Paiktis, once again, you are being a disgrace to all your compatriots.

Somebody blew up an electrical pylon. So what? Any wacko could have done this.

The Norwegians fought bravely in WW2 against the Germans like we did. They fought alone, with British support like we did. They had Quisling, we had Tsolakoglou. Their seamen fought around the globe against the Axis, just like ours did.

We have more in common with them than we think. We are both seafaring people. Our countries are nothing but mountains and sea. In the old days, young 14 year old lads from the fjords and shepherds from the mountains boarded ocean going ships and risked their lives to provide for their poor families, just as our boys did.

sniff... I'm just getting sentimental.

As far as whales are concerned, Onasis made half of his fortune whaling outside of Peru.

Hey Axi, you sure know a lot about Norway! Interesting comparison between the countries.

I have read some Greek history. Herodotus was nice especially when talking about the Persians, including the Magi tribe/priesthood/sorcerers. The endless warstories between Greece and Persia got a little tedious though.

Anyways a lot of the classics is Greek litterature:

http://classics.mit.edu/Browse/index.html

I'd like to read all/some of it except Homer I think. Of the Roman authors I'd like to read Cicero's speaches. He was the greatest speaker in antiquity. I have his boring letters - nothing but politics and intrigues.

Greek mythology though is boring to me. And all those city-state tyrant-stories and as mentioned, those endless wars with present day TURKEY.

Just to make the history section here complete I can mention that I'd like to read more classic Jewish history around the time of Jesus. The Jews have some great bible/history commentaries, but I can't find them on the net.

The Norwegian captain of the ship "The World" - the new luxury condo ship for really rich ppl, is a guy from inland Norway, from a mountain-village called Skjεk. He probably could have been a shepherd if he didn't go to sea.

BTW I'm afraid it's not so simple or care-free that incident.

It was a clear act of sabotage. Tell me how often electric pylars of ambicious projects get blown up?

As far as I remember (and I'm not counting pissed off locals next to airports or mining sites) this has hardly ever happened before.

It's anything from represals from the albanian mafia for the crackdown against them to politically motivated "warning signs" against the Greek - Turkish cooperation.

I doubt it was some Dodecathean followers Artemis lovin' wackos.

Of course the government plays it down. Like it does all things since it likes taking care of problems "under the table".

I thought that both Greeks and Turkish had mines layed out all over their borders
It is not matter of care. Minefields are there for defence reasons.
Greek-Turkish relations were always hostile so I do find a reason for mines to be there.

And here's a new concept for you: TROLL. Yes, they actually come from my country. It's part of our folklore.

You got something in your eye Wink wink. Sense of humor is also common at Apolyton. Too much feta cheese?

The rethors of Areopagus? Any recommendations?

I know that Paul was called a babbler by some Greeks, possibly Areopagans. Guess they felt he was "worse" than them:

RSV Acts 17:16-23
Now while Paul was waiting for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him as he saw that the city was full of idols. So he argued in the synagogue with the Jews and the devout persons, and in the market place every day with those who chanced to be there. Some also of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers met him. And some said, "What would this babbler say?" Others said, "He seems to be a preacher of foreign divinities" --because he preached Jesus and the resurrection. And they took hold of him and brought him to the Are-op'agus, saying, "May we know what this new teaching is which you present? For you bring some strange things to our ears; we wish to know therefore what these things mean." Now all the Athenians and the foreigners who lived there spent their time in nothing except telling or hearing something new. So Paul, standing in the middle of the Are-op'agus, said: "Men of Athens, I perceive that in every way you are very religious. For as I passed along, and observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription, 'To an unknown god.' What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you.

The border IS mined in some places. This has the sad effect of several donkeys owned by drug dealers to accidentally blow up. These people load the stuff on a donkey and send it alone across the border, since these animals can usually find their way home. They do not risk getting arrested that way by the border police. However sometimes they go a little out of the way and... kaboom!

This is also a hint on the extremely low price that marijuana has in Albania, since they don't mind losing a few loads by sending the animals alone across.

I think the Reformation is too late. It's claimed that Irish munks came here 600 AD. They seem to have gone allover early. But the first christian kings were around 1000 AD. And it took some time for them and others to clean up their act. It always does.

Macedonia is a historical, cultural, and geographic area of the Balkan Peninsula with varying opinions of its extent, in what is now northern Greece, Southern Skopji (FYROM), maybe extending into southeastern Albania and southwestern Bugaria. The Kingdom of Macedonia was formed and consolidated out of tribal villages by Alexander's granfather and father. There was a similar Kingdom of Epirus fromed in Albania in the same period. The population at that time was Greeks and Hellenized Illyrians & Thracians. It was a kingdom only for a short while before Alexander created his cosmopolitan Hellenized empire, which then broke up. Phillips capital (for only a short time, Alexander's) was Pella, which never became a significant size city. Thew population of the area has been very much mixed up in the 2300 years since then: Romans, Dacians, Vlachs, Goths, Turks, Serbs, Bulgars etc.
