Turn 215--> General Glorita
Wise King Constantine,
Greece wishes to avoid war with any nation. But we do wish that Spain did not continue to seek to create tensions through repeated incursions upon our borders.
Spanish Space Fighters trespassing over Greek cities now threaten all nations of the world with worsened pollution due to their repeated takeoffs.
And Spanish submarines threaten Greek sea engineers off to create what Spain referred to as "the safest city of your empire".
In the light of such actions, the least the Greek government can do is to prudently increase vigilance at our borders, while looking to our internal security with the placement of additional stealth units trained to detect any nefarious activity.
Athens can only hope that the announcement of these actions coupled with a strong warning against anymore trespassing will help ward off any tragic mistake by any foreign government(s). Any attack upon either Greek cities or the agents of Greece would necessitate the kind of horrific retaliation that until now has only existed in our nightmares!
Or to put it even more bluntly, ALL UNITS OF NON-GREEK NATIONS MUST STAY OUT OF GREECE UNLESS INVITED!!! To do otherwise will be considered an act of WAR!
In the interest of full disclosure, however, we must inform Spain that a Greek unit investigating more of these possible incursions HAS strayed a short distance into Spanish territory, but we give our word that they are merely moving through a corner of Spain, and expect to be out by next turn, so apologies are made. We offer this apology even though Spain has stated no policy objecting trespassing on her own soil, and perhaps has no objection to other nation's treading upon Spanish lands? But even if Spain has such policy, we wish to treat our neigbour as we wish to be treated, so no more such incidents will occur.
It is in this spirit of peacemaking that Athens temporarily holds off on any further action toward the 2 Inca Pikemen we referred to in our previous communiqué to General Glorita.
But no movement has been made by these units, and as they are next to an industrial area important to Greek production, our patience wears thin. Please move them IMEDIATELY to within Hobart city limits so that the issue can be resolved peacefully!

A General Pre emptive strike has been ordered against the Inca - now with their trouble with responding to global matters in a timely manner, it would seem an opportune moment to put them out of their misery...
Also, given the current tensions with the world's largest nation, Spain cannot have a proven thorn in her side - especially one that is reknowned for using nuclear weapons with it's spies!
Spain believes that Inca's frontline military strength has already been destroyed and will therefore be finished either next cycle, or the one after...
We ask that no other nation interfere with our legitimate action.

Consider all incursions of a military nature ended...
quote: Spanish Space Fighters trespassing over Greek cities now threaten all nations of the world with worsened pollution due to their repeated takeoffs. |
Pollution should no longer be a factor due to Spain's selfless construction of the Gaia Controller - how quickly the other nations forget our magnificent strides in ending pollution, and curtailing the nuclear threat...
quote: And Spanish submarines threaten Greek sea engineers off to create what Spain referred to as "the safest city of your empire". |
Spain is merely patrolling international waters - on the look out for renegade French or Incan units...

Given this latest statement and in the interests of maintaining the peace, certain 'monitoring' units are now returning to Spain - kindly eject them if you see them, they will stay within our borders from now on!

Interesting that Greece seeks to protect her borders so vociferously, when she in turn commits the same crimes? We trust therefore that our own units will be 'forgiven their trespasses' in return for our own understanding?
In the interests of fairness, Spain will from this point forward adopt the same policies for border control as Greece!

Don't worry, good Xenophon! As a token of our friendship we will take care of these units by taking all Inca's remaining cities and causing them to disband...

