why should OBL record such a video?
and leave it in a house in Djalalabad?
why should some guys park a car with do-it-yourself-manuals for hijacking a plane, in arabic, next to the airport?
most importantly: why doesn't the US government seek the responsible but seeks to prove their scapegoat is the one everyone's looking for?

"Sulayman ((Abu Guaith)): I was sitting with the Shaykh in a room, then I left to go to another room where there was a TV set. The TV broadcasted the big event. The scene was showing an Egyptian family sitting in their living room, they exploded with joy. Do you know when there is a soccer game and your team wins, it was the same expression of joy. There was a subtitle that read: “In revenge for the children of Al Aqsa’, Usama Bin Ladin executes an operation against America.” So I went back to the Shaykh (meaning UBL) who was sitting in a room with 50 to 60 people. I tried to tell him about what I saw, but he made gesture with his hands, meaning: “I know, I know…”
....
"UBL: The brothers, who conducted the operation, all they knew was that they have a martyrdom operation and we asked each of them to go to America but they didn’t know anything about the operation, not even one letter. But they were trained and we did not reveal the operation to them until they are there and just before they boarded the planes."

Are you saying it's not possible that one of his stooges is so afraid for his life that he would turn this tape over to save his worthless hide?
Are you saying that the terrorists were so highly trained that they would not possibly make a mistake like this?
Are you saying that OBL is NOT responsible? If you have some proof, the US goverment would love to hear from you.

From what I gather from you response, you are saying that a video isn't enough proof. Is that right? If someone showed a video of your wife/girlfriend having sex with another man, and she was screaming and/or gasping words in a language you didn't understand, would you need more proof, or would you do something about it?

Well, I have no idea who did it, but Americans seem to make it very easy. The only proof that was ever published is that video, bu OBL might as well use the public opinion and make it all up now, without knowing himself who really did it. You know, as in receiving support from other extremists.
I doubt the US did it, they won't let thousands of their people jump über the klinge...
And then OBL seems to be responsible for the embassy bombings, so there would be a connection... but no proof.
And in the end, I don't care for final proof. I want to be safe, and if the US (and their allies) manage to secure the people not only in the US but also in Europe and the rest of the world, then their efforts were helpful and sensible. But whether we'r really safer after this thing, we will see. Now look into Siro's thread, OBL might be totally safe... he has lost a majority of his resources, but his will and money is still there...

If you say so, but I have a feeling that a lot of extremists are going to disappear into the woodwork once the Afganistan phase is over. I doubt many counties will want to keep them within their borders, also. Unless they want their entire infrastructure destroyed in an hour, that is.
I am not in agreement with some of those saying he will never be caught. He will slip up, and we'll be there to grab him.

Ok, you started to flame nations, so will I do now
Is it the typical American way of debating, just inventing something and accuse the opponent of using it as an argument?
If so, poor country. But the country is not poor, so you are the exact opposite of what you think you are. You think you're such a great American, but you're a shame for your country and the ideals that make the whole spirit about it.

well where is obl? (btw, why isnt no one writing UBL ? )
Have you all seen the part where that one sheik says "It's such a clean place here, and in a safe location, etc etc".
I was under the impression afghanistan country side and towns were overran by opposition forces. And even if this was videotaped a few months ago (can't be that many) most of afghanistan has been bombed continuously. Unless the civilian areas are truly safe and untouched by bombs. Or maybe that was one of osama's underground complexes.
Speaking about conspiracy theories, didnt you think that last sheik was kinda odd? It was almost as if he was sucking up to obl, trying to make him (obl) confess and gloat over the WTC. Like a set-up.
And what about that weird sound the person who was videotapping made. As if nervous or whatever...
And how in the world could they of had made a very precise translation. I could barely make out any of the arabic, and most of it was undiscernable/inaudible.

Well, Ecthelion, I would ask a bit of leeway for Americans. We are still as mad as hornets, and this video only fuels the fire. Big time. I hope you can understand that.

I saw a 90 second excerpt of some video w/ subtitles, where a guy who bore some vague resemblance to the image of bin Laden I've seen in the news the past few years was speaking in nearly inaudible whispers in a language I did not understand. This guy had dark skin and hair, long beard, etc. According to the subtitles, this guy seemed to be trying to impress some off-camera audience [drinking buddies maybe?] by falsly claiming to have trained people to fly hijacked aircraft into the WTC. An obvious hoax. Must have been trying to yank Dubya's chain - probably for his daddy's [and other US administrations] interference in middle eastern affairs.
Not to worry, though. The Bush administration has already made it clear that bin Laden is to be blamed for 9/11 anyway, so no 'smoking gun' evidence is necesary.
The audio portion is essentially so garbled as to be inaddmissable in any reasonable facsimile of an open court proceeding with rules of evidence. That's aside from the lack of credulity that any evidence tracking chain would naturally bring along with it.
------------
"Can't you do something to restore the audio?"
"No, but I can boost the jingoism signal gain."
"Ahhh. Much better. I can hear that frikkin' murderer very clearly now."

never mind, faded glory, the last phrase in your post should suffice for anyone who follows this thread to realize who the narrow-minded oen is...
Caligastia, my point was that all are so fixed on OBL despite there are so many others who might be guitly just as well...
Of course, if you think about it, it seems sensible, because the US government surely knows the danger just as well, so they should know what they're doing, but since there's no publicly shown proof, it is hard to trust. And I have a hard time trusting in another country's government, even trusting in my own's..
