Turn to Madrid.

Welcome to Chapter VIII, Beloved Children.

I am sorely disappointed that despite the fine words regarding environmentalism the filth continues to belch forth from the Cities of Spain and Greece in ever larger volumes. More worrisome still is that the most vocal champion of Gaia, Chairman Thor, in fact is leading the nation with the most rapidly rising Pollution of any! Even Wales has now begun to climb the 'Graph of Shame' leaving only France, not counting the shattered Australians, pure of heart, mind and deed.

Blessings,
St Jon, Hope amidst Despair.

Spain at no point undertook to make any cutbacks in pollution - the cut of one third of her pollution output at the time was an act of goodwill that seems to be repeatedly ignored...

It is also a far larger cut than that made by all other nations combined!

Should she reverse this decision, seeing that no one seems to be appreciating it...!?

Indeed the latest pictures coming in from our Globesat reveal that it is the Incans who have the dubious privilege of creating the World's first dead tile...

We therefore assume that these 'concrete steps' that King Thor talks about include greatly reducing Inca's pollution output - and have nothing to do with the fact that her military readiness is still set at 'On Alert'...

As for Wales' imminent attack on Tamworth, Spain feels that it would be highly inappropriate to do so under a flag of peace!

Remember it was Spain that was originally attacked by the Australians and not the Welsh. Breaker Morant has fled the wreckage of his nation and therefore so too has all reason to continue war with the Australians...

"Respected Spanish,

We had expressed our gratitudes to your efford to reduce your pollution from the begining and I beleive that you will continue the same policy.

Regarding Tamworth, the Welsh already ordered general attack against it. The Australian terrorists are not to be taken lightly. They are a severe thread to the Welsh and must be eliminated.
However you have my personal guarranty that the civilian lives will be spared and be offered a better life.

My peaceful brother, St Jon of the French I would ask you to remove your ship from the Welsh coastline.
If you wish knowledge of our lands we shall hapilly exchange maps with you."

Turn 144 --> Comrade Thor

As Tamworth is but a small enclave, we hope that the wise King Constantine will show mercy by sparing the lives of the innocent civilians who had no choice but to bow to the will of Breaker Morant's henchmen. No doubt, to have done otherwise would have meant condemning their loved ones to the infamous dungeons of Sydney.

The assertion by St Jon that France produces no pollution is either delusional or merely dishonest. Modern science has given us sophisticated methods to measure the presence of pollutants, like throwing the entrails of a chicken into the air. If they land right-side up, it is obvious that there are pollutants in the air. There are other, less modern ways, but we are a modern nation, and use only the most up-to-date methodology. And we have seen the proof that France is a highly polluting nation. As our ancient ancestor Aristotle said, "Denial is not just a River in Egypt!".

Meanwhile, our own pollution levels are finally leveling off, as we attack the problem with ever-increasing vigor.

----Out of Turn----

Beloved Xenophon,

I do not deny that France occupies a distant third place on the 'Graph of Shame' but when the relative size of our respective nations and general City size is taken into account it is but a drop in the ocean. France does not have a single City in the worst ten list and but three in the worst thirty! Most important of all is that French Pollution is stable and based solely upon City size. As an entirely agrarian nation unpossessed of a Military to support France has not built anything worse than Mills to grind her corn!

France cannot do anything, short of the heresy of birth-control, to reduce her miniscule output of contaminents. How do Welsh and Inca justify their ever rising levels when they are naught but collections of villages? I can understand that Spain, as the World Superpower and Empire of many mighty Metropoli, will ever face great challenges to control her Pollution and I can likewise sympathise with a mighty industrialised nation like Greece but both could swiftly develope the technology to construct Recycling Plants rather than new methods of killing people!

I plead with all to note just how close we are to disaster!

Blessings,

24hr Rule Invoked - Turn to Madrid.

Beloved Children,

The woeful decline of our precious Planet's eco-system continues unabated. French research estimates less than sixty Turns before global catastrophe and, with no effort being made on the part of any industrialised nation to curb their toxic emissions, this is bound to accelerate!

France cannot claim that her concern is entirely altruistic for many of her major metropoli are coastal and but a small rise in sea level could result in the death of millions of innocent souls. I plead with you Noble Xenophon to, if only, think of the precious live's of your own people for as vulnerable as Strasburg and Marseilles are to France Thermopolyae and Megara are no less so to you. Likewise I say unto my Brother of Spain think of your loyal people in Santander for if disaster strikes they will as surely die as my flock in Tours.

