There is a land in the north of ice and snow. Yet a light burns brightly in an old scientists cabin late as his birchwood fire still holds like a bastion of warmth amid the dark and cold.
All around is talk on the wind of dividing what is not owned, but really there is no one else, only us the Russ.
Discovery begins as a dream of what ISN'T but can be, only IF...and when once it IS, the builders then connect this to another dream of what could be only IF...
But is it NOT, if it is not yet known?
And of all that is, how much do we know?
What is, is, whether we know or not.
Nei, what we know is not all of what is, fund and support the scientists!! Thus it has been decreed in the land of the Russ. Keep the horsemen ready, for all that is, is not only knowing, and must be protected from the unknown.
Thus ends the brief but influencial thinking period in Russ history as it was then. Fishing and hunting remain high on the list of important matters, and yes of course the sun revloves around the earth. We know this.

Indeed, Capo did a tremendous job trying to charm and then scare me into giving him a port in Spain. Then stirring up trouble in the English Channel with the Brits. Some bantering about crushing the French because of a British threat?
Now we all know what happened to Cujo.....if only he'd had his rabies shots it never would have happened.
The Most Christian Sun King, Louis XIV of France, hopes that the upstart pretender of Germany has been ousted and replaced by its rightful ruler. Long live Beserker and may we resume the path we formerly tread. May your peoples never be mislead by mad dogs again!

Message from Duke Frederick of Prussia to his Majesty King Berzerker....
My Lord,
I entered into negotiations with the French, I was aware that our great empire was not one of martime qualities, therefore I attempted to establish trade ports on the Mediterranian sea. However, the French, in their characteristic pomp and arrogance did not wish to even hear out my offer to the most Christian King Louis.
Further, a dispute arose with our brethren the British. I implore your highness to understand that I have done all that was in my power to serve his grace in his time of illness. T'was a very tough and menial task, however I believe I carried out numerous tasks that will be looked upon with grace by his majesty. Establishing trade routes with such nations as France, Britain and the Moslem King of the Turks. I had also comissioned Johan Sebastian Bach, one of Germany's finest composers, a Cathedral in Hamburg to entertain your bloodline for years to come.
My lord, the British are quite a violent and aggressive nation. I was quickly informed that we had, on loan, a ship from British harbours. As I was using this vessel to expand our maritime commerce with our British friends, the ship had happened upon a strange wind from the north and was unable to move from its position off of the British coast (there was a glitch that disabled me to move the ship), upon this ship was an envoy boasting the finest Copper in Germany. The British insisted that I return the ship despite these problems, after realizing that we would lose the Copper, I relented but decided that friendship with Britain was more important than a few hundred shillings. Therefore, I told the British that I would indeed return their ship despite the loss of his Majesty's riches. They quickly responded with a threat. Sire, I understand that peace and friendship is in your interests, however I saw quite expediciously that the British were not the understanding friends you had assumed, but were embroiled with greed and envy, as I realized Germany had no navy to teach the vile British a lesson in German manners, I soon felt the need to show them the error of their ways by declaring war upon the French, the allies of the British.
If it pleases his Majesty, I will provide a log of our negotiations with the British, as you can see I am not lying as the vile lords of Britain would have you believe.
I implore you, would you believe a fellow German or some Anglo?
Duke Frederick the Fifth of Prussia

The Empire of Austrian and Hungarian Tribes advanced dramatically through the years 425 BC to 50 BC. In circa 400 BC Jesus Christ was born in Palestine, and the secret of Monotheism spread quickly to the Austrians and Hungarians through Macedonia (just don't ask what the term "B.C." stands for - no one seems to know). In 300 BC a Christian fleeing the officially Mystical regime of Rome settled in Budapest and painted a stunning fresco in the Sistine Chapel there. His name was, of course, Michelangelo. The Pope of Budapest sent ambassadors of the faith forth to Germania, where the peaceful tribes received the message joyfully. Meanwhile, in the Middle East Islam was born, and Christianity was virtually wiped out of the place of its origin.
The Germans, meanwhile, advanced quickly in the faith and invented the science of Theology, which enabled the building of a massive cathedral containing a great organ played by that great German, Johann Sebastian Bach. (Baroque music, too, was invented around 100 BC.)
In other events, a brash Russian commander of a mounted lancer troop attacked an Austrian horsemen troop, killing them all. The Russian government profusely apologized for the behavior of their captain, and outfitted the Austrian Empire with another brigade of mercenary horsemen, in exchange for which the Austrians promised never to approach the Russian homeland again.
In 238 BC, the nobles of Carinthia and Budapest marched on Vienna to demand concessions from Vindobonix, the Celtic ruler of the area and self-proclaimed Emperor of Austria, Hungary, and Slavonia. His increasingly overbearing tactics in unifying the hinterlands into a single empire had provoked the nobility. Therefore, they forced Vindobonix to consent to a House of Margraves, which would allow the most important nobles to have a veto over policy. The Austrian areas were, of course, overrepresented relative to the Slavic and Hungarian areas. This oligarchic arrangement signalled the beginning of Limited, rather than Absolute, Monarchy in Austria. It allowed the nobles to undertake measures, such as enclosure, that rapidly increased productivity and the empire's population. Furthermore, both internal and external trade increased as some Austrian cities joined German cities in a Hanseatic League.
By 50 BC, the Austrian Kingdom was expanding rapidly, while strategic relations with the German Empire aided the development of technology.

