I am far beyond steam in research and have just built three city’s on another continent to acquire iron for my railroad, the source city isn’t on the water so I build another city nearby that was, and built a harbor. I have them connected and there is no blockade or even enemy territory blocking the shipping lanes, but I cannot build rail! It’s driving me nutz! I even built airports in both the source and my capitol cities but still no go on railroads.
I think it may be some bug because I can build swordsmen and the iron shows up in all my city resource boxes. It may be because I didn’t acquire iron until very late in the game. I built around it because I wanted to secure my continent before incurring on my neighbors. I’m sure I can get through the game without having rails but it means keeping 40 workers running around trying to keep up with pollution. With rails I could cut that number by ¾.
If anyone has a solution I would appreciate a reply, I got a lotta time in on this map and would hate to have to start over.
Thanks,

hi ,
some people say that when a civ has a trade embarge against you and somewhere between the ports there is a ship of those nations , then it does not go either , .......however , this is just talk , no proof seen yet, ...
what you can do is to put ship's between the 2 hsrbors , so that the squares light up , every so many you shall need a ship , ....
also , try with an airport , one to the capital , one for the resource , .....
have a nice day

Thanks Panag,
I already have airports and clear shipping lanes. I created another city at another spot closer to the main continent built a harbor too but nothing. Like I said it seems to be a game bug, cuz i have iron in all my city resource boxes, and although I know that cleopatra has iron to spare it doesn't show up as a tradeable resourse. ( I could have before I secured my own supply but she wanted my first born and all my money, don't ya just love her in her little bonnet?)
BTW my neighbors love/envy me so I don't think they would embargo me, but if they did I would simply crush them sooner (and they know it)

Ok here it is, The iron is at seattle 2.
The boats are in the harbor but you can space them out enough to clear the path. I tried pilliaging the roads and existing rail, (it was a egyptian colony) I got the saltpeter in all the resourse boxes from the city to the north east but still no iron.
Appreciate the help. panag, but I think it's hopeless.

No bug.
You need coal. Thats what I expected to see. You must have coal AND iron for railroads. The French have coal right between Marseille2 and Cherbourg2. Rome has it for trade.
Go to war with France or trade with Rome.

I turned the music off also. It worked for me. I find that I often have to turn it of, on, then off again. Thats what I did with his save.
Might be bug that it won't go off the first try. It might just be a buffer that has to be emptied though. Sometimes it goes off if I wait.

Thank you gentlemen, I thought that little black snot in the resourse was coal, but i never realized I needed coal as well as iron for RR. I guess you learn something new everyday. I was hoping to wait for wat till I had rail but looks like I gotta go now. I'll probably go with a mpp with greece, and france, Cleo has made a hole where the greek country used to be so as soon as she attacks him again Ill be at war. I think Caesar had a mpp with her.
Will be a shame to have to attack her, I'm pretty sure shes been flirting with me
Again thanks,

I've looked through the FAQ and this bug list and haven't found this problem I'm experiencing:
Usually, when you complete moving the selected unit, the game jumps to the next active unit so you can give it orders, and so on. In every game I play, there comes a point where it will not jump to the next active unit; the current unit remains selected with the animated white selection circle around it, *none* of the hotkey functions work, and I have to use the mouse to both select the next unit I want to move and to end the turn. I find that if I quit and restart, the game works fine for a while, but the problem inevitably reoccurs. It may happen after I've begun giving units drag-click move orders. In any case, it's incredibly annoying, and I'm surprised no one else has found this. I don't know how it could be system-specific...
Thanks...

Sorry --
Windows 98 SE, AMD K6-2 450 w/ 312 megs of RAM, Nvidia GeForce 2 video card, Creative AWE64 Soundblaster card... anything I'm missingl? I don't know a whole lot about hardware and such, so I'm never sure what exactly constitutes my "specs."

Have you patched the game yet? I have heard of this. You are not the only one to run into it. I think you allready have figured out the workaround. Click on a unit.

Just for the heck of it you might upgrade your drivers. Mouse driver included if you don't have a generic cheapie.
I think there is an end turn hotkey that helps with this. I don't recall having the problem a lot myself. I am pretty sure it happened a few times though. I am using Windows XP myself.
The K6-2 is known to have some incompatibilities with a lot of games depending on the chipset used but I haven't heard of any problems related to it and Civ III.

P2 450 Mhz with 128MB ram, nVidia G Force 2 with 32MB 52X CDROM? Logitech wheelmouse.
I have the same problem but for me it only seems to happen near the 'end game'. I reported it a while back and have yet to hear anything, that was almost a month ago now

I ran into a very strange bug last night, and I didn't see anywhere to submit it on the civ3 website, so I figured this would be the best place to post it. Anyways, it's 2001 AD, I'm playing as the French in a Monarch game. I'm at the end of the tech tree, at war with most of the world due to nuclear strikes. All of my 40 or so workers are automated. But during the workers move phase of my turn, a few of them tried to go to my cities to sleep. As they did so, my mech infantry engaged them. The workers HP didn't show up, but the mech infantry fired 3 times, and they died. And I got exp for it, I got 4 of my infantries to elite [no GL though ]. Anyways, I've never seen anything like this, and yes, I am patched. I was playing anouther game before this, and in the year 2030, the game would crash at the end of that turn, no matter what I did. So if someone can tell me why my infantry killed my workers, I'd really appriciate it.

You have discovered the work around. I am pretty sure that all pr at least most of the cases I have seen reported involved Mechanized Infantry. Might have been some others but those are mentioned most. Usually a nuke has used as well.
Reloading does take care of it. The bug has been reported all along but since reloading works around it, giving Firaxis a save to show them the bug is just a touch difficult.

I just found something else. I'm the Babylonians, at war with the Germans. I bombarded one of their improvements with my battleship. It swiveled AWAY from the target, pointed its guns out to sea, fired, and destroyed the improvement which was behind it. Now, this has only happened once, but I thought it was quite an irregularity. Maybe they just got confused.
Edit: It happened again the next turn. I am firing east of me, and the guns are pointing west. It doesn't seem to happen to any other units.

You are not supposed to give away your secret weapons! It is the top secret Babylonian battleship fired, rocket assisted, 15 inch projectiles.
