Comp problem: Lost my cd rom drives. Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

I did something dumb and now my comp refuses to recognize that it has any cd rom drives. Can anyone offer any help?

I reinstalled windows 98. The process froze up halfway through and I had to push that little reset button. I've tried downloading the drivers from MS but apparentely the drivers are there already and working. There are some problems with the primary and secondary IDE controllers and I'm assuming this is the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi PW:

Do you have the original manufacturer's drivers for the CD? If not, do you know the manufacturer's name. If you do, perhaps you can get on the internet and download the appropriate driver for your CD. The last item which may help, but it doesn't sound like from reading your message is that if its a "Plug and Play" unit, windows should automatically install a driver which may be of help.

Otherwise, I am not sure what you need to do?

Any luck with your CDs??? Man, what a bummer when crap like that happens. I had to reinstruct the hard drive about a month ago. It was a real frustrating as don't even have an idea why it would boot. Talk to you later and let us know your situation. Thanks.

Much as I hate to say it, I'm withdrawing from the game. I've delayed this for a week. I have had a great deal of fun playing with you all and I do intend to be back just as soon as I find out what happened to my CD-ROM drivers.

I don't think I'm going to get the drives back online in a timely manner. My apologies on taking so many days to reply. I'm sure I'll figure out a fix and be back looking for a new game before long I'm sure.

I do have the drivers, just not sure where they are. I'm thinking I will reinstall windows 98. That partial install definately messed something up.

Thanks for sticking with me this long. I really don't want to go with tech support but if that's what I have to do then I will.
