I want to know what slowpokes do during their turns? Cuz maybe we can eleminate the time it takes them to do stuff...
Here is what i do every turn.
1. I never have more then 5 units to move a turn. When building caravans i build all caravans and move them all to my capitol, or the biggest enemy city i can find.. if it demends the goods or not doesn't matter.
2. happy citizens, i just use the F4 key when its not my turn and check to see if anyone is unhappy.
3. trade is maxed out permently in my 6 biggest cities. other other cities don't matter a bit, and are usually a few steps behind my core cities.

1 - Often you can do with more units though, especially in duels. If you only have a couple units moving around in a duel you sacrifice a lot of opportunities for taking undefended cities, etc.
2 - As long as you don't manage cities on your turn it doesn't matter how you do it.
3 - I max out production in some of my big cities, too. I also try to keep other cities well managed though - but again I do it all when it's not my turn.

ok but later in a 7 player game... how come some people... aka diety take 40 minutes to move while others take 1 minute.
Around 800 AD 1x 1x deity?

People take a long time because they aren't totally familiar with the game yet. Not everyone can keep track of exactly where each unit is, what each city is doing, that sort of thing. Therefore they must go and recheck those things whereas with us we can simply know what is going on everywhere and keep it down to a minimum. When I'm playing a civ2 game my mouse doesn't stop moving. I look like I"m playing an RTS game when I play because the map just keeps flicking all over the place because I'm constantly planning out the next moves in advance so I know exactly where to move each unit and what city is going to do what next so when my turn does come around I can zoom through it.

when the formula goes off the rails because of other complexities/deals etc such players miss out on this richness. |
Is that before or after they fall asleep?

My turns are usually very short - unless there's sex scene on the TV or one of the children starts vomiting in bed or the baby needs a bottle
During Deity's turn I usually make a sandwich and a cup tea, have a cigarette or 2, watch a movie, make love to my wife, finish painting the house, check my E-mail, talk to finbar and Hydey on icq, arrange a new housing loan and an overseas holiday, ring my mum, pay the household bills, do my tax return, surf the net, work on my novel, go for a jog, do some car repairs, have a long shower and when I get back I get on kingchat and tell him to hurry up.
You guys have just got to learn to use the time in a Deity turn better

hey I even told DD to hurry up the other day! |
Come on guys. That was one turn. Its was a seven man game so I walked away from the comp for a minute and when I cam back its was my turn. On top of that someone had landed in my civ. I tried to contact them to tell them to leave or I would kill them. They didn't respond so then I had to batll and take the rest of my turn.

Oh, its Deity's turn.......
Put another log on the fire.
Cook me up some bacon and some beans.
And go out to the car and change the tire.
Wash my socks and sew my old blue jeans.
Come on, baby, you can fill my pipe
And then go fetch my slippers.
And boil me up another pot of tea.
Then put another log on the fire babe,
And come & tell me why you're playing Deity.
Now don't I let you wash the car on Sunday?
And don't I warn you when you're gettin fat?
Ain't I a-gonna take you fishin' with me someday?
Well, a man can't love a woman more than that.
And ain't I always nice to your kid sister?
Don't I take her driving every night?
So, sit here at my feet cause I like you when you're sweet,
And you know it ain't feminine to fight.
So, put another log on the fire.

Diety is slow... As for people blaming it on their connections that is just pure BS. If your connection is truely bad the host would get stalls and it would get choppy for everyone. Since civ is a real time game you can tell exactly how much lag someone has by watching their units move. If their units are moving the same speed by your civ, as units from other civs then its fairly certain that there is no lag..
