I like to have key information on paper rather than have to go to various screens to look it up. CivStats is a Microsoft Excel 2000/Excel 97 file containing data taken from the rules file (civ3mod.bic). Version 1.0 contains:
- Enhanced tech tree
- Terrain and resource data
- Unit stats
- Improvement/Wonder stats
Version 1.00 was downloaded 1937 times.
New version 1.16 adds:
- Updated to match the 1st patch (Civ 3 version 1.16f)
- Unit Tree - Unit stats in Tech Tree format
- Civ and Government stats
- Information on how the game calculates various things
Version 1.16 was downloaded 970 times.
New version 1.17 adds:
- Updated to match the 2nd patch (Civ 3 version 1.17f)
- List of hotkeys
- "Rules" section now includes a table of years per turn
Version 1.17 was downloaded 126 times.
New version 1.17.2 adds:
- Changed to match the updated version of the 1.17f patch that Firaxis released on 15 Feb. The only difference from the 14 Feb version of the patch is that Barbarians are restricted to Warriers, Horsemen and Galleys (the 14 Feb version allowed all units to barbarians, which resulted in advanced units being found in goody huts.
- Added arrows to Unit Tree to show upgrade patch to civ unique units.
Version 1.17.2 was downloaded 277 times.
New version 1.21 adds:
- Changed to match the 3rd patch (Civ 3 version 1.21f)
- Moved some units in the Unit Tree to better show their place in the tech tree.
- Corrected calculation of City Centre Tile production.
(The forum won't let me attach the updated file here. I've attached it to a reply I posted to this thread. Please use this link to download the new version.

just one small thing - the borders and gridlines for the terrain section are messed up when i print it, even though it looks fine on the screen, anyone else experiencing this? |
That section uses the "Fit to page" option in File|Page Setup in order to get the whole table on one page. I sometimes have problems using that option with lots of gridlines on the page (although this one prints OK for me). You might try making the three columns on the left narrower (width 4.00 - 29 pixels does it for me) and change File|Print Setup to say "Adjust to 100% of normal size". See if that fixes it.

I hope I'm not missing the blatantly obvious but on the units tabin the "Cost" column there are subcategories of Shld/Pop. Pop means how many population points is deducted from the city upon completion but I can't figure out what the Shld (shield) sub-column means. I can't figure out what the correlation is. Anyone?

Well Done.
As an excellent base level description of the Civ III rules and weightings.
And because there is no Rules.txt that we can use this could become a great intermediate descriptor / documentation aid for Modpacks (what changes made where , which extra techs, units added where etc.)
I'll certainly be using it (with due credits of course).

Thanks everybody. I'm glad you find the tables useful.

The number in the "Cost|Shld" column is a measure of the shields required to produce the unit, but you have to multiply by 10 to get the actual number of shields. I realise that is rather misleading, but that is the number used in the BIC file.

Great job, nero! One question: what does 'turn to attack' mean in the unit stats? Does this just mean that the unit turns during the attack animation (e.g. caravel turning to fire its cannons broadside)? Just wondering why this is important.

I edited the first post to include version 1.16 of the file. It matches the 1.16 patch and adds some new tables.

Some questions. In the file (Rules-sheet), you write:
"Each content face makes 1 unhappy citizen content."
???
City is in Civil Disorder if there are more unhappy citizens than happy ones. For each turn in Civil Disorder, there is a 20% chance of riots.
Shouldn´t this read ...For each turn after the first of Civil Disorder...
Also, you could make the rule about retreats a bit more complete by adding that a fast unit with 1 HP left will not retreat if the defender also has only 1 HP.

I'm note sure exactly what you're questioning, so I'll try a general explanation of what I meant. If I've missed the point, please let me know.
Buildings with a happiness effect, and military police give "content faces" (the things that look like happy faces, but are orange and without the big smile) to your city. The effect of a "content face" is to change one unhappy citizen into a content citizen. If there are no unhappy citizens, there is no benefit.

I wasn't aware of either of these rules Thanks for pointing them out, I'll include them in the next update. Is your "no riots in the first turn of civil disorder" rule based on observation, or has Firaxis said that it works that way (or did I miss it in the manual)?

Zorkk: Thanks. I'll try to include a list of hotkeys next time I update the file.
bassman: I can't find a problem with the file, I just downloaded it and unziped it (with WinZip 8.0) without a problem. Have you tried downloading it again in case the download got corrupted?

Hi Nero,
First of all I'd like to say that your first CivStats file was absolutely indispensible, as it allowed me to more easily put together an edited copy including all my mod suggestions (especially the tech tree).
I am, however, having the exact same problem as bassman in trying to download your new version. Could you please send an unzipped copy to my e-mail address which is marcus.hicks@adl.clw.csiro.au. Thankyou.
Yours,
