2001 Players Tourney, Round 1

Group B: Markus (Host), Deity, Hydey, Makeo

OK, we gotta get this scheduled.

The best times for me are USA FRi or Sat night. I think we have to schedule this over other games so how about it?

BTW Markus, my slow turns were in Simul mode which exacerbates the serious lag problems I have anyway; so stop whinging about turn length and enjoy the quality of the game.
I was kicking your butt in that game you referred to and I'll kick your butt here too

I have it on good authority that a slowpoke is preferable to a fastpoke......

--------

To the game, I reckon it would be good form for the host to choose their civ last when we go in to pick civs. I trust Markus more than just about anyone but I think it feels right if the host just holds back.

I agree with the Cavebear rules (as if I had any choice!) and don't wish to add any further restrictions. I was a bit bothered with no unit bribe but now I think it's cool... hope AH doesn't read this

bla bla bla. I want germany, as i play it every single time i play a game. Kicking my ass diety? LOL the game was over the instant me and bezerker co-operated. (need i forget to mention that i started with all plains and white mountains while you had rivers) You can't compete with +50 trade routes etc. Plus my science and tax production was 15% over yours... i hardly call that winning
sat night. is ok. this game better not drag on into next year.

Markusf is no big deal Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations

I played this blowhard, won one, lost one.

He needs to be attacked early, his whole strat is based on trade and keeping distant from rivals - that's why he conceded our first game early - I was right next to him.

He spends virtually nothing on defence - uses 1 warrior even for his major cities. If there are barbs in the game he's f#cked as well.

But if he survives, he goes for a tech lead and then buys an army or navy and comes after you. If you can't kill him early, don't let him get a tech lead. But whatever happens, attack and harrass him at every turn.

He's like Eyes - needs certain settings to be a master. He's a very good player though.

He won't replay our save - wonder why.

Odds of a Hydey win 1 million to 1 Increase Your PM Length

I can also play US Friday and Saturday nights although on the Friday nights I will need to stop for my sons basketball games ( 2 hours) but can give the times of those.

I don't feel the need to sook over which civ I am but you guys should feel free to sook away.

As the huge underdog in this game, I will just enjoy been allowed to play with these 3 civ greats and there differing styles.

Before we start I would like to wish everyone even luck and a fun game.

I do my drinking at home. It's cheaper and you don't get in as much trouble. Plus, there are no long lines at the bathroom.

For the first round, I do not try and arrange games by ranking, I try to make the games easy to arrange by time zones where possible (and even that doesn't always work out).

I try to keep the highest-scoring players competing in subsequent rounds, though. While I want this to be enjoyable for everyone, the main purpose is to arrive at the "best" player. Unless scheduling makes it impossible to keep the highest-scoring players competing with one another, that is my first selection factor for Rounds 2, 3, and 4.

In an ideal situation, the top-scoring players would all meet in the last round, but sometimes reality intrudes. Last year, it worked out pretty well that way.

Horse opens book: Go Deity! Put an end to popups!

Deity even money favorite

Markusf 6 to 4

Makeo 2 to 1 and late mail

Hydey 100 to 1 (write your own odds!)

I think I'll have $10 on makeo - Deity and markusf are too short

Now, understanding that I do not arrange these groupings with any initial expectation of the results...

Gee Hydey, I think you should be *at least* 1,000 to 1! You underestimate yourself! The odds are at least decent that all the other players computers will die at a critical time. And there is always the possibility of an asteroid striking North America...

See? You have a good chance of winning!

I take it we are still set to stat this thing in about 14 hours time.
I will definitely be here to play but due to an accident at work , I have severe concussion and 12 stitches in my scalp, I may require to have an occasional break. I won't know until I get up tomorrow.

Thanks for your understanding.

will Hydey reach round 2 ?? Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

Well this super game got going today, we soon discovered that we all shared the same land and the mad rush to settle the land began. Some minor squabbling but nothing to serious, at the end of the session it appears Markus has a good lead but Makeo is chasing him hard, Hydey is not out of it in third and Deity is struggling a bit but he is allied to Markus and I'm sure is getting plenty of help. I think the game is quite well balanced with 1st and 4th allied and 2nd and 3rd allied. The next session should prove very interesting.
