Okay, using Resource Hacker, I made the Add and Delete button visible. Guess what - They Work!
Not sure if this will actually work for gameplay but go ahead and give it a try. Here is the link. Maybe we can now add Era, Advances, Units, etc.
Of course, please be sure to backup your original first!!!!
**UPDATED to version 1.11**
Civ3Edit.exe
***Woohoo*******************
This hacked version is no longer needed with the developers latest release. So I will be removing it from my site. This link will no longer work.

Clearly, this functionality was needed during the creation of the game. However, we did not feel it received adequate testing to make it available in the released version of the game. In addition, in yesterday's chat I made mention of some graphical glitches that were discovered that make it difficult to modify some of the art and thus support for additional art was not implemented in the editor. Without the ability to add art, the ability to add units, for example, is pointless, so I disabled the feature temporarily. I did not, however, remove the functionality completely as I intend to fix these limitations. Be aware, though, that some of the items were never intended to have add/delete support and are only in there for development purposes. In other words, use these hacks at your own risk.

Mike, will this fix be released as a free patch or as part of a commercial expansion pack?

And, also to the same point, what sort of a time frame are we talking here (best guess)? Days? Weeks? Months (shudder)?

I just tried to add things to the official game, and it didn't work. So it only works with mods then?

The best evidence yet that the poor programmers were rushed by greedy producers !!!!!! He knew it was broke and would need fixing... But they released it anyway !!!!

Hey what I really need is to be able to add units to the map or CIV SPECIFC start locations to the map. You know if you can find that?
Great job on finding the add button, I was going to make the Spainish Malis and Incas, and a few other civs and I was thinking I would have to get rid of some old civs but now I can start making new civs. This is very cool!!!!!

The "greedy" producers are the ones who pay the "poor" programmers, and like your parents probably told you, money doesn't grow on trees - it comes from selling products. The editor just isn't an essential part of the product - as much as some of us may make use of it, 90% of the people purchasing the game will probably never do anything with it, so fixing it after release is a reasonable thing to do.

In order to get an arrow to connect your new tech to its prerequisite/s you have to actually edit the background of the science advisor screen.
Go to the art/advisor/ directory, you will find four pcx files corresponding to the for eras (science_ancient.pcx, science_industrial.pcx, etc.)
So, in your case, backup the science_modern.pcx file, then open your favorite graphics editor and modify the arrows to suit your purpose.
I am not a 100 percent sure this is the only way you can do it, but that was how I did it for my little homemade mod.
Hope this will help.

I downloaded your file to my zip drive where it now resides. It is neat. I need help with the following: How do I make it part of the regular Civ 3 edit program? Thanks in advance.
