Wow, how many Poles are there in Apolyton! I confess I did not expect it! I just wanted to say that the Poles were the civ I placed instead of the Sioux in Civ2. That goes on to show that some of us are well aware of the historical importance of Poland.

PS. The one other customized tribe I had in Civ2 was the Dutch. I wonder what Rib would think about it

"Were"? Are you actually implying that there was a moment in history when we stopped being unstopable ?

Jay Bee: I'm really glad to hear that. Poland is one of the most underrated nations in the world, and I highly appreciate the fact that there are people like you who have broken through the stereotype.

Thanks for support JayBee

As for the Polish ruler, if we are going to make Poles Scientific and Religious, than I guess Queen Jadwiga would be the best choice.

I mean, she founded (reinstated) the University of Krakow and was declared a saint. Fits like a glove

BTW, as a side note, I wonder whether any of you guys (not only Poles, heaven forbid) would be interested in playing an on-line historical RPG/strategy game, we are having on the EU forum (Paradox, not Apolyton). If you are, PM me; I will give you details.

now seriosly thank you
and hey historical importence isn't everthing! everyone know that in Poland are most nice girls

Okay maybe we should chose leader, spec. unit capitol etc.
so we can send it to Firaxis [or maybe they will see it here ].

So I think leaeder should be male.

Of course you do not have to oneself agree with this opinion, We can discuss that issue more of course.

spec unit - now this is obvious , husars

capitol: Krakow or Gniezno , my vote is for Gniezno, the firs capitol:*)

Now what do you think?

Great leaders are not only military leaders. In ancient ages, yes. But now? For example Ghandi. "GL" can be religious leaders, or those who increase power of a civilization during peace time.

BTW, who would you consider more "worthy" to posses the status of a Great Leader, if Poland would find its way to the Civ3 expansion: Sikorski, or Berling?

LoD

I know what you mean. I think they both were patriots, but the first one tried to find help in Western Europe countries, the second in Russians. I don't know them so well to decide which one is "better". Now we know what happened after the WW2. They couldn't know. Anyway I won't call them "Great Leaders", because they didn't manage to change the history.

Great idea! Poles ARE scientific nad religious! And Queen Jadwiga as a GL fits perfectly.
Just as one reminded recently, Polish woman are famous because of their beauty.

But I meant Jadwiga not as a great leader, but as a ruler (like Joan of Arc for France or Hammurabi for Babilonians).

My mistake. I thought ruler and written GL.
Ruler: Queen Jadwiga
GLs: Sobieski, Czarnecki, Zawisza Czarny, Anders, Pu³aski, Sikorski, Koœciuszko, Pi³sudzki, Bem, Chodkiewicz, Rydz-Smigly and many many more (especially Polish kings who can be both rulers and GLs)

Special unit: Rudy 102 (Janek + Gustlik + Grigorij + Olgierd + Szarik)

I must confess I'm not really impressed about having Poland on the expansion pact (if there will be any). You're all discussing what leader the Polish should have, but you didn't say whether they are expansionist, religious, etc. Nor the Polish special unit!

Good luck!

Zealot, read carefully this thread.

BTW, had we Portugese in the game, they would't be expansionist, religious, etc. but they would obviously stick to saudades approach .

Poles do not share saudades feeling, as we went through the Golden Age what we miss is our Civ in the Expansion Pack.

Poland is some puny country in Eastern Europe, which was never powerful and who's only inventions are kielbasa and pierogies

Hm, kielbasa is a common sausage. Pirogis are also Russian. This leaves you only as 'puny country in EE'

LaRusso: You're right about the pierogies - they generally indigenous to the entire region, but I was reffering to a popular stereotype. And you won't find any good sort of real kielbasa (kielbasasort ?) outside of Central/Eastern Europe, I assure you .

Geez. The popularity of this totally unhistoric rumours is staggering.

As a matter of fact, one communist guy made a SYMBOLIC film to show how the pre-war anti-communist democracy was lousy, and he put in the scene of Polish cavalry charging at tanks. For some reason that scene rose to represent the Polish WWII field tactics, which is simply untrue.

I repeat: Polish cavalry was NOT charging tanks in WWII.

sorry, i read that in a dutch history of the ww2. one of the best books (3 volumes) ever written on the topic.
poland is a great nation, but i do not feel that it is 'The Civ' like e.g. Spain or Arabs. I really do not want to hurt anyone's feelings. The fact that you survived between Germans and Russians speaks for itself
