Whales could have many roles. Ambergris is extracted from whales which is used as a base for very expensive perfumes, whalebones can also be used for sculpting and various stuff I can't remember. And the fat and meat can be eaten of course.

I found the second one in a better resolution.
It looks like a big pepsi-can.

It was on a German screen named 25-25-2225.jpg (I don't know where that screen come from)

I'll update the list later, but I've found proof for deer or whatever they are named to be a bonus resource (not Luxury, nor Strategic resource). The Thebes CityScreen (civilization3_src23.jpg form BonusWeb) in combination with a mapscreen from the same year of the same area (civilization3_src22.jpg form BonusWeb). Shows a deer connected to road not inside the borders that don't appear as a resource in the city.

I've updated the list once more.

deer has been moved to the prime sources section for the reason I gave before
fish and whales are now also located up there as you can't build roads on water, and the other resources need roads.
Uranium has got a picture and the "Pepsi can" has been added.

Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

This is the image of a paper Harlan sent me.
It is from the beginning from the Baltimore Screen which mean that it is a very early image from a constructed screen, that only is of low value for info.

(I post this as Harlan asked me for it)

Are you sure that image of the can isn't alluminum?

I thought that alluminum was in the game as a resource.

The can would most likely be made out of aluminum, so why not. They represent somethings whit what you can make of them.

I'll add that as an option in the next update.

Thanks, but as it is right now: most work wore used in the pre-thread work (when I was looking at every single sequence at frame-level of the MakingCiv3.avi and fount that rubber-civilopedia-page and decided to do something out of it.)
Even that getting all the attached images up at the right way in the first post was kind of a longtime work too.

I don't think this is an aluminium resource, just because I can't think of what it would be used for. I suppose it could be used for aircraft, but still, the air transporter didn't require aluminium to build, so I think it is porcelain/pot which is a luxury commodity, or it may well be aluminium, but as a bonus resource...

The "donuts" are definitely rubber. How else are you gonna picture rubber but with tires? Rubber trees don't look much different from any other trees.

Man, it would be really sweet if aluminum is a resource. Up until this point, that was the most important strategic resource IMHO Civ3 was missing.

In response to Provost's question, what good would is aluminum, it is very useful. My aviaton knowledge focuses on the WW2 era, and I can say that at least for that era, aluminum was the most important resource for building all types of airplanes. Much more important than rubber for tires, since you need so much more of it. AFAIK, its still very key today.

So that would be a welcome sign that Firaxis knows what they're doing.

The list is updated again. Let's focus on finding what all resources effects are as that hasn't been discussed mush.

I've changed the list to a table format. The layout will be improved until next update, but till then you will have to live with it as is

No, how many happy faces you get depends on the number of different luxury resources you have, not on which specific ones you have. So diamonds and silk actually have the same value.

Just a thought.

Could that white stuff which has been labelled saltpeter actually be nitrates?

Nitrates could be needed for artillery type units and for agricultural improvements, if there are such things.

It could just be salt, of course, but salt doesn't seem very luxurious compared to the other luxuries.

Erm, saltpetre is potassium nitrate actually. Until the Haber process was discovered they also used guano to gain nitrate and ammonia essential in the source of explosives. But saltpetre is the major component in manufacturing gunpowder, the other components, charcoal and sulphur are much more easily attainable.

I am sure it isn't a luxury as well, as I have seen a screenshot where the 'mystery white powder' has been listed under resources.