Turn 216--> General Glorita
Greece observes the Spanish war with Inca with grave concern, as fighting occurs close to her own cities. Several outdoor summer events have had to be cancelled near Naxos due to the danger of stray mortar fragments.
Of equal concern is the discovery of a major security breach in Greece! Attacks were made on high-security installations in 5 cities, and thefts were successful in 4 of these cities. Only plucky little Pylos was able to fend off the attackers.
Federal investigators are working closely with the Greek Intelligence Agency (GIA) to calculate the damage as well as determine how this could have been accomplished, and how recurrences can be prevented. That these attacks were made in backwater cities has been seen as no excuse.
And sources close to the GIA have acknowledged that the culprit was none other than...........Spain!
A young Hispanic woman (provocatively attired in hot-pants and go-go boots) was picked up by authorities after she was found wandering aimlessly near the compromised laboratory in Pylos. But she was soon found to be a Cyber-Ninja, employed by Madrid! Although she claimed to "be looking for a party", she soon confessed, and implicated the government of Tomas de Torquemada.
In light of the fact that Greece is no longer in a technology race, and that she cooperated so fully, it was decided to merely deport her to Playa de Las Americas, where she will no doubt head for the nearest beach party.
Still, let there be no doubt that the next intruder will not be treated so lightly!
In light of these attacks, Greece's internal security apparatus, which was already being upgraded has been further strengthened, and military units are being deployed to man checkpoints around many of our larger cities.
Meanwhile, true to her word, Greece has moved our before-mentioned Greek unit outside of Spanish borders where it will remain. Greece fully expects Spain to keep all units (stealth or otherwise) out of our lands, as she has promised.
In another technology-related catastrophe, Greek scientists have today unwittingly opened Pandora's Box!! The discovery of Alien archeology has mysteriously dismantled the famous Edison's Lab! Scientists arrived at work today to find the buildings no longer there!
Greece wishes to apologize in advance for an inconvenience that this discovery might create for other nations. When Greeks attempted to visit their favourite websites today, a message appears on their computers that the Internet also no longer exists. Reports that scores of of internet pornographers are filing for bankruptcy have reached our shores!
If there is any connection to the discovery of AA and the disappearance of the Internet, Greece apologizes to Wales, and promises to share much technology to compensate them.
Furthermore, Spain may also find adverse affects, as we have been advised that their Genome Project may also disappear. If this is true, may we offer the hand of neighbourly sympathy.
Finally, Greece today honoured their commitment to name the next undersea city Torquemadaville, in spite of Spanish misadventures. Greek undersea surveyors believe it to be the only site on our planet to have 2 volcanoes available to one city. The night-time eruptions are creating quite a spectacular light show for the enjoyment of Torquemadaville citizens.

Ya but now I get the feeling this is becoming a rivalry between me and Mobius. Its like gambling, he talks me into putting all my money and my Jacket on the table. After getting all worked up, he ended winng and took it all....now I feel like im walking home in the snow kicking an old beer can in a fading wet camoflauge shirt.
Bah..and to make matters worse I probably left my hat and scarf behind on the chair

Hadn't had the chance to notice that.
We played three deathmatches together which can't be a good criterion as all get warmonger sooner or later in such games, but only once in a standard game and he was quite peacefull there.

Turn 219 to Tomas de Torquemada
Greece joins the world in expressing appreciation to Faded Glory for standing at the helm of Inca!
But we mourn the loss of Thailand...just as we were about to call for an order of Pad Thai and Green Papaya Salad to be delivered to Troy, we find they are no more!
Our Sea Engineer send greetings to our friends in Wales, and urges their submarine to avoid our wake as we pass by!
On a more somber note, we are disappointed to find that the word of Tomas de Torquemada seems to mean so little. After promising to stay out of Greece, federal security forces discovered a Spanish lawyer and Cyber Ninja not only inside territorial Greece, but inside city limits as well.
Greece was merciful to the spy, and merely deported her, but as for the lawyer, we looked to the words of Shakespeare for advice! Luckily, there was a legal option, so a fragile peace is still maintained.
But Spain continues to act in an unseemly manner. A civilian Greek Sea Engineer in International waters was bullied by Spanish military thugs, and forced to return home. This is not the action of a civilized nation!
And a Spanish Destroyer lurks menacingly inside the city limits of the very underwater city that was named to strengthen a bond of friendship that we hoped existed between our peoples.
Greece is generously working to increase the entire world's scientific knowledge, so we continue to try to ignore these provocations, and hope that Spain will not push us Too Far!

