Upcoming Elections Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

Since I'm about to leave on holiday and won't return until 01 April, I thought I'd start this thread on my way out the door. Following are the previous election results...

Position -- 4000 BC (February 2002) -- 975 BC (March 2002)

President -- Marquis de Sodaq -- Shaka Naldur
Vice-president -- Shaka Naldur -- MBloomIII

Science Advisor -- Gramphos -- Gramphos
Foreign Advisor -- adamsj -- adamsj
Millitary Advisor -- Shade -- Shade
Trade Advisor -- El Awrence -- El Awrence
City Planner -- kassiopeia -- kassiopeia
Imperial Expansion -- Frank Johnson -- Frank Johnson
Historian -- Albert B. -- Albert B.

Clearly, we need some fresh meat, er, blood among the leadership. In fact, IIRC our constitution had term limits precluding anyone from holding the same postion for more than 2 consecutive months. If true, this means an entirely new cabinet of advisors! Early nominations --

MBloomIII for President. He's done a fine job during the time since he inherited the job from Shaka, and deserves a full-term chance to continue his policies.

Based on post count, having strong opinions, and not being already in office, I nominate the following citizens for VP/Cabinet postions. (Let them speak for the posts they'd prefer - or avoid...)

Zealot
cavebear
Nemphis
steelehc
Hydey
MrWhereItsAt
ColdWizard

As for myself, I've foolishly volunteered to take over as Historian (and yet, have done no writing since posting to that effect). AlbertB, where are you?

*ColdWizard steps up to a podium*
Fellow citizens, esteemed government officials, lurkers, and members of the press, thanks for coming.

At this time, after taking into consideration the best interests of United Apolyton, i remove myself from contention of any office for the next election. my reasons for doing so are many, but i'm too lazy to list them. blah blah blah, yackity smackity, put some nice politician-speak here.

in conclusion, i ain't running, so don't bother electing me

(hint look it up again...was one of my proposals and went over 3/4 turns beeing in cabinet (no mather what job you did:allways the same or different) then at least one turn out before you could get in again...)

(btw the idea of nominating ppl like you did was also the original idea...but we kinda have never done this...I still suggest the ppl who want to get in to nominate themself(just to make sure we have someone who want's to do the job))

And while I'm here...Already made the allusion to go for president so
-->nominate myself as Next president.
*starts speach*
I think I did a nice job as military advisor, always made the best out of it and listened to the needs of our ppl, making sure they are safe.
I think it would be a nice end of the first part of my career to become president and lead our glorious empire to supreme domination...I feel like at the piek of my powers.
My goal stays the same safety and happiness for all who want it.
And I make one promis:"No other civilization will be able to look down at us when I lead our ppl to Glory. The only thing that will exceed their jealousy will be their fear."
My goals:
*expand our empire(double it's size)
*contain the Roman empire and use them for cash-production
*Happiness for all
*Creating the smartest minds in the world
*peace and security for all who want's it
*crush everything that tries to stop our glorious Empire from one of it's goals

The needs of the ppl are my needs

hmmm... Enter the AD-FREE zone

I won't run for president next month, I still would like to let others play the game for a while. However, I'll consider a cabinet position.

I hereby nominate myself for the post of City Planner. As the minister in charge of city production, I will:

  • Form a general build queue for our cities
  • micromanage production to optimize the wishes of the masses, and
  • ensure balance between the needs of various ministeries (trade, science, etc) while not compromising production.

Thanks for the vote of, err, confidence, jrabbit, but I must decline also.
I'd like to be a part of the leadership at some point, but at the mo' my student life is too spontaneous for me to reliably fulfil all the responsibilities such an office would bestow upon one.

Perhaps in the next mid-trimester break though...

YES MBloom! You must stay in government! THe people demand it!

"I hereby, and with great confidence in my abilities to meet the challenge, throw my hat into the ring for the Cabinet position of City Planner.

"I do not seek this high position lightly or with any lack of knowledge. Indeed, I seek the position at this time only because I feel I am the best-qualified candidate for the job.

