There's certain kind of people that bring out the worst in me, and unnecessary cruelty to animals is one of them. If they'd been really hungry and had eaten the dogs, it wouldn't have been that bad. The other kinds include such nice groups like violent paedophiles, any kind of violent sexual offender, people who kill for fun or because the target is a certain race/religion/sexuality etc.

Where as my first emotional response would be completely over the top (about this particular case I was thinking about either hanging them using razorwire, or disembowelling them and having dogs eat their entrails will the perps are still alive).

However after cooling down a bit, i think that some serious therapy might be in order for the perps. Followed by forced sterilisation (my weapon of choice against all violent offenders) so their genetic flaws are not passed down.

Well, there are plenty examples of stuff like this. Boshko told me over ICQ one time one person he met at Fordham took this kid's cat and put him in another part of the city. Later he saw the cat again looking hungry and he laughed. In Britain, a couple of 10-13 year olds(Don't remember exact ages) beat a very young kid (about six) to death. Just shows the evil in human nature.

I read about this case, it was enough to really turn my stomach, a nasty piece of work. There are some sick kids out there. But what is even more sick is that these kinds of kids are doing this kind of thing to fellow human beings! Check out the following article, and related articles within the story:

Provost, yep, people do horrible things to other people as well, and this case showed some of it. The whole strangling of the dog was to pyschologically injure the boy. The poor kid, I mean, that dog was around for almost all of his life, and he probably doesn't have a memory where that dog wasn't with his family. The dog was probably one of his best friends .

I do have major problems with the death penalty if/when the legal standards for trials, competency of defence, considering mitigating circumstances and the willingness of appellate courts to consider bona fide new evidence is in any way questionable.

However, when the guilty party is clearly proven guilty, given competent legal representation, and full opportunities for filing appeals and clemency requests, and the authorities are responsive to any conceivably valid issue raised in the appeals, I really don't sweat it much.

Even in major death penalty states, the "average" murder isn't likely to get you a death sentence - and in some states like California, most death cases (not that the state is serious about actually carrying out executions) involve truly heinous killings.
