Tired of ads?

Well with all of Albérts turns I have been unable to prepare a proper invassion
Seriously the grenadiers where built as a precautionary messaure, I was convinced you where going to attack me, so I set out to build atleast one grenadier+stockade per huron city, now they are a formidable force, hehe...

Similar measures where taken in Europe...

Mosquito Coast Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

I had a look at our previous posts and in 1694 (page 7) the founding of Mosquito Coast was announced - and no Spanish threat was made. The development of that colony has been going quietly along until they trespassed on those banana growers.

Spain chose not to evict them, but to declare war instead. (Fair enough, as I didn't move them immediately, if a bit aggressive of the Spanish ) I'm happy enough, it was time for a bit of a war.

At the conclusion of the last war, we agreed (with Manuel's reluctant consent) that dipolmats/missionaries were not to be used to steal tech. I imagine that agreement is still in force, but I restate it here to remind everyone. Are we all still prepared to go along with that?

Manuel, that agreement is hardest on you. I think it's a good one, but you should be compensated for losing most of the Jesuit unit's value. Here's an idea: how about each of the other players gifting the Spanish with 200 gold? In return, NO tech stealing by anyone. OK?

Finally, it is good to have the suspected Franco-Spanish alliance out in the open. It will be remembered that England did not start this war, nor give any reasonable provocation for it. Indeed, the Crown gave the Spanish explicit permission to evict any colonists trespassing on their possessions.

Spain politely asked to her gracious Majesty not only to withdraw the English presence in the banana plantation but to return it to the Spanish citizens of Mérida, which was never carried out. This is the reason for this war and that's why The Spanish Authorities have put a price on the Governor of Kingston's head. England voluntarely refused to give teh bananas back, despite Spain warned that it would be considered as an act of war against the Spanish Crown. Such agression is duly included in the terms of the Bourbonic Alliance, a reciprocal defensive pact against any kind of English agression.

OK, fair enough. The best way would have been to declare war through the diplomacy sceen, then not attack anything. As I said, though, it hardly matters.

Looks like the attacks on Kingston and St Kitts have been planned for some time!

Old Henry Morgan finally got what was coming to him, eh?

We can do the gold transfer only when England is again at peace with you. France and Holland can do it right now, if they indicate their agreement.

England's armies and fleets are widely scattered in their peacetime dispositions. It will take some time to deploy them. Watch out when I do, though!

The Dutch say that we cannot and will not make such a payment.

How about all of you gifting me a city and money for the horrid postion Holland is in throughout this scenario, being bottled up in a corner, with colonies that are horribly exposed and poorly defended, being saddled with "Republic" with small cities so that if any unit is built you only have one shield of production to make anything else!

For play balence the ambassador/Jesuit thing was agreed upon, to drain my weak treasury further is unjust to my small country which already has so many disadvantages.

I do understand your position! The only reason that I suggested it, was that the rule change was made AFTER we started the game (for balance, as you say, and to try not to discourage warmaking too much).

It is to my advantage to drop the payment idea, of course, but if we can't be unanimous, the No Tech Stealing rule will stand, with no payments to the Spanish in recompense.

I have now finally got back on to Poly, as you see, so will play my turn in the next hour or so.

1711 - The English fight back... Increase Your PM Length

The English Move:

Still reeling from a Spanish attack in which three line infantry regiments, one battery of Artillery, one band of Buccaneers and a Merchant vessel were wiped out for the loss of only three Spanish assault parties, a small counter-attack was mounted on Kingston. Although the scattered English forces in the vicinity were insufficient to retake the town, one company of Arquebusiers was eliminated and a privateer and a merchant vessel burnt at their moorings. The town was so thinly held that the battle for it must have been a close-run thing.

An amphibious attack on Fort Oshawa by the Highland Brigade caused a French Regiment of Grenadiers to rout, along with their escorting Dragoons. A French Brig was also cut from her moorings and burnt, along with a merchant vessel. There were very few Scottish fatalities - although many were wounded - and all units reformed to march into the fort. The fort has been renamed Fort Anne, in honour of our gracious monarch.

On the Northern Front, several battalions of French Grenadiers were observed marching up the Great Moose River, towards Fort Albany and Rupert's House. They were engaged by the fort artillery, but the ancient barrels - never before fired in anger - blew up in the garrison's faces, and caused more discomfort to our own people, than to the enemy. The scouting battalion from Rupert's House was last heard of disappearing into the northern wastes, hotly persued by no less than three French Grenadier regiments!

At home, the Queen has had to ask Parliament to raise war taxes to pay for new recruiting, especially as the home island can no longer be considered to be safe from Bourbon attacks.

**********

That's it. Phew, these amphibious assault units really make a difference in this scenario. No-one's safe!

The Spanish Authorities prefer to keep silent about the number of casualties suffered but this time they will make an exception:

Report on the take of Mosquito Coast

-Stockade destroyed
-Merchantman sunk
-Privateer sunk
-Demi Culverin destroyed
-Boarding Party executed
-Couple of Pirates executed

Spanish Casualties:

-none

The city of Mosquito Coast now rightfully controls a banana plantation

1712 - a bit late, sorry! Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations

The taking of Fort Anne wiped out an English Musketeer regiment, three Scottish/Irish Clans, a Galleon, and a Merchant ship. One French Grenadier unit was seen to be slightly damaged.

The attack on Plymouth destroyed the Old City Walls there, a Trades Goods unit, and a Man 'o War and a merchantman resting in the harbour. In addition, a Man o' War in Canada supported by Plymouth was lost. (I HATE that rule!) In Fort Albany, the Stockade was destroyed and the settlement taken.

Another merchant vessel - empty - was sunk off Cornwall. Apart from Fort Albany and Plymouth, the abandoned Port Francois was occupied by the French. A Galleon was sunk in the harbour at Tortuga by a single raiding party.

As the Bourbon alliance are not posting their casualty reports, I will do it for them:

For all this, the French lost one Grenadier and one Dragoon regiment. Indeed a great success for French Arms.

The English counterattack saw an encroaching Grenadier battalion near Fort Niagara routed. English casualties were heavy, however. As many English Grenadiers as French were killed, and the English Fort artillery was ruined in the effort. Fresh re-inforcements were rushed into the fort.

In Devon, an advanced French Dragoon regiment was counter-attacked by our Dragoons, and our men were victorious. Re-inforcements to meet the French forces now established in Plymouth were rushed up. The Royal Navy sortied from Portsmouth and Exeter and two French ships of the line were sunk. It was fortunate our ships were so close to their home ports, however, as they were fearfully knocked about and will take years to repair fully.

In the St Lawrence estuary, an attack was mounted upon the Fort at Ile St Jean, which was easily taken, for no loss. An English naval squadron at once rebased there (along with significant land forces in support) and immediately destroyed a Spanish Man o' War lurking off the coast.

Despite these successes, the peace-loving traders of England are finding it hard to fight off the two large Bourbon powers. Although our Dutch co-religionists have made it clear that they do not wish to become involved, we would point out that, if England falls, they are likely to be next.

1713 - supplement. A counter attack by three Dragoon regiments on Exeter was brushed of with NO French casualties! (Why are my attackers so poxy?! )

The English peace party is making significant gains in Parliament...