Well, not to speak bad about those, that are no more among us (as players, that is). Ok, Then I do as you really want me to do :
But about King Thor.
I was able to beat the guts out of him in the DC game just before Klair, Slamp and Don killed me and St. Jon and Fraser (in the very same turn).
One more of his carat on the capitalistic dogs side (not pointed at Blackice this time, he took over the last nation, the Germans (as far as I remembered), former ruled by Ed (the most peaceloving player I have ever seen))... hey where was I?? - ehh.. Blackice! No not him. Let'me'see: King Thor. Yes there I was - and yet..... No. if only Slamp or Don had been a Klair-puppet also, then St. Jon, Frazer and I would have won. And that's for sure.
And we would not have had any problems getting Klair off as no. One in the rakings.
I have never played with another player as St. Jon. A master of manipulating. Oh, I enjoyed it, though I knew he was taking me along the road down to hell.
BTW: I accepted to be rated as no 6/7/8(!) of 8 players from the start (take that)! The english (me), the Vikings (Frazer) and the germans (Ed/Blackice) "fought" to be last.

Finally Spain has joined the Alien Achaeology Race, after emerging from the collective national blindness to Wormholes that has blighted it these past two cycles!
All systems are go as the Spanish Republic enters a new phase!

Really? Which ones? I have so very many high-producing cities! |
Indeed, all potential high producing cities within the Greek Empire have been duly noted and their details passed on to the relative interested parties - actually a useful side-effect from having to scour space in such a systematic manner lately. Some interesting troop formations there...
quote: But Tomas, since you're astronauts are not up to the task of finding the Wormhole, Greek NASA has been kind enough to provide these images from space of it's last known location as of this turn. If this map is still not sufficient, we are informed that it is now directly east of Thebes...3 squares to be exact. |
Thanks for the heads up, as if to really rub it in the Wormhole appeared instantly on our monitors as our operatives signed onto their day's shift!
quote: Now perhaps you will repay this act of neighbourliness by refraining from harrasing my poor unarmed sea engineers! |
That all depends on whether Greek Sea Engineers refrain from trespassing on the 'Greater Spanish Oceanic Rift'...
quote: But even as 10 Greek cities celebrate (probably over just having built the alien fetus), a strange thing has happened. greece has been plunged into Anarchy! How this could have happened is a mystery to us, but we are not pleased! |
Greece has been building a lot of cities lately - perhaps this number has finally exceeded the administrative capabilities of Greece's bureaucrats and pen pushers?
quote: But if any nation should be low enough to think of taking advantage of this game bug, they should note that even in a state of Anarchy, Greek production remains formidable, and our military are still on high alert!
Xenophon |
Of course - that would indeed be a terrible thing to do...
We will remain vigilant, but we doubt that the Welsh would consider mounting such a dastardly attack!

Actually, Spain was able to boot the Sea Engineer because in the spirit of International Peace, Greece had sent her settlers as a purely civilian mission. We did not expect a warlike response from Spain! |
Nothing warlike about escorting obviously lost and distressed Greek units to the nearest friendly home city...
quote: For such actions would seem pointless now that Greek futurists have reported that Spain shall not have time to enjoy any cities that might be founded on this "rift of disagreement"! It appears that one way or another, a conclusion to all our cosmic questions will soon be at hand. |
Spain is of the opinion that Greece should not count it's alien embryos just yet - there's no telling what might happen between now and then...
quote: Sadly, Greece is still in this bizarre and unasked for state of Anarchy. Considering that Greece has been careful to remain below the threshold mark for the number of cities we maintain, and judging by the numerous celebrations we have been experiencing due to our very high happiness levels, this is can only be the result of a game bug. Luckily, it is only a minor annoyance...
Xenophon |
Spain hopes for a swift resolution in this matter - given that some Greek hothead might take advantage of this anarchy and cause an international incident...
Spain thinks that perhaps we to were blighted by a similar bug when considering the 'invisible wormhole'.
Still, one must be philosophical!
Now, Spain must formally complain to the Welsh over the trespass of a sub of theirs into Spanish territory!
Normally such things are taken in our stride, but this time the sub has occupied an Advanced Fishery of a city with a very tight food situation indeed - this has put Katherine into deficit!
Move the Sub now or it will be sunk!
