	Egypt might go to war for 100B$?!? Suffering from ads?

here is an excerpt from a Jerusalem Post article:

Meanwhile, Egypt's Prime Minister Atef Obeid told a Qatari newspaper that Egypt will not go to war with Israel over the current standoff between the Palestinians and the Israelis.

"Egypt can defend itself but the Egyptian army will not move outside our border. War will never happen ... forget it," he told Doha's major newspaper al-Watan.

Pressed by the interviewer, the prime minister was quoted as saying war would require concerted effort - including financial assistance - from all Arabs.

"Make the Arab world put $100 billion of the Arab funds available around the world and say 'this is a confrontation budget ... here you go Egypt, you leader, this budget is at your disposal, go ahead and begin the confrontation,'" Obeid was quoted as saying.

He would not say Egypt would go to war if given the money, but was quoted as saying if it were offered, "your calculations change."

So what is this about? He says Egypt won't go to war, but then hints that with the proper financial support, Egypt just might reconsider.

In Egypt there is still some national feeling attached to being the "Arab leader" and to macho posturing versus Israel. Read Sadat's autobiography...he makes sure to call himself not only a peace hero but a "war hero" for the conduct of the 73 war.

Amen. Its curious how another nation, Israel, can commit a war crime against us (firing on the Liberty's lifeboats) yet we still hold out our open hands of support.

I'm waiting for the Canadians to call the friendly fire incident in Afghanistan a "war crime." Get over yourselves, Israel is one of the best friends we have, even if the do tend to misbehave sometimes.

I cannot stand the Israel supporters who say it is all Palestine's fault.
I cannot stand the Palestine supportes who say it is all Israel's fault.

Both countries, both peoples, have done terrible things to each other in the past couple of decades.

But the ultimate cause, the original reason for the conflict between these two nations, is thousands of years in the past.

And now they both fight simply because they were raised to.

The violence needs to stop, completely and totally. Violence serves no purpose. It is most definetely the easiest way to solve a problem, but it is a short term solution that ends up causing more problems then it solves. It does not matter that Israel or Palestine say they are simply defending themselves. They are still killing.

Ugh, organized religion... Ugh, a group of people that forces a belief on another... the cause of so many problems in this world.

There needs to be peace in the ME. Both sides must stop this nonsense. Both sides do not want to yield anything to the other. If they don't do it soon they are going to drag the whole world into war. I don't want this.

Why does the media, Israel, and the politicians keep beating into our heads that Israel is the best friend we ever had. As an individual American citizen where are the benefits of this friendship? I don't see any in my day to day life. All I see is a massive amount of my paycheck going over to a country which cannot live in peace because they don't want to live in peace. They want the war, so that they can keep extracting money from us. There will come a point when the american people can't take the financial burden anymore and put a stop to all economic aid to countries. This is killing our economy. Let's take care of our problems first. Then worry about the world. If you don't think we have any problems then look out the window. We're the richest nation in the world yet we have a high homeless population.

1) To the best of my knowledge two american investigations into the Liberty attack proved it was an honest mistake.

2) Israel is America's partner because:

a. we cooperate in bussiness (guess where all your intel chips are being invented?)(guess where all microsoft products are being invented?)(guess where PHP was invented?)(guess where ICQ was invented?)

b. we cooperate in science - Israel has huge scientific knowledge potencial. many medicine and technology firms are cooperating.

c. we cooperate in military - Israel has used it's scientific ability to design excellent weapons, most often together with american scientists and with american support.

d. we cooperate in intelligence - the Mossad is one of the best intelligence organizations and shares it's information with the CIA and NSA. Very often, they cooperate. During the 60s the Mossad delivered top-secret KGB reports to the desks of CIA officers.

e. we, like america, are a democracy, with many different camps and opinions. with many minorities and many civil and social problems. we view america as a prime example of a great democracy.

By "all" do you mean Banias, the low-cost Pentium 4-based mobile chip due out this year that Intel is only developing there because of intense Israeli-government lobbying and tax-breaks? They also have 1 fab there, I believe. AMD has their low-cost fab in Ireland, Intel has theirs in Israel.

Redmond mostly, but the Cambridge UK campus is the 2nd largest development complex. Microsoft has offices in most countries, probably including Israel.

Firstly, the amount of aid sent to Israel is negligable as portion of your tax dollars, and secondly, most of it gets spent buying weapons from American factories. If we didn't have allies like Israel and Egypt to buy our weapons, our defense industries would have trouble staying afloat in times of peace.

Secondly, Yasser Arafat personally ordered American diplomats to be shot - yet we give the PA foriegn aid. Also, IIRC, and correct me if I'm wrong, no one was actually in the Liberty life boats - the boat didn't sink.