"My friends, we are at a critical time in the formation of the essential infrastructure of our rapidly-growing cities. There is great public debate concerning the priorities of construction vs unit-formation, the establishment of great Wonders, and within the order of construction of marketplaces/libraries.

"To meet this challenge, we need someone with experience. Well, there are a lot of people in the Civ world who would agree that that is the only thing I am any damn good at at all! What better testimonial can I offer.

"I have a feeling that I am going to end up doing *something*, so you better make sure it is the thing I am good at!

"I promise the following:

1. I will maintain close working relationships with the President, Vice President, and the other Cabinet members!

2. I will remain flexible in arranging the city-planning so as to provide all other functions of the Government the maximum benefits of the efforts of our cities' workers!

3. I will balance polling and personal decision-making concerning our cities. I will poll for all uncertain choices in production, but I will not bother you everytime we need to dig a darn ditch somewhere!

4. I will keep the President advised of every possible advantage I can find in resource development, city placement, and worker locations.

5. I will resolve the library/marketplace issue for the greater glory of our civ at this time!

"I recognize that our honored First President has also indicated an interest in this position. I humbly request that he apply his broad and valuable experience to a different Cabinet post for the overall benefit of our civilization. Far be it from me to suggest whaere he can best apply thosedeep talents and considerable experience, but I believe that the Foreign Minister will be a position of great importance as we face Rome and India in the upcoming years!

"Lastly, I actively seek the support of my fellow citizens. Hard money, soft money, posts of support, anything will help. Declare your support of one who will represent the desires of the citizenry *and* the needs of our GLORIOUS Civilization as one single goal from which I will never waver!

"Thank you all in advance!"

- - - - - - - - -

Testimonials:

Ghengis Khan - "What's a city? Well, whatever it is, this guy can sure build them."

Christopher Wren: "I've seen great cities. This cavebear guy has a great sense of style. He always knows what's needed."

Alexander the Great: "Cities? Big deal, give me fighting men, and that nut 'cavebear' can worry about the cities. Just so long as he names one after me."

Mike the Martian: "I Grok cities. Cavebear Groks cities. Cities Grok cavebear."

John Maynard Keynes: "Guns vs butter, libraries vs marketplaces, Wonders vs pikesmen. That's all too confusing. I let cavebear handle those factors."

El Awrence as our economics advisor=> (only his 3th term max is 4 see the other tread about this)

a I think this question is of a little more importance=>
who will be military advisor?
will he/she be peacefull or warmonger?
will she/he make sure we are safe?
will he/she be an explorer?
will she/he be a backstabber?

--> who's up for this?

Good stuff admasj, your illustrious career can only get more so from here on now that we have contact with so many Civs!

Erm, when do we think these elections are and the new terms begin? Only that I have two weeks off of Uni comin' up and during this time I COULD do some heavy High Councilling - are the terms of office one month?

How's about some idea of what exactly the Ministers do? I think we all know the President and Vice's roles and what the Ministers are supposed to do, but what have ppl actually been doing all this time? Some have been most vocal and active with polls and such, but others (ˇUds conocen quien están!) have been ... less active.

So... is it as much work and self-organization as it seems to be? And has anyone been doing this 6-18 hours out of phase with the rest of the world and the High Council? And has anyone missed any deadlines 'cause of time differences?

Got spare money?

Marquis de Sodaq - My respect for the service you have already provided our Civ is unbounded. My certainity that you could serve with equal distinction in any Cabinet Post is equally immeasurable.

My suggestion that just possibly some other Cabinet Post than City Planner might suit you is only that I, a (potential) newcomer to the Cabinet rank, wish to serve and to serve where my talents are best-suited.

I assure you that I do not wish that you not serve our Civ, only that I might also be permitted such service and we cannot both hold the same position. My idea that you might consider the post of Foreign Minister was only that, a suggestion. Other Cabinet posts you might wish to seek are yours to decide, of course.

I only ask that, in the interests of the overall good of our Civ, you consider a post not as earnestly sought as my desire to be our City Planner. Naturally, if you seek some other Cabinet Post, I would support your candidacy for that post energetically in exchange for your support of my own desire.
