A new cpoulos-que topic: most influential Spanish person ever? Put an end to popups!

Ok, I see the forum is not as active as it used to be so I wanna contribute to give it more traffic...

And yet are we back to the old Spanish history question: who is (in your opinion) the most influential (note that I didn't write "important", Waku) Spanish person ever?

I won't post my own guess, because I don't even have an ultimate opinion on the matter, so I'll wait for what the others have to say...

Most influental, eh?

A lot to choose from, but whom had the most impact?

I'll have to think about it somemore.

So Fiera, isn't it El Gran Capitan?

Tough question. I don't think you can choose only one. Why don't we pick one per century, era or something?

LOL

I've been trying to think of a person really influential, someone who, somehow, is still alive among us, I think this person could be GOYA.

He's the only one I know everybody has heard of. Columbus wasn't a Spaniard if I'm not mistaken...?

Technically not but to all other effects...yes. Same as Magellan I guess.

Believe it or not, many people I 've met think Picasso was French.

Well, after much thinking here is my #1 pick: Queen Isabella

I know this will surprise you but... Support Apolyton

What if we think about an "spiritual" influence? What about San Ignacio de Loyola (St. Ignatius Loyola) or San Francisco Javier?

Maybe they aren't that famous today, but they have had a great influence over millions of people.

To ignore anything related to hispanic countries seems to be a part of the anglo-saxon culture. As it has recently been proved.

I already gave one name for the XV century. Here is my nominee for the XVI century: Miguel de Cervantes.

What are you guys waiting for to post your nominees?

Suffering from ads?

Shall we do it according to a centuries division? Why not nominate the most influential Spanish for each field of human knowledge and culture?

As in:

Most influential in Mil History (we already have El Gran Capitán)
Most influential in Arts.
Most influential in Literature.
Most influential in Politics.
Most influential in Religion.
Etc.

What do you guys think?

We could do both, couldn't we? We coud pick candidates in all cathegories/centuries and then vote. Does that sound meaningful to you guys?

Maybe that would be too tiresome. Why not three bigger time cathegories:

1. Ancient / Middle Ages
2. Golden Age (15th, 16th and 17th centuries)
3. Contemporary

With the four "sinchronic" cathegories, that would make 12 nominates for poster. Shall we do it this way?

(Jesús, siento andar siempre poniendo pegas a tus proposiciones en esta tnhread, no es nada personal, eh?)

Put an end to popups!

Okay, make a definitive list of most infuential in.... and I think we could start from there. We'd need like ten (?) cathegories or so.

What about 15th and 16th Century together, and have the 17th Century as a separate cathegory (Lope, Quevedo, Calderón, Góngora, Velázquez, Gracián, etc...)?
