All while Tony Blair talks with India and smiles for the camera, yet again. We're out there dying, the brits/aussies/etc ain't doing anything. NOTHING.

Look at that, and tell me something isn't wrong. Father of two children, devoted soldier fighting for something his country had to do alone. We were promised aid, but it only came in the financial and political forms. I'd go so far now to declare Britain, Germany, France, Australia, and Canada rouge and rogue nations at this point that are much more concerned about their own selves and well-being than America's current and dangerous situation.
Really, if Britain hadn't fired off those ten cruise missiles with our initial wave, and they got hit by a terrorist strike just days later (which at the time was highly likely), it'd look awful in the public eye to suddenly join the fight and claim to be sticking up for us at the same time. Their early "assistance" was for show - they were scared for themselves alone. And now an innocent man is dead for it. For Blair's politics...for his own courage.
I'm not attacking british people personally or anything, but you have to admit: someone screwed up, and it's your government. The government you essentially elected.
"We are so proud that he had grown into such a wonderful son, who was a proud father, loving husband, and devoted to serving his country," said a statement from Chapman's parents. "He loved the Army and referred to his unit as his second family. He loved what he was doing, and he was willing to do whatever he had to do," his father said. "He was a wonderful son, and we're going to miss him."
Let me know when a British troop dies that sort of horrible death. It'll never happen. But NONE of you will ever realize that. Makes me sick, to see these good people die for the world and get no appreciation or respect out of the international community for it. I wouldn't be so upset if some of you brits would at least come to realize just who's risking themselves for your well being - us, the Americans. Doing the dirty work.

That's SO insulting to say that, you know. Dammit, would that little extra training you somehow pulled out of a sagging budget and no leadership be able to hold off a deadly small arms ambush out of the blue, by any chance? Again, it's obvious that we've got a much larger amount of guys in the region than the others in the coalition combined. All in the stats. |
You've also got a much larger military, much more to lose, and a public that's deeply affected by it all. The other countries don't.
quote: Any link for that bold little claim, by any chance? Just curious. |
Link1, regarding 700 Canadian troops leaving for Afghanistan.
Link2, regarding the overall contribution (including Navy and air).
Link3, Canadian commandos
etc

Doesn't shake the fact that you made a promise. Btw, you're VERY wrong to say other countries have nothing to lose here. If Britain had been attacked prior to their launching of a few cruise missiles, Blair would have hell to pay. The Aussies had an election ten days before Howard sent dozens of ships, planes, troops, etc to the region. And the combined military of Canada, Australia, Germany, etc is actually worthwhile against the Taliban.

That basically says you sent troops/ships. Big deal. They obviously haven't been used, though, as we've lost around 10 people and the entire alliance hasn't even lost one. Why didn't your government demand its forces were requested to be more active in Afghanistan? Surely it is a matter or international importance and safety? Same goes for Britain, the Aussies, etc.

The reason WHY the US was attacked was its blind support for Israel, among other things. Don't kid yourself here, Bin Laden isn't against "the west" as he's against the American abusive foreign policy.

Precisely. Now see if you can name which country coordinates everything and tells people what to use where? That's right, America. You've had our resources at your disposal, and chosen not to use them, then you troll about how we're useless for not doing anything.

So now you're pinning this on the other countries, when clearly it's America who chose not to use them?
Are you saying it's been ineffective how this operation has been run, anyway? Seems to work fine.

Yeah he is, he calls all non-muslims infidels, shithead. And while I hate Israel, Bin Laden is just using it as an excuse, you know that.
Wiglaf, I may not agree with you on everything, but I'll support you if you ever want to claim that Canadians are a bunch of complacent, arrogant, uninformed government brainwashed priicks...especially Asher. I live in Canada (Ottawa), I know (about Canadians, not necessarily Asher).
Asher, by the way, what town in the US did you live in? Probably some medium sized all white one in Northern California, then you compare it to Calgary, you priick.

I should rephrase to make it more clear: He's not against the west AS MUCH as he's against America. As long as America is still there, I very much doubt he'd attack anyone else.

Don't you dare judge all Canadians by the "eastern bums and creeps" in Ottawa and whatnot. Alberta is VERY much different than the rest of Canada, ask any Canadian.

Several towns, in Northern California. A suburb of Oakland (hardly all white), and a (very white) town that's basically a place for Bell and Chevron employees only.
