As for the thread topic - one thread on what we think about the conflict should suffice. That's not a reason to make this turn into a lovefest. Those who say they hate the state of Israel are just damn bullsh!tters. You guys obvoiuosly don't have enough problems in real life, or maybe too many. In the case of St MArcus who I usually respect as a great Eurocom it's obviously a big ego thing to go about telling others how much he hates them and how superior his home continent is. Americans, Israelis... who are you going to troll next, Mark?

But still - nuke the region and we'll live in peace

Sure. Dispite what you may say on these boards, most Europeans equate "Israel" with "The Jews." Part of the problem is, most Europeans don't know any Jews. They did too good a job of killing them. (Seriously, I'm not trying to be purposefully offensive)

On the otherhand, in recent years, Western Europe has been flooded by angry militant Muslim immigrants, very few of whom have a love of Israel that goes beyond 'apathy'. You're more likely to believe tripe spewed by some Mullah in Paris than statement from a Jewish-American University Porfessor because, let's face it, in the "new and tolerant" EU efforts have been made to assimiliate muslim immigrants at the very tiny Jewish minority's expense.

I'm not saying that all Muslim immigrants should not be allowed into western countries, that's poppycrock. Somewhere in my lineage I have a Syrian who came through Ellis Island. What I'm saying is that Western Nations shouldn't bow down to one minority over the other.

I think that the obvious solution to this problem is resorting to a method of punishment that my brother and I recieved when we were younger. If we were fighting over a toy, our mom would take the toy away from both of us. Maybe we should kick both Israel and the Palestinians out of the area. Then Americans and Europeans can turn the area into a tourist hotbed. McDonald's on every corner, with Holy Disneyland in Jerusalem. Make it the Monaco of the Middle East. To ensure that the Israelis and the Palestinians don't cause any more trouble, we can move all of the Israelis to the Yukon, and send all of the Palestinians to Siberia. Build a barrier through the Bering straight so they can't get to each other. This way, everyone wins. The Israelis and the Palestinains are at peace, and the world gets a great new vacation spot. ( at least until Euro Holy Disney land opens up)

Organized religion is not an issue in this conflict? I doubt that very much.

The Israelites are where they are because that location is the holy land for three major religions. If Judaism as an organized religion did not make it one of their primary goals to occupy all of the holy land, there would be no conflict.

On the other hand, to make things equal, those suicide bombers believe that they are doing what is right in God's eyes by killing innocent civilians. Granted they are not following the teachings of the Koran or Muhammad, but it is because of their faith that they do what they do.

Bullshit.

The Zionist leaders were all secular and they weren't looking for religion, but for tradition.

Eli,

Don't worry about Israel. Something like 75% of Americans support Israel, another 10 or so % doesn't care. Half of our administration wants to give Sharon permission to do what has to be done. Americans can't understand the European perspective, and vice-versa. In the end, the U.S. is behind Israel. If Egypt would attack, it would recieve the beating of its life time.

I'd argue the Jews are a ethnic group rather than a religion. It wasn't a religious movement, but more like the Roma.

Well whatever the case may be, I must refine my statement. I am not against religions mind you. I am perfectly fine with people believing in a higher power and worshipping it (though I believe in none). My problem is with organizations of any kind that force a belief on others. And religions have done this at many times in history.

But it is not soley religions who have done this. For example it is Hitler that forced the belief that all Jews needed to die (he is probably the most memorable anti-semite) and so his organization (the Nazi party I guess) was wrong. His anti-semitism actually led to the advancement of the Zionist movement which eventually placed the Jews in Israel again.

So the cause of many problems in the world today are organizations that intentionally (or unintentionally) force a belief that harms humanity. And it is those organizations, some being religious organizations, that are the reason for the current"Crisis in the Middle East".

Damnit... everytime I talk I seem to give away some of my plans for attempting to save the world...

I don't think Egypt is asking for a bribe. I think they are setting what they think is an unrealisitically high number to dramatize their point that war is not on their agenda.

BTW, Egypt has been armed and trained by the US for almost 20 years. They could probably fight the Israelis to a standstill. If you toss in the Saudis and the Jordanians, well, Israel would probably dust off the weapons everyone knows they have but pretends they don't have.

Eli, losing the Aswan Dam would be a good thing for Egypt. It's killing the Nile, which is the life blood of Egypt. They don't even get all that much electricity from it, because the resevior behind the damn has silted up

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

At least we hope so....I wonder what Sharon and Arafat's favourite computer game is?

Hmmm....how would you show the situation in Israel in Civ 2?

Barbarian fanatics in arms near Jenin!!

And a few barbarian spies 'poisoning wells' (closest equivalent to suicide attacks on civilians)

Oh, and a few barbarian artillery units ocassionally mindlessly unsuccessfully attacking a stack of fortified vet mechanized inf and tanks in a fortress square on a hill in the north...the artillery units would use the 'katyusha' graphic from the Red Front...

Maybe the barbarian spies should belong to the Iranian or Iraqi civilization? Do you think that would simulate it better?

That's true. Even worse are the damns Sudan has been building which have submerged valuable archeological sites. Many believe that Khartoum has ideological/theological reasons for wanting to destroy this history. Given the National Islamic Front government's penchant for genocide, I don't doubt it.

Nevertheless, Egypt prizes the Aswan as though it is the life-blood of the nation. The military destruction of the Aswan would be regarded by Cairo as on par with a nuclear attack.

The result would be, at least, Scud missles with chemical/biological warheads raining down on Israeli cities.
