Here's another important reason for our being on the 'poly site! We've got a ferociously talented team put together, and I have every confidence in our abilities to get this thing done....however, it would be easier to get everything done if we could interest a few more people with specific skill sets to the project.

To that end, here's what we're currently a bit short on.

1) Artists! We've got ten programmers, and two artists. A bit unbalanced. So....if there's anybody out there who knows a thing or three about photoshop, poser, and/or Bryce (or, is artisitically inclined and willing to learn), contact me at WebMaster@velociryx.every1.net!

2) Sound! Right now, is spookily quiet in the Kingdom of Candle'Bre, cos we have no sound expert, and we could sure use one! Again, contact me at the e-mail addy above if you're good with music and sound effects! We could use a hand!

3) Testers! Well, we don't need any right now, but once we get a working Beta out, we'll need as many as we can lay our hands on!

Count me in as a tester, although I'm afraid I'm not really capable of doing much other than the "fun kind" as one of your mob put it. I'm more than happy to spend eons playing around with any alpha's/beta's but I guess that might be a while away yet.
In the meantime I could still play around with the core rules or somesuch - trying to find ways to twist/pervert/break them etc, ie: ultimately prevent others from doing so.

Plus, as I may've pointed out before, I'm very good at breaking things. Software, firmware, hardware - you name it - I can break it. Not quite sure how useful that will be though.

Sound-related skills are at about zero and artistic ability is a fair bit below that.

That and I make lousy coffee *Notices who the new Moderator is*, erm, sir!

Kiss A$$!

I unfortunately have no skills in those areas, however, I make up for that by lacking skills in all other areas as well.

Sir?!

SIR?!

Okay....first new rule....nobody call me Sir!

Consider yourself welcomed to the party, Ravagon! You supply your own snackages, and we'll supply the games/rules!

And speaking of that, I'm gonna copy and paste what strategy notes we have thus far on the game over here (since we're prepping to retire the Portal Forum), and a copy of the core rules for downloading.

You're quite right....while we're getting the first version ready to set sail, we can at least pore over the rules set and try to find creative ways of breaking them....

Well, the terrain/game map is being desinged using Bryce3d/photoshop, and the army/unit graphics will be put together using poser/photoshop, but as to anything more specific (file formats, resolutions, and stuff), I'll have to defer to the Lady Cathy, our Art Director, for greater detail.

But from the drafts I've been seeing, it's gonna look SWEET!

I concur; Vel's Bryce-work looks pretty good... as a backstory/map guy who is completely inept at art and computers, I don't know how we are implementing art yet, but what we have looks pretty darn good!

For the combat engine in version 0.1, it will feature full 3d top of the range text...

Heya Ramo! A BIG thanks for volunteering!

We had a survey that new "recruits" filled out, but why don't you send me an email telling me what languages you're proficeint in, and your general programming experience. In particular with Java since that's the language we picked for our project. And then we'll go from there.

my email is: ramses@sandplane.com

Thanks mate!

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

I humbly offer my aid as a tester.

I downloaded the core rules and the strategy notes and plan to look at them more closely later (I'm at work now).

My aim is simple: to break all established rules and to turn the programmers' lives into a living hell!

Now seriously, I hope I can be of any help.

----
Alex.

Alex...if that's your aim, then you're gonna LOVE the Fate Card idea we've got going for the game...the whole idea for them is that they stress/break/stretch the existing game rules, making the whole environment MUCH more fluid....

SIR, YES SIR! I MEAN, SIR, NO SIR!

Hey, you can count me as a tester! I bet my AMD k6-2 @ 300 MHz with 64 MB RAM and a 4 GB HDD (meaning low virtual memory available) will certainly be a "nice" challenge the programmers will have to overcome!

Oh, that and my gud ingrish tu!

Edit: I just remembered my video card doesn't support hardware acceleration!
But since you're not going to use DirectX 7 or above, I don't think I have to worry about that.

Suffering from ads?

Hi,

Please count me in as a potential playtester - (along with the rest of the horde I imagine!) and general batter around of ideas. Other than that my 'puter skills are fairly minimal, so I can't help much with implementation.

- Looking forward to version 1.0 in glorious 3D CombatText .

Quick request - is there a link (in another thread or otherwise) to the current rules and other relevant bits and pieces? If I'm going to be posting on this forum I should probably be clued up a little.

Rich

Put an end to popups!

I'm a pretty kickass playtester..the other stuff I've done is RTS and table-top RPG, but I'd definitely be interested in giving you guys a hand there.

Give me a year and I'll be proficient in photoshop too.

Rav - that link is indeed the most recent, so long as you combine it with http://apolyton.net/forums/showthre...&threadid=49388 - the updates thread. Nothing hugely serious, but some balance issues that were definitely needed.

Well, I wish you best of luck on making this game and all other future games. I would love to help with the game, but I don't have the time because of my own endeavours*. However, I'll be sure to keep tabs on the game.

*I've been learning C++ for the past couple of months, and I've made two text based games so far (look at my sig). Currently I'm working on a variation of a pacman game that will include a refined random map generator, but it's still going to be a console app. My goal is to do exactly as you are, Vel, and that is to create my own commercial games. More than likely this will be possible for me within a year or so, I think. I've been giving it a lot of thought for a while now, and as time has gone on it's becoming more and more realistic.

A few questions that I have that don't relate soley to the game, and are mainly for my own personal benefit. If you don't mind I'd appreciate it if you could answere these. How is/was the group setup? I know the basics of it, but did you individually ask these people to help you out? Are all of the members from Apolyton? Who are all of the team members? How many members do you have total, if the number of 10 programmers and 2 artists has changed? How long have each of you been programming? How are you arranging for the coding process to take place? How will you be distributing the game (I know the OS and free parts of it)? How do you arrange meetings and such? What actions are you taking for the legal process? How long do you foresee this game taking to be fully complete? How will you be supporting this game after it's complete version is released? What API will you be using? Why did you choose Java as the language of choice?

I know that I have a lot of questions, but if you could take the time out to answer them I would be very grateful, thanks.
