I would appreciate it too, but there are other features that i would rather have (primarily Upgradeable Units)

This is an excellent idea. As someone who owns Civ:TOT dealing with scenario conversions is one of the most frustrating things, expecially since my historical interest increasingly draw me away from the original game.

A feature that would allow the running in civ 3 of the user developed scenarios for MGE and FW would be a major reason to buy Civ 3 soon, and would offset many disappointments wrt to the Civ3 original game.

Scenario import would certainly be very welcome.

I have always had problems with the way artillery has been represented in almost every computer game (except the hardcore wargames) because they grossly oversimplify it and usually make it too powerful. If it was really possible to win battles with 1 brigade of infantry and 1,000 pieces of artillery then armies would have shaped themselves toward that optimum through the last 500 years of warfare. In reality a barrage is only useful as a precursor to an attack by ground troops. That is one reason why I am keen to see a proper army system in Civ III with artillery support in the army rather than the proposed queue system and separate range bombardment command.

Obviously I think this is, to me personally, the MOST important feature in Civ3. Within a month or two after playing (and re-playing) the main game in Civ3, some/many? hard-core civers will be burned out from it or become bored with it. What then? Scenarios (esp. if they can convert the many, many great Civ2 ones) will be the fuel that will keep the Civ3 fire going.

Scenario Importing Put an end to popups!

I wrote a column some months back, wherein I suggested that there should be an awesome scenario editor in civ3, as much better than the civ2 editor as it was to civ1 editing.

I further suggested, that to show off the power of their editor, they would include a mod for civ1, civ2, and AC. something the civ2 editor is unable to do properly for civ1 See the "civ mod for civ2" thread in the hs-scenario league forum)

I hope the Editor is powerful enough to reinstate all the play imbalances in civ2 for our civ2 fans, meaning that you wouldn't need your copy of civ2 anymore.

hopefully, you could just simply drop your favorite scenarios into a subdirectory of your civ2 mod.

IF ( a BIG if) the editor is good enough, we will do what firaxis probably won't do to avoid legal complications: make a CTP and CTP2 mod and import those scenarios.

but to have the editor good enough to make a reasonable version of civ2, would indeed be a BIG step to easily importing your civ2 scenarios.

Otherwise....... I'm trying to imagine playing the moojr scenario with the resources popping up like in the civ3 previews...

Nah. Worry about the game. Let the public do the mods and scenarios.

I say make it happen. Converting old scenarios to a new format will not mean that other game features suffer. The game will be up to expectations before released. Believe it!

Of course the public will do the scns/mods. But this will be a lot easier with the option for converting old civ2 scenarios...

I, for one, love the idea... but maybe that's because I wrote the column.

But seriously, are there any problems with my idea, tell me