It would appear that Chairman Thor is deaf to reason and far more concerned with the heretical doctrine of Communism than for either Planet or people. I pray that King Constantine is not of like mind and that his decision to callously massacre the innocent folk of Tamworth does not set a precedent for Welsh indifference to human suffering.

Love to All,

Message to the French

For a non military nation pure of deed, the French sure do have an interesting definition of such words...

Globesat images over French territories have picked out no fewer than 23 military units on the ground and outside of their city confines. Whilst the majority of these are ancient units, it is troubling to see the odd Marine, Battleship and Artillery piece visible. It is particularly troubling that many of these units seem en route towards France's borders with her neighbours. Especially the renewed escalation of forces in and around the Tours area towards which are destined two Artillery pieces and where the neighbouring Salamanca-Montellano line of sonar buoys detected a lurk French Sub...

To have such a large and powerful force in the field must indicate that France truly has the most productive and efficient mills the World has yet seen because even now Battleships are beyond the grasp of the Spanish navy due to their huge expense and the fact that we have no need for such overt instruments of war!

Spain therefore humbly asks that our 'tooled up' neighbour moves his submarine east of the Salamanca-Montellano line as the waters to the west are thick with Spanish trade routes. Obviously a move towards these would be seen as a move to threaten or disrupt these which Spain cannot allow to happen - appropriate action would be taken.

Message to the Inca

This is now the third successive cycle that Spain has questioned the Inca need to remain at 'On Alert' status. All other nations have now resumed peaceful stances and the Spanish people grow uneasy as they remember the sequence of events that led up to the Australian attack on Spanish territory.

While we do not believe that this is the intention of the Inca, if we do not see a lessening in the military readiness of Incan forces in the very near future Spain will feel reluctantly obliged to return her stance to 'On Alert' too...

Message to the Welsh

Spain hopes that King Constantine will heed the calls of all the other nations of the World and call off this needless attack.

We call upon your mercy in ending the violence that has torn this World asunder for so long!

Message to the Greeks

Just so that you don't get left out great Xenophon, the Spanish have almost always enjoyed cordial relations with the Greeks and hope that it may long continue. Indeed we were wondering whether you could share your modern science of the tossing of chicken entrails into the air to determine levels of pollution?

Perhaps it is our lack of this technology that is preventing us from determining the true nature of the pollution output caused by Spain? Indeed our coastal territory of California is even now complaining of an energy crisis and our environment minister, G W Arbusto has called for the building of 1900 more fossil fuelled power stations across the empire!

When told the 'Denial' joke he was heard to comment "Where's Egypt?"

As you can see, convincing certain government ministers about the effects of Global Warming is not going to be easy...

"We shall not proceed to unnecessary military actions further more. Tamworth has been annihilated! The Austalians do not exist as an independed nation anymore. The last Aussies has been sent to Sydney and Melbourne to find new homes and new jobs to enjoy a higher level of life never before enjoyed under the rule of Braker Morant. The last troops in action are now on their way to their camps. Wounded soldiers will be sent to hospitals for treatment and sent to home afterwords.

The Australian terrorists have been arrested and convicted to death by the Welsh authorities for their crimes against the Wales.
A nuclear device did detected in Tamworth. Furtunately although the terrorists tried to fired it they didn't knew the proper procedure and peoples' lives were saved! Welsh scientists observed the device and they found it extremely complicated. But some knowledge from its study aquired and we expect some day not far away to have the full knowledge of nuclear power. The device will be send to its owner, the Greeks.

In a raid into the last terrorist post the Welsh officers came across to an unexpected event. Braker Morant! All though that he had died during the world war but... he is alive and brutal as always. He took as a hostage a little child and he blackmailed us that he would assassinate it if we would try to arrest him. But a brave young hero from a small suburb of Cardiff, pooled him back and arrested him by himself. He will be decorated with the Welsh Cross of Bravery. Braker Morant has been sent to the high security prison of Cartigan and will be trialed for his crimes against the mankind."

Turn 145 --> Comrade Thor

It is with great sadness that we discover the hamlet of Tamworth has disappeared from the face of the Earth. That friendly little town actually expressed love for the Greek people with an endearing "heart" sign! All of Greece wishes the Tamworthians happiness, in whatever place they may find themselves now.

As for the thermonuclear device, it does not belong to us! Only the plutonium with which it was made came from Greece. But we will accept responsibility for it's defusing and destruction. Such dangerous things cannot be allowed to fall into the wrong hands again. King Constantine, please have your men transport it to us posthaste, but with great care!

