what's good about Holland? Read the economist j/k. They did vote us as the country that has the best business climate in the world. We also have the 3rd best healthcare system in the world (after Iceland and Belgium). Extremely low unemployement. Very progressive. etc, etc, etc.

Though I think Holland does suck pretty much.

Dutch have alway been in the past the most enlighted people in Europe. They always refused religious intolerence and fanatism.

There is nothing about being Dutch that is particularly fantastic when it comes to character or anything. Since I'm assuming that you've lived your entire life in New Zealnd (do correct me if I'm wrong), you've grown up with the value system of that country and not that of the Netherlands. These sorts of traits aren't genetic, after all, they're environmental and social.

We call that a free market
Woman (and man) working in prostitution are organizised in their own Insitutions, getting regular health checks, pay taxes, get protected by the police, etc. IMO that is certainly a lot better than the american prostitution system, with pimps getting the money

Havent heard of anyone protesting against it yet.

Sadly, Hueij, what you say is true not only for the Netherlands, but for most of occupied Europe. Certainly in France and Poland, where local citizens often helped in rounding up the Jews.

Huh? What does legal prostitution have to do with husbands visiting prostitution? Legalisation is about recognising the rights of the women involved. They are now officially their own employer, with every official rights involved, or employees protected by our labour laws... A good thing IMO...

But to get back to SnOOpy... I can't give you any reasons why you should be proud to be partly Dutch or why you should want to live here... I just like it here, a small country trying to find its way in the Big Bad World, decent standard of living, not enough political differences to beat each others head in, on the right path to important things like laws on euthanasia etc enz usw...

There are certain issues that I wish were simply given to women to decide. The legalization of prostitution and abortion are two of these. Men are not adversely affected to any great degree by either of these issues. However women are. I would respect their vote.

I believe the majority view of women in the United States remains that prostitution should remain illegal. However the argument that regulation of prostitution rather than its a illegalization provides a better life for prostitutes has a great deal force. There is a continuing discussion of this issue in San Francisco. However prostitution remain illegal.
