Ming, some tips:

When you delete a thread, you should contact the person's thread you deleted and tell them WHY it was deleted. You can't expect people to change unless you provide them with reasons and ways to change their behavior.

You should be less of an arrogant a<b></b>sshole, it doesn't bode well with your old-man image nor that of the site.

I'm beginning to think you just like having a little power and flexing it over people you don't like or agree with.

For that reason, you are both rude and fascist.

It was a small thread entitled "So who won the pool?" stating that I did come back, and people can post all of their stupid little comments about it isolated inside that thread instead of threadjacking others after I had posted in them.

There was no offensive language, no pornography, no insults, nothing to warrant a deletion.

Generally, topics about yourself which contain no real information or ideas are deleted or locked as a matter of course. At least that's the impression I get.

Longstanding members have advantages in this regard over newer or less respected ones, because the mods assume people want to hear about the everyday troubles of long-standing members. It also helps that none of these guys got in digs at their opponents in un-ending flame wars (i.e., no "I know posterX will do Y as he always does, the *******" and so on posts) - topics that exist to continue endless flame wars are also often deleted - think of it like UN peacekeeping missions to stop endless ethnic conflicts in the Balkans.

it's unfair, but really, who gives a damn? they probably don't like you, so they might close your threads more often then they mght close ones written by their friends. still, it's an internet forum, and no matter who is right, you shouldn't care too much about it - life goes on.

he obviously takes the stance that it's his section of the site, and he can do what he wants with it. abusive of power? maybe. is he within his rights? in every way. although, to be technical ming (assuming his orginal post wasn't anything more than advertised), he's got a point - why not impose a lockdown on all the other questionable threads? "Happy Birthdays" can come up three or four times every week - surely that's spam?

can't we just look at the top of the screen when we log on? and can't anyone with half a brain 'convey information' in one 'useful' way or another? I can see where you're coming from, but it's a flawed arguement.

IMO glonk you should let it go. An 'I'm Back' thread shouldn't matter much, no matter what you think of the 'poly staff.

i'm newer than asher and my whole life is all over the boards. lol. my very first post was a long rant and essay about it and never got closed until months and months later. is it possible that ming is using his admin rights unfairly? (just asking, ming..not accusing. )

Is there a way that only MLeonard or MtG can moderate my threads? Ming obviously has some bias.

People had already replied to that thread, and they weren't just spammy replies, they were relevant replies to the topic. So obviously, some people found it to be not-spammy.

And who's to say that I didn't need the support from friends in the thread? Hell, maybe that's why I returned?

Mods - there is a point to be made here. There are tons of personal threads on the OT, people reaching out for help with this or that, support from friends. Asher left upset and it seems he's back upset. Not upset as in mad, upset as in feeling down.

There's a bit of a double standard in place if some people's personal threads are closed and others are left open.

I personally have never had more than a minor disagreement with Ming, so I don't have anything against the guy...but I don't think Asher's thread deserved to be closed.
