masochism Alley. Blind Research, Tech Stag, that sort of thing. Quite hateful. And please spare yourself the pain, and don't play the Believers, like I tried. Fusion Power before the wheel? Also, Leon, for PBEM games, you'll need what is termed a CMN, a Creator-Moderator-Narrator, who will do passwords, basic setup, depending if you want an altered map, etc.

It just so happens that I've got a lovely map already made that I was making for another game that fell through. Its been made for 4 human players and 0 AIs but is otherwise close to your specifications. Useful to you?

Could have been worse... we still could play against [+6 morale, +6 industry, intense rivalary on] AI's and try to emerge victorious... (doesnt' sound that a bad idea now that I think of it).

Some time ago, I was playing a game with blind research. I have to admitt, it is quite intriguing. it was pbem, SMAC mod.
And I feel like trying Believers. If it is going to be difficult, then your lessons will be this much more valuable.
Count me in as Father Mart.
P.S.
definitely blind research please, otherwise I will go establish my church on another space rock...

Like you can change in the faction file:
Priority effect, e.g. EFFIC
Priority social choice
May not use - social choice
Are these saved into a save file? like those 8 faction traits?

I try to think of all ideas I had so far here:
- Single Player Map Collection
works ok so far, and we will have possibly more maps soon
- Ultimate ruleset for PBEM games
never started work on this. But I feel it is needed. Still in most of the games there are issues to solve.
What I have in mind is something really elaborate.
- CMN tweaks for AI
New idea here. Complete list of possible tweaks to the AI. Also an elaborate one. With explanations. Both requiring alphax.txt editing and those without this need.
A lot of work.
As I think of it, we might also take care of some
Ultimate SMACX Knowledge Database
This would be a collection of all quality files made by people for this game. In more detal:
- Backup of Firaxis files, patches, etc.
- Faction Files from all the net, witch graphics
- Challenge games, Scenarios, Map collections etc.
- Rulesets, Strategy guides, our CMN guide, etc.
- Stories made by authors public
And this might be kept on CDs, by at least several persons in order to ensure it would not be lost. Making an additional CDs is now not a big problem.

Well, if this is ok for the rest of the players, I would recommend the game to have 3 or 4 human players. This would make the game a bit faster. We have now 3 players, if 4, then we need one more. 5 player games are rather long time.

Ouro, any faction of choice?
I will quote Leon Trotsky: "preferences: Peacekeepers, Gaians, Hive, in that order"
I chose Believers, just to have fun and tough play, since you recommended it. And I feel like bringing more spirituality recently.
Where is Leon by the way?
