Hey, I think many of the newbies flooding this forum are missing Horse's very important point here - that there is an enourmous amount of useful info, strats, helps, stories, cheats and the like, each on their respective boards. When you start new threads on topics already under discussion in an on-going thread, you wind up pushing the good, solid information posted by the 'authorities' (i.e. the "Old Timers") to the back pages- making the search for the best, most reliable info much more difficult.
Cybershy- I never even thought about the DL connection, but on further reflection HAH! That certainly would explain 80-90% of 'em! (I'm clearly a newbie by my post stats and login date, but hell, it seems to be pretty difficult to do this by accident IMHO). - Now watch me dbl post this time
GP is so correct to say that for all of the people who are new to these boards - not necessarily those new to civ - should seriously see how far the State of the Art in Civin' has come - go and check the CivII Strategy board! Seriously DO IT Now!DO IT Now!
The most important element in gleaning the 'right' info is to familiarize yourself with the source. Go to the CivII and SMAC boards and decide for yourself who the 'genuine' sources are (many of them are still on the boards, and haven't yet switched over to III yet). Information is generally only as good as its source.
I really should qualify my own statements (at least based on the above). Until I came here about two years ago, I played CivII at Prince with success, after I found this excellent source of information (IMO overall the best source by far), I now play with great success at Deity, though I have yet to master OCC - I like to play a more traditional 'loosely' Perfectionist strategy
Also, it should be noted that I am waiting to get CivIII until it is patched-especially the editor, mostly because I'll have to upgrade my old monitor to fully enjoy the new incarnation, and I am terribly jealous of all of you who already have it in their grubby little paws
Peace and Respect to all you old timers- and some love to the newbies.

don't confuse posting rank with new people. I've been coming here for a long time for my civ-information-fix and only recently has my rank gone up....

I think most of the people on here, who were complaining about newbies were, um... kidding . Except maybe the first post, which made a valid point (this fourm would be more useful if everyone posted everything in the right places), I think when it got to the general slam-a-newbie everyone was joaking. I hope they were, anyway, since that's what it sounded like to me , and it's a pretty stupid thing to complain about if they weren't (we all were once), so...

No, not -- quite . The Bar Mitzvah is the comming of age (when you turn 13). Induction to the church, you're an adult now, whoopie, etc. For future reference, though, Bar Mitzvah's tend to be very long and very boring (to someone who's in the audience, anyway ).

Most of you guys who ***** about the newbies haven't ever posted a decent thread, at least nothing educational, informative, or interesting. I usually don't even bother with threads that I know are asking for flames, but I think this is getting a little silly. |
Perhaps you are not looking close enough- you certainly have NOT CONTRIBUITED ANYTHING TO THIS BOARD- please don't complain if you are worse than people who post here and try to help, or try to have fun.
(Oh yes, and P.S. AH likes to get people angry at him- he likes to troll )

I'm sure a majority of the people buying shirts from Apolyton are newbies and not you el cheapos who *refuse* to shell out 40 bucks for a decent strat game. Your newbies are the lifeblood of this website. |
Yes, probably- Civ III is annoying, who wants to upgrade to a pentium III- I for one am not going to upgrade for 1 game!

If new people stopped joining and posting, this forum would degrade even more than it has in the last year; as it would consist of the usual ship of fools who are content with polishing each other's knobs.

Probably- but you yourself is not helping this- you never registered "until you had to" and yet you claim you are better than everyone- okay, here is an oldies question- who was the third person to register on the boards... I will accept 2 answers, either may be correct.
