It's their way to show off. Anybody having been here so long has no life anyway and deserves to get what little compensation that brings their doubtlessly fragile egos.

RPM, if you mean my age, 1-27-46.

I m no expert on the net, but no ordinary business had modems in 1969. BBN had only made the transport in August of 1969. In essence, net did not existed before that, except on paper. UCLA, I think was first one. I would not be surprised to learn some in the loop shops had prototypes. I know mainframes connected to the net as there was nothing but mainframes at the time. The first IBM distributed system came in the 70's as I recall. I started training for computer maint in 1965, in a Navy school after seeing them the year before at Navy base.

Naw, I was shooting for GPs on the '69. I suspected mid 1950's for GP. I already had a good idea on yours because of your earlier posts.

Moom, no way he's that young. He posts with some youthful exuberance, but if you read between the lines, the wisdom shows through.

I guess in all seriousness he would to a good job on it. He's a great guide writer in general...and in this case, he's got lots of insder knowledge. I'd be surprised if the orginal plan wasn't for him to write the strat guide. (nice synergy). Of course, given the way he exitted, it's hard not to think that both he and QS may be a little bitter. Not sure if that would impact the strat guide...

Yeah, seems like a long shot for Alan to write the strat guide at this point.

Perhaps an inofficial one, though?

GP, quit teasing them! On Feb 15, 1999 Dan & Mark switched from the shareware version of UBB to the professional version of UBB. For some reason, date of registration could not be carried over with other profile data.

If you look in the Archives you'll see the converted UBB HTML pages show older registration dates as "b. 2-15-99." On conversion to vBulletin the "default" registration is Dec 69, apparently some date connected with the founding of Arpanet.

Well, the Unix Era begins at 00:00:01 January 1st, 1970, so that's what a lot of servers default to for time - even Windows ones. I took it for granted that was it.

And I think you longtimer guys deserve it - as a recognition for long and ardent duty, eh?

Damn you, I got diet coke all over my monitor thanks to joke about the good old days. Of course I do remember my early Usenet days 1980 when you would actually wait days for a reply to a post.