Tomas de Torquemada, the technology of which you speak is as much an art as a science. But the basic premise is learnable by any who would devote himself to long hours of study. What must be ascertained is on which side the entrails land. If right-side-up, pollution is diminishing. If upside-down, it is increasing. Sadly, in spite of our best efforts, entrails devoted to Greece have landed upside-down again. Our last hope remains the discovery of Conservation.

St Jon, we would answer your fears with a simple solution. In Greek mythology, there were written stories about a people known as the Dutch, who built "dykes" to hold back the seas. Should it come to pass that the oceans did rise a few inches, then set against them your biggest French dykes to contain the floodwaters! Thus, no people need to lose lives or property. The best ideas are often the simplest, eh?

And King Thor, wherefore art thou?

Beloved Tomas, That which you witness is nothing more sinister than Troop Rotation. Whilst it was agreed that there would not be any increase in Troop numbers upon our border, and there has not been, it was never agreed that France should not replace Ancient Units as and when they became due for decomission. Tours in particular is an exposed outpost and in need of the best that France can give for it's protection.

As for the presence of a French Submersible it must be remembered that without it's deployment we would never have discovered the pre-existant station of your own such craft! As for the dangers of commerce raiding, this is quite ludicrous when we both have Trade Routes actually running through eachother's Cities! France has never given any cause for Spain to doubt her good faith and must recognise that, alone of all nations, she has remained 'At Peace' throughout.

Blessings,

The Spanish people have become unusually suspicious of our Republic. Does Spain, the super power, think that Inca keep their 'on aleart' status because of her? Is incan military even a threat to them?

The Incan Republic and Spain have always had cordial relations, then how come Spain is so suspicious of our military status? Has your all powerful Global Sattelite network picked up any Incan troop movements? No. Has there been any increase in the number of troops on the Incan Spanish front? no. Then why must they feel so intimidated, when even the Greeks, who share an enormous unarmed border with our nation, have not felt the slightest concern over our military spending?

Nevertheless, military spending has been cut to a fraction of its current size, and the military has officially been ordered to assume peace time levels.

----

In other news, the theory of the Director of the Incan Environmental Protection agency has been seriously called into question by several organizations. There is a mounting body evidence that there will be no great catastrophe and that there is no clear link between pollution and global warming.
It seems that the trend of global warming is a natural cycle that the Earth goes through, and pollution has little to do with it.

Turn to Keygen yesterday (twice)

St Jon, the Spanish sub is merely on station to protect Spain's inner sea economic zone and was ordered to 'shadow' the French sub...

It's role is merely protectionist and as such it will not venture forth out of Spanish waters or beyond the Salamanca-Montellano sonar array.

Both nations do indeed have trade routes running through each other's cities, however none of this is in the same order of magnitude as the sheer volume of commence passing through this aquatic corridor!

We cannot have some foreign sub meandering through major shipping lines willy nilly with the potential of accidental collisions and disruptions that may bring. Spain has set out her operating standards regarding this economic zone and cannot therefore guarantee the safety of any foreign vessels within these waters...

King Thor, we are no more suspicious over the Inca military readiness than we would be any other nation and welcome greatly your move to bring your forces to a peacetime level in line with the rest of the World - we feel certain that you had no ulterior motives!

There are other inhabitants in this world besides you that they care for the environment and do not wish natural disasters to occur in their lands.

But it seems that Incans' first priority is to increase their production output by any cost ignoring the other nations' efforts to decrease their pollution."

"The Welsh think we are changing our policy due to our own greed to maximize production, sir" , Minister Chitoucouan was one of the Chairman's many advisors.

After chuckling to himself for a while, Chairman Thor spoke without looking up from the report, "Perhaps we should show them just how much of our true productive capacity we have been holding back."

"But Sir, Is that wise? even with the new scientific findings, there are still quite a few health problems associated with the pollutants"

"I know that Chitoucouan, however, we must prove to our neighbours that the Incan Republic is not playing games and genuinely does put a cap on its pollution. Right now they think that the only reason we have such low pollution is beccause we do not have many industries."

"With all due respect sir, I think they already know that. That is why they keep asking us to lower pollution."

"No. They do not. They think of us as an underdeveloped polluting nation. That is why countries with 10 times our pollution demand that we lower ours first. Let us operate at maximum capacity and show them the amount of pollution we would churn out if we ran at that level from the beginning. Then in a few turns we will lower production levels and reinstitute the caps to bring everything to a normal level. After that, we will claim that we have done the world a favour, just like the Spaniards are doing now."

"But sir..."

"No buts! .. Begin the work necessary. From midnight today, there will be no productions caps. Lets show them what the true might of our proud nation."

I have it in my heart to forgive the Welsh for their heartless murder of thousands of civilians, long after the genuine campaign against 'Morant' was over, as I am certain that King Constantine will show suitable pennance for his sin.

