I agree. Abolishing the Death Penalty is stupid. It takes a legitamate tool of justice out of the hands of the people.

Not sure if that makes the attackers gay or bisexual.

Probably homophobics who either rammed objects up his ass, or did actually use their actual private part.

Personally, I waffle on the issue of capital punishment. On the one hand, mistakes can and will be made, and the idea that the state therefore kills innocents from time to time sickens me. On the other hand, every time I think I've decided that the death penalty should be done away with, some maniac commits a crime horrible enough for me to reconsider. If forced to pick a side, I would say abolish it, but that is by no means a firm conviction.

Just for students like Boddington. Not cute little dolphins like you BC.

Seriously though...I got paddled, but it wasn't that often. Not a big deal. Lots of "good kids" never got anything. It's not a big hairy deal...

Definitely not analagous to capital punishment. Unless your ass is really soft...

I personally think kicking a hairy lard-arse can teach them a lesson.

Anyway, the analogy was whether any "legitimate" punishment can be removed from the people. i.e Can a "legitimate" disciplining tool be removed from parents/teachers.

Congratulations --- you found an entirely separate topic that calls for a separate thread -- corporal punishment in schools.

Now, back to the death penalty and its international implications.

I'm for it, especially up to grade 8. After grade 8, I think that many students will be too big for it to have any effect. (Imagine giving the heavyweight wrestler a smacking) I think that a bruised a$$ would send the message to straighten up better than a simple detention. However, I think that the best place that corporal punishment should be used is in the home, while the child is still young enough to learn from lessons. I'd say that parents shouldn't hit children anwhere but the backside, but other than that I am 100% for corporal punishment.

Striking a child on the ass still constitutes physical violence in my opinion.

I do not care how many people on Apolyton brag about how well they are now, because of the physical violence they received as "discipline."

Again -- it does not matter WHERE you strike a child -- physical violence is physical violence.

I know -- I guess I fell under the spell of the thread-jack topic.

And nationalist and GP --- physical violence is never appropriate for disciplining children. It just teaches that physical violence is the right way to resolve problems --- when it is not the right way.

You can brag all you want how you are now citizen role-models because of the physical violence you were subjected to. Morally, physical violence is wrong.

I disagree 100%. Physical violence is not always morally wrong, and spanking doesn't teach a child to always deal with things using violence.

Does anyone here remember that the US tried abolishing the DP for a period of time? Violent crime multipied during the period in which the death penalty was abolished. To aggrevate the problem monsters like Charles Manson baited the public. I'm willing to bet that of you guys had "Chuckie" in your jail making bad attempts at acting insane while giving the at large memebers of his tribe orders to kill your most prominent politicians you'd feel very different about abolishing the death penalty.

What!? Violent crime doubled??

What time period?? What source did you get this data from --- from an obviously pro-death sentence source?

I'd assume from when the DP was abolished .

From Furman v. Georgia in 1972 to... Gregg v. Georgia in 1976.

edit: more specification.
