Since I'm about to leave on holiday and won't return until 01 April, I thought I'd start this thread on my way out the door. Following are the previous election results...
Position -- 4000 BC (February 2002) -- 975 BC (March 2002)
President -- Marquis de Sodaq -- Shaka Naldur
Vice-president -- Shaka Naldur -- MBloomIII
Science Advisor -- Gramphos -- Gramphos
Foreign Advisor -- adamsj -- adamsj
Millitary Advisor -- Shade -- Shade
Trade Advisor -- El Awrence -- El Awrence
City Planner -- kassiopeia -- kassiopeia
Imperial Expansion -- Frank Johnson -- Frank Johnson
Historian -- Albert B. -- Albert B.
Clearly, we need some fresh meat, er, blood among the leadership. In fact, IIRC our constitution had term limits precluding anyone from holding the same postion for more than 2 consecutive months. If true, this means an entirely new cabinet of advisors! Early nominations --
MBloomIII for President. He's done a fine job during the time since he inherited the job from Shaka, and deserves a full-term chance to continue his policies.
Based on post count, having strong opinions, and not being already in office, I nominate the following citizens for VP/Cabinet postions. (Let them speak for the posts they'd prefer - or avoid...)
Zealot
cavebear
Nemphis

Hydey

As for myself, I've foolishly volunteered to take over as Historian (and yet, have done no writing since posting to that effect). AlbertB, where are you?

Fellow citizens, esteemed government officials, lurkers, and members of the press, thanks for coming.
At this time, after taking into consideration the best interests of United Apolyton, i remove myself from contention of any office for the next election. my reasons for doing so are many, but i'm too lazy to list them. blah blah blah, yackity smackity, put some nice politician-speak here.
in conclusion, i ain't running, so don't bother electing me

"I hereby, and with great confidence in my abilities to meet the challenge, throw my hat into the ring for the Cabinet position of City Planner.
"I do not seek this high position lightly or with any lack of knowledge. Indeed, I seek the position at this time only because I feel I am the best-qualified candidate for the job.
"My friends, we are at a critical time in the formation of the essential infrastructure of our rapidly-growing cities. There is great public debate concerning the priorities of construction vs unit-formation, the establishment of great Wonders, and within the order of construction of marketplaces/libraries.
"To meet this challenge, we need someone with experience. Well, there are a lot of people in the Civ world who would agree that that is the only thing I am any damn good at at all! What better testimonial can I offer.
"I have a feeling that I am going to end up doing *something*, so you better make sure it is the thing I am good at!
"I promise the following:
1. I will maintain close working relationships with the President, Vice President, and the other Cabinet members!
2. I will remain flexible in arranging the city-planning so as to provide all other functions of the Government the maximum benefits of the efforts of our cities' workers!
3. I will balance polling and personal decision-making concerning our cities. I will poll for all uncertain choices in production, but I will not bother you everytime we need to dig a darn ditch somewhere!
4. I will keep the President advised of every possible advantage I can find in resource development, city placement, and worker locations.
5. I will resolve the library/marketplace issue for the greater glory of our civ at this time!
"I recognize that our honored First President has also indicated an interest in this position. I humbly request that he apply his broad and valuable experience to a different Cabinet post for the overall benefit of our civilization. Far be it from me to suggest whaere he can best apply thosedeep talents and considerable experience, but I believe that the Foreign Minister will be a position of great importance as we face Rome and India in the upcoming years!
"Lastly, I actively seek the support of my fellow citizens. Hard money, soft money, posts of support, anything will help. Declare your support of one who will represent the desires of the citizenry *and* the needs of our GLORIOUS Civilization as one single goal from which I will never waver!
"Thank you all in advance!"

Testimonials:
Ghengis Khan - "What's a city? Well, whatever it is, this guy can sure build them."
Christopher Wren: "I've seen great cities. This cavebear guy has a great sense of style. He always knows what's needed."
Alexander the Great: "Cities? Big deal, give me fighting men, and that nut 'cavebear' can worry about the cities. Just so long as he names one after me."
Mike the Martian: "I Grok cities. Cavebear Groks cities. Cities Grok cavebear."
John Maynard Keynes: "Guns vs butter, libraries vs marketplaces, Wonders vs pikesmen. That's all too confusing. I let cavebear handle those factors."
