It was not "brits" it was lord elgin who visited Greece for fun and took a fancy at them...

and he didn't steal them he bought them from the turks during the occupation (which is stealing - it was not with greek consent)

But thier natural place is in the upper part of Parthenon. To reconstitute the Parthenon as it originally was, is something that I think many of the Brits would like too if they were asked. After all it is not only, greek, it is a universal structure. It and what it stands for belongs to the world not only Greece.

The british museum has plenty of ancient greek artifacts. But the marbles of Parthenon should be returned to their rightful place, artistic, culture and architecture wise if nothing else.

It's been a fun weather here in Finland... Around Christmas and the holiday period the frost sometimes climbed down to -30 C, though it usually was bearable between -20 and -30. Then one night it just jumped all the way to zero and even higher. Last night it came from zero and is now -18... Really fun weather.

Update on the snow front:

The snow began iceing and melting in the night, but light snowfall covered the old snow with a fresh layer. But not it is snowing steadily for the last 2.5 hours and if this does on until dusk (in 2-3 hours) then we are up for a 3rd snowy day. Went out for a walk - it's more slippery today and my footsteps made a crunchy noise, because of the ice beneath. Went to see my car and I cleared 15 cm of snow off it. I unblocked the windowcleaners from the ice and left them in an erect position, like I saw others do. All the air vents are blocked and I wonder how much thawing the car needs to get going properly. I would appreciate any practical advice on the subject, since I'm totally inexperienced with snow+cars. The worst thing about the car is that I parked it obout 200m up the hill (I live in the slope of a rather big hill), on a steep slope, where no car can move without snow gear right now; if I had found a spot in front of my house or somewhere below, I could circulate with no chains on, since the avenues are clear of ice. Not that i want to go anywhere, but tomorrow I'll need the car.

paiktis22: As for Simitis, his approval rating is high now and the blizzard has acted in favor of him rather than against him; the airport is open, the trains are on-time, the state-machine seems to be coping well. If something doesn't seem to work well in Simitistan (f.e. Olympic Airways, the Public Electricity Company, the water company) it gives him an excuse to privatize it.

The one who's struck most by the blizzard is probably Archbishop Christodoulos, since today is a big christian holiday but nobody seems to care. Plus he wasn't invited in Piraeus, along with the other officials, by Kallinikos; and that hurts him.

He needed Greek consent for what reason, exactly? All he needed to remove the artifacts from the country was the consent of the government of that territory, whoever that maybe, which he recieved.

I have to attend to a lab excercise Tuesday at 20:00. Let's hope that they let us know if they cancel it.

NTUA campus is at the foot of Ymittos mountain and the weather there is a tad harsher than say in Zografou. There must be alot of snow over there right now, since I doubt anyone cleared it. The only thing working over there right now must be the NOC (network operating center), since they are my ISP and I got connected to the internet.