Ozzy I- ARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!! *cough* *cough*
Son- Father, shhh, calm yourself, don't put too much strain on yourself in your condition.
Ozzy I- Its too late....I didn't have enough time...*haakkk*....now i have mere days, perhaps hours to live. I didn't have enough time...
Son- Enough time for what father?
Ozzy I- Enough time to save the kingdom. I watched in horror as my father cavorted with the English queen, all the time neglecting the country. The "Sun King" was more interested in Boudicca's moon than in running this nation properly.... I.... *CHAAAKKK*
Son- My grandfather was a great man! He built us this beautiful palace, and he...he...
Ozzy I- Bah! Rubbish, my father did nothing for France. He created this palace as a lair for his sexual exploits, but nothing more. Bunch of fountains and bushes, but not all that grand.....not even wonderous enough for the rest of the world to take notice. In fact there isn't ANYTHING about France wonderous enough for the world to take notice.... If only I had more time.....
Son- Shhhh Father, you are talking too much, calm yourself.
Ozzy I- No, I must speak, there is much to be said. My time in this world is quickly slipping away, I must set things right. When I took over for my father I came to a nation in disrepair.....Small in size, lacking in population, behind in technology...we were a runt state, if not for our gracious allies we could have been crushed by outsiders. *cough* *cough* The land on the continent is quickly being gobbled up by our neighbors....yet he squandered our potential building fancy things in our cities. We need to expand...I have started the process, but I do not have enough time to finish. It is up to you, son to finish.
Son- I will do my best Father.
Ozzy I- I have tried to fix this nation, but we were too backward for one lifespan to correct. I have taken us from the least populous nation in the world to 3rd, only trailing behind our powerful English allies and our peaceful German neighbors. Our French subjects are now numerous and wish to find new homes.....that is why, son, we must expand.....Cities all over the kingdom are gearing up to send off their sons and daughters to fill out our land, and bring the untamed land of Espaina into our grasp. Our allies the English and the Italians have both respected our claims to land we never could have settled under my father. But now, soon, we will have what is due to us...we will have the land we are owed...we will have.... *cough* *cough* *HAAAKKKK*
Son- I will father, I will expand, I won't let you down.
Ozzy I- Thank you son, it is my last dying wish, catch up with the world....don't let us fall behind.......

Following the construction of the Sistine Chapel in Budapest and the revolution enshrining limited monarchy into the Austro-Hungarian constitution, the constituent peoples of the sprawling feudal kingdom set about, with varying success, to expand into virginal lands in both the Balkans and Eastern Europe. Furthermore, an Austrian expedition, led by Slovenian seafarers and Carinthian colonists, has arrived in North Africa. The Romans have agreed to allow the Austro-Hungarian Kingdom to colonize the western portion of North Africa, as the territory is large enough for at least two colonizing civilizations.
Austrian expansion into Switzerland was thwarted when the French objected on the grounds that the Germans had consented to allow the Swiss to live under French suzerainty. The Austrians made a separate treaty with the French; in return for 75 chests of gold, Switzerland was ceded to France, on the further condition that Swiss workers would not be allowed to cross the border into the territory of Tirol.
Tirol was also the site of the invention of skiing circa 200 AD. The town of Innsbruck became the center of the new sport, which at this stage was as yet highly dangerous and did not spread to other parts of the mountainous Austrian fiefdoms.
