JohnT. I don't know if we are overegagerating in our reaction. (did you get that feeling from reading our jokes here or from american media? Luckily the state machine worked fine)

We are over excited by the fact of having a snow white Athens. For us Athenians it is something very rare

Ok everybody expected "a little snow", but there are some city suburbs where the snow has reached 1m and the people are stranded there since Thursday. 100 km north of the city, the snow has reached 2m.

Well, it seems that I'm frustrated because I had noone to go out and play with me in the snow.

30s Fahrenheit. Cold.

It's frigging warm here. About -5C About 10cm snow on the ground. If winter was always like this I wouldn't want to move to Tahiti.

Naw, what got me to laughing was the following quote on page 1:

"Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis told reporters it was the worst weather in 40 years and asked citizens to take care and limit their travel.

``I would like to call on all citizens to be careful and limit their movements. This is an unusual phenomenon and beautiful to watch but also dangerous,'' he said."

I guess this is big news to you guys, huh?

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

It made me laugh too That's why I posted it. It's like we are 2 year olds or something. "beautiful but dangerous phanomenon" Thank you Mr. prime minister for your amazing insight and priceless advice

that's why I called him papaschtrumph. You know the little blue people, the cartoon from Belgium?

All these info is from yahoo, so that it is in english and you can understand it. In greek media the story is much different. I doubt anyone remembered that very phrase of Simitis amongst the other things he has said (which were place specific though).

But as it was underlined in the english news agency it made me laugh very much

I think they are called "smurf"'s in English. "Smølf" in Danish.

Yes, and as he is short, always smiles and is kind (in his own way) I sometimes call him Papasmurf (strumf whatever). Others call him Chinese (because of his height and his kind of yellow face color!!!)

Weather update:

7 dead from the cold in Turkey. One in Poland.

In Athens the snow has mostly gone away

The snow is melting too slowly for my taste. And I must have picked the worst spot in the neigbourhood to park my car, where the sun doesn't shine, the graders don't pass and the snow doesn't melt.
