S. Kroeze, I'll give you a few quotes from the 4th Geneva Convention:
quote: the present Convention shall apply to all cases of declared war or of any other armed conflict which may arise between two or more of the High Contracting Parties, even if the state of war is not recognized by one of them. |
Note, the Palestinians were and are not a High Contracting party.
The following apply to civil wars:
quote: Art. 3. In the case of armed conflict not of an international character occurring in the territory of one of the High Contracting Parties, each Party to the conflict shall be bound to apply, as a minimum, the following provisions:
(1) Persons taking no active part in the hostilities, including members of armed forces who have laid down their arms and those placed hors de combat by sickness, wounds, detention, or any other cause, shall in all circumstances be treated humanely, without any adverse distinction founded on race, colour, religion or faith, sex, birth or wealth, or any other similar criteria.
To this end the following acts are and shall remain prohibited at any time and in any place whatsoever with respect to the above-mentioned persons:
(a) violence to life and person, in particular murder of all kinds, mutilation, cruel treatment and torture;
(b) taking of hostages;
(c) outrages upon personal dignity, in particular humiliating and degrading treatment;
(d) the passing of sentences and the carrying out of executions without previous judgment pronounced by a regularly constituted court, affording all the judicial guarantees which are recognized as indispensable by civilized peoples.
(2) The wounded and sick shall be collected and cared for.
An impartial humanitarian body, such as the International Committee of the Red Cross, may offer its services to the Parties to the conflict.
The Parties to the conflict should further endeavour to bring into force, by means of special agreements, all or part of the other provisions of the present Convention.
The application of the preceding provisions shall not affect the legal status of the Parties to the conflict
|
I believe Israel observes the above provisions involving a civil war. Note there is nothing in the above concerning settlement of citizens of one party into another party's territory. That appears in the main convention, when two High Contracting Parties are at war.

Europeans ALWAYS have the right to settle in another part of the world against the wish of the native population.
Europeans ALWAYS have the right to abduct non-Europeans into slavery.
Europeans ALWAYS have the right to promise an oppressed people (i.e. Arabs) self-determination without honouring this promise.
Europeans deserve democracy and self-determination, while non-Europeans do not.
European refugees deserve preferential treatment, while non-Europeans do not.
European powers have the right to restrict the immigration of refugees, while non-Europeans have NO right whatsoever!
The British had every right to rule India, Egypt, the Middle East etc. They only departed because they chose to do so, but when they desire they can re-establish their rule tomorrow....

S.Kroeze, change "right" to "power" and I agree with the above. This ties into your former accusation that Might makes Right. Your singling out of England is an acknowledgement that England was simply stronger that Holland, else Holland would have controlled/expanded as much as did the English.
In the Ancient world, the Phoencians, Greeks and Romans were particularly active colonizers.
Regardless of your revisionist thinking, S. Kroeze, colonization resulted in the spreading of certain fundamental concepts of government and human rights throughout Europe, in ancient times, and from Europe to the rest of the world in modern times.
Indeed, I also agree that it brought with it abuses of the local population who fought the colonists and lost. I have already agreed that the Native Americans suffered.
But can you imagine what the world would be like without Greek expansion, followed by Roman expansion, followed by European expansion? I rest my case.
I expect S. Kroeze, that you would like America restored to the Native Americans and Europe to be restored to the Celts and Basques, with everyone of German or Roman descent removed back to their ancient homeland.
And, of course, since we are writing on the Apolyton forum, that the circumstances of Terrans colonizing Alpha Centauri should never be allowed.
Right?

It is simple... the aggressor, without a doubt, is and has been Israel. We should beat them down as we did Iraq when they used aggression against Kuwait. |
hi ,
so we can , ahem , should "beat" down on the aggressor hé , okay , then the whole world shoud start with the people who hide behind a faith to kill other people and even their own , ......
this sounds like coming from a person who has never seen the horror , the pain and evil that a conflict brings , ............
maybe , just maybe some people should start to wake up , .......
never there has been a winner in a conflict , even the winning side has pain , .............
have a nice day