I am deeply concerned by the tone adopted by my most precious 'brother' Tomas. It might almost be thought that Spain hankered after renewed conflict, but this time against her long standing friend and neightbour!

No thought of danger emanating from France can have disturbed the Chancellory so why, I ask, all the anti-French rhetoric?

France is, was and always will be, a Pacificist Nation dedicated to the promulgation Love and Peace throughout, and despite, a warlike World.

As for the Inca assertion that they might, 'teach us all a lesson' by showing just 'how bad' their Pollution might be:

I hope that I do not stand alone in condemning such a callous and destructive tactic. Please, my brothers and sisters, join with me in declaring such an act of careless neglect illegal!

Dear Brother Jon,

Spain in no way seeks to cause a disagreement between our great nations. Rather, we seek to make certain that no misunderstanding is allowed to cloud our respective judgements...

We feel certain that our French neighbours will agree to our terms in much the same way we hope that our other neighbours the Greeks will respect their territorial waters by moving their submarine back from whence it came...

To this end, Spain has gifted her Globe Sat images to all nations of the World - let them all see what Spain sees!

Indeed, there are some interesting images to be seen, and Spain feels that she cannot hide knowledge about another nation from those nations that it might affect...

My esteemed friend, Tomas de Torquemada,

Greece subscribes to Maritime Law, which finds that a deep ocean channel far from land, such as the one our respective submarines now occupy, are in international waters, and as such, are free for all to sail, providing no city limit has been breached. Therefore, we continue to invoke our right to travel these waters. Feel free to enjoy the same rights.

But while we are on the subject of territorial waters, we now make a formal protest regarding your placing of sonar buoys inside the shore waters of Greece. In fact, one sits inside the city limits of the Greek city of Ouzo, where it is impeding local fishing vessels. We feel that such actions put a strain on our relations as friendly neighbours. Please be advised that should these buoys become an obstacle to maritime navigation, they will be removed by Navy Seals.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Having made a Herculean effort to lower pollution, and having still seen no visible slowdown in the international pollution output, Greece feels it has now been proven that we play no role in this problem. Furthermore, we cannot tolerate the massive unemployment that our efforts have created in our homeland. Therefore, the fires of production are once again being stoked in Greece, with the goal of full employment throughout our country.

We ask that the true guilty parties of this world stop hiding behind an innocent facade, and immediately begin to stop all production which leads to pollution.

The Incan Republic has no complaint against who ever it is that is churning out so much pollution. However, we recommend that they not release so much into the air, it does cause all sorts of health problems amongst our population.

Apart from that, I do not see why Pollution is even an issue anymore. Perhaps it is these bureaucrats who have nothing better to do than spread panic amongst people. I do not blame them really, they need to show themselves to be useful at something or the other... how else would they justify feeding their fat bellies with the finest Caviar and champagne at the expense of the people.

That is all this raucus on pollution is about; something to help the bureaucrats look useful and important. The truth is, this whole story about the apocalypse as a result of people driving their cars is nothing but a myth. If it is not, then I would like to see some facts. To date, there has been no scientifically sound evidence that can show pollution will cause any harm to the environment in the long run.

Xenophon of the Greeks,

If you were to tell the whole truth regarding the new settlement of Ouzo, you would have also mentioned that this settlement was only erected this cycle - therefore they were hardly the territorial waters you claim them to be when the buoy was first built...

As for the matter of the territorial waters that Spain claims, Spanish ships were plying these ancient waterways for thousands of years before the first Greek city was even build upon it's shores!

There is no destination for the Greek submarine to be journeying to, for this is an inland sea...

Indeed Spain doubts very much indeed whether the only other occupants of this water, namely the French, would welcome a ship of war to their shores.

Consequently, Spain thinks that, if the Greeks will excuse the pun, the Greek arguments frankly hold no water whatsoever...

Spain therefore asks the Greeks to patrol their side of the sea, just as we will patrol ours - indeed we consider a line running NW from Guadalajara to the local waters of Santiago di Compostela to be a more than fair arrangement.

To show our goodwill in this, we even offer to dismantle the offending sonar buoy voluntarily once we have an agreement.

Out of Turn.

Beloved Neighbour, Forgive me for I had assumed that the Submarine in question was far away and a purely Graeco-Spanish matter but in the light of your latest information France 100% endorses your sentiments.

France likewise has a substantial volume of Trade carried over this Sea and no military vessel, flying under any flag, would be welcomed in Sovereign French waters and passage North through Spanish waters will only take you into these.

