Very nice, EC. I fear I won't be able to contribute much, seeing as I have a sufficient broadband connection to purge my caches quite often and be unimpaired (in normal circumstances that is), but I do have all my news posts and a good idea of pretty much everything else I've done.
Thus, I cast my support behind the idea of picking up where we left off - I have Sweden pretty much railroaded now, and returning to 2008 would just lead to doing all the same stuff again, which would, to but it bluntly, be boring. Not that I would quit, and I might actually have some things to change (you know that Twilight Zone scenario of going back to change the wrong decisions of the past  ), but if it comes down to a vote, I'd like us to continue from where we left off. Maybe a day or two of freezing to "catch up", repost old stuff and re-create those few threads that have not been saved, and then we would be back on. Mix in some goodwill and understanding in not requiring posted evidence of everything we claim to have done, and it can be very smooth indeed. IMHO a vastly better solution than one and a half months of instant replay.

OK- I've got most of the threads that were posted in in the last 2 days, with a few exceptions. Along with Nap I think we've got a lot of what we lost back, including the recent important events. Nations whose newsthreads I didn't get are: NPCs, USA*, CSA, Germany, China (PRC or CRC), Japan, Sweden, Netherlands, Norway, Israel, Eritrea, India, Pakistan, Philippines, Brazil, Russia, Kazakhstan. This is not a comprehensive list, so if in doubt, save it. Those marked with a * I know to be backed up with word documents.
I'd also like to say that I think that going back in time is a bad idea, and someting I don't want to do. I've also received word from Taz who says he probably wouldn't play on if we have to go back.

WV, calm down. I'm sure when the forums go back up, there will be a flood of posting, as everyone has had a couple of days to hatch new schemes. School is starting and winter shall soon set in, prompting more posting.
Besides, I too have a couple of "big plans" that I don't want to go down the tubes.

My daughter is doing fine, thank you for asking. Thank you everyone else for your well wishes on the forums as well, btw; I didn't get to thank you there. We took her in for tests on Friday, and we'll know exactly what she has -- if it's serious or not, what prescriptions she'll need, etc -- by the end of the week.
Because of that, I left the forum temporarily. However, even if we do not start back in 2008, my newsthread is lost and I never bothered to back any of the vital newsposts up... thus, I haven't any time left to keep on with DotW III. As per Wally's request, I will remain on as official "Wise Old Man"(which will become my new title when we all re-register) to come to for advice, but I won't be able to continue posting for the Philippines. Once again, apologies to you guys; I hate leaving in the middle of an forum down. Has to be done though...

Hey, if you folks can paste together the missing 200 or so threads from your caches, you'll be doing us all a huge favor. I wasn't too keen on the rewind idea myself, but it's still a better solution than repairing what we could from memory. Too many gaps and quarrels would emerge.
Coug told me our last backed-up thread was 1084, and he also believes that we were around 1250 when we crashed (I think we were closer to 1300).
If we can manage to gather together, say 80% or more of the lost threads, I'd gladly go forward with them over rewinding. Co-ordinate efforts with EC (who seemingly volunteered himself for the task) and e-mail me and Coug with a list of whatchoo end up with.
As for when we'll return, I'm still waiting for Coug to pop up wth the latest update.
