A troll has to be with intent, often stating an opinion appears as being a troll when its not.

Saying "I think guns should be banned" is an acceptable opinion, but Texans and many other Americans will call it a troll - after all "Who can really want guns banned?"

A number of regular trolls are tainted so that even when they state a valid opinion they are ignored or dismissed as trolls.

I don't know who came up with it but it sounds a bit like the 1996(?) hit "Hit 'em high" by Monstars (or whatever they called themselves: Busta Rhymes, LL Cool J, Coolio et al), but without the music it's hard to tell... (I hope I'm not overstating the obvious here)

These days it some people (not necessarily from 'Poly) seem call anyone who disagrees with them a troll, if they can't defend themselves with proper arguments...

There's tons more, check the thread in the Civ3 General forum for a start.

How about 'threadjacking'? I think that's the only term mentioned so far that's not (necessarily) 'illegal', but it can still be annoying...