"This is outrageous!

How corrupt and hypocrite can St Jon be? Behind his blessings and "saintly" words are well hidden his careful designed practices of backstabbing and the total absence of respect to the territory of his fellow nations.

The French city of "Le Palais" was founded today two tiles away from the Welsh city of "Llangollen" in an island within a pure Welsh bay in the heart of Wales, hundreds of miles away from France, literally under our nose as near to 10 Welsh coastal cities are located in that bay!

I give one turn to the French to disband that city before I declare war!

In other news I congratulate the Greeks on the impressive reduction of their pollution, similar to the earlier attempt of the Spanish who have returned to the old, high levels of pollution."

Turn 148 --> Comrade Thor

Senor Torquemada,

It appears you have water on the brain! So let us respond:

While Ouzo may be a new city, the waters within her borders have been Greek for eons, as you well know. It is disingenuous of you to try and imply that merely because the city itself is new that Greece has had no long-standing claims on the region, both on land and at sea. We stand by our statement, and are gratified that you have recognized its legitimacy by your intention to remove the wayward buoy.

Regarding your contention that the deep-water regions where our respective submariners have come into contact belong solely to Spain:

It goes against the known laws of the sea to insist that these waters should be owned by one nation. This claim would raise no dispute with us if you were speaking of shallow coastal waters. But you are speaking of waters that are immense in size. It would take years for any ship to travel from Santiago di Compostela to Guadalajara! To claim that all the waters between belongs to Spain takes cojones!

In spite of this, we are willing to accept your suggestion that we divide up this sea, with a diagonal sea-border from Santiago di Compostela to Guadalajara. However, if we accept your proposal, we will expect to see no Spanish military vessel pass this new border into Greek waters. This means no Spanish ship may cross out of the city limits of Santa Maria Vittoria until it reaches Santiago di Compostela , and only then may it head out to sea along the diagonal line you have described.

And should a military vessel of any nation cross into Greek waters across that diagonal line, Greece will feel free to bring hostile fire upon said vessel without warning. That is the price you must be willing to pay if you wish to carve up this sea between us. Is that cost worth it to you?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you to both King Constantine and St Jon for your kind acknowledgements of Greece's efforts in reducing pollutants! Regretfully, we have had a setback this period. But we fully expect to be back on track before our next statement!

Turn to Madrid.

Beloved Children,

I am deeply concerned to see that, once again, pollution has worsened considerably. I beg that you all look at the list of worst offending Cities and note that France has not one in the bottom ten and but three in the 'Low Thirty Hall of Shame' with none even reaching three figures! Most astonishing, and disgraceful, of all is to see that a primitive tribal people such as the Inca should hold the 'Crown of Filth' with the Pit that they have named Pucara. Abolish your heretic Communist ways and develop a written language so that you might read 'The Gospel of St Jon' rather than be misguided by the atheistic filth bespoken in Das Kapital!

As for the litany of lies coming from Cardiff, I say this unto the World. France is a wholly pacifist nation unpossessed of an army but she will not bow to threats! My Flock have had to deal with Barbarians in the past and can do likewise with any other. Had any ill intent been held would but a single group of pilgrims been despatched, to an unoccupied island, but rather a fleet of warships and a force under arms? King Constantine must surely realise that whilst France has no will for conflict Wales has no ability to prevail, should one be provoked! If forced I will, with sorrow in my heart, instruct my disciples to take up arms and defend themselves unto the very streets of Cardiff. Cheap victories over an already defeated, by others, Australia may have given you cause for an inflated estimation of Welsh military prowess but I would remind you that in France you face an entirely different prospect. I suggest that you think long and hard upon this matter for where do you hope to find other than perdition for yourself and suffering for your tribesmen from such an act of criminal folly?

Love unto All,
St Jon, Sanity amidst Madness.

"I had announced earlier that the Wales would follow the way of peace after the fall of Braker Morant unless provoked by another nation.

This is a situation of provocation by another nation!

That area has been inhabited by the Welsh for ages.
The Welsh city of Llangollen was founded many decades ago, before my rise in the throne of Wales. Your city has been built in an island one tile away from the continent, within Llangollen's radius. Not to mention that this island was planned to be settled soon. Maybe your insane logic prompts you to consider logically and fair to build cities hundreds of miles away from home and within the radius of another nation's city but we here in Wales respect each other's cities!

A pair of fighters has been sent to the area with specific orders. If they find the French city of Le Palais standing there they will attack.

And let me inform you that the Wales poses one of the strongest armies in the world and due to your distance from the area you will not be able to sufficiently support an invasion army in the contrary with me..."
