The Martian Olympics are not in any way meant to be competitive with the Earth ones, but rathyer to give Martian Athletes a chance to compete just like Earth athletes. I also call for having moon Olympics. WE have no intentions to "do a better trainment to get ready for the next Olympics" (ooc: that should soon angry and contemptuous). We find it insulting that you think our straying out of the Olympics is because our athletes are not well trained!

Germany Calls For a Vote to Repeal UN Acts 1A and 1B!

This week, Germany has called for a vote to repeal two UN acts concerning the IPF. The first one, act 1A, calls for equal contribution of military power and manpower by all nations of the UN. The second one, act 1B, says that the IPF is equally funded by all nations.

Germany wishes to repeal these because "it does not take into account that not all nations are powerful and wealthy. Not all nations are powerful, but this seems to imply that." They also want to repeal his because "it seems anti-capitalist and somewhat communal. Germany will not be home to a communist organization!"

NAF proposes:

That we resolve issues in the UN where there is no clear vote, yet an urgent situation, by resurrecting the age old practice of single-combat or by modifying that to a modern sports competition, refereed and arbitrated by a coalition of neutral observers.

We propose that this solution may help avoid such devastating wars as we have experienced in the past.

Also, we want to point out that if an act does not pass, things remain as they are. Failure to pass an act does not mean that the opposite act. That means that article 1d) says we have an IPF but no decision has been made on how the IPF will be sent on missions. The proposal for a 2/3 vote requirement failed, but we have not passed a 50% vote either, so currently, the only way we can send the IPF on missions is if we all agree (the default is always unanimous).

We should also send a IPF UN fact finding mission to Swedish Io and check on the situation there.

NAF is willing to reconsider the equal funding formula to possibly one proportional to national income. However, we fear this might lead to disproportionate power among those who pay more.


Also, the NAF wishes to know what other regulations are in place for the Olympics. For example, are governments allowed to fund athletes or do athletes have to acquire sponsorship from private companies? The NAF, despite our reconstruction, is still a major economy and we don't know whether we should be allowing our amateur Olympic athletes to use everything that our government could put at their disposal. We merely wish to be fair so that when we win all the medals, no one can accuse us of cheating!

Also, are the winter olympics happening in the same year as the summer ones? Or are they alternating?

NAF is concerned about Genecom Strausburg. Genecoms retain their NAF citizenship and we want to know why they are rioting and if they are being mistreated. We must protect the rights of all NAF citizens (including Genecoms) as long as they do not break your laws. That being said, we also are concerned that certain Genecoms may be revolutionaries bent on overturning the authorities. We would like our spy agencies and police agencies to work more closely together to avoid any further "incidents". Any information you can provide to us or the Italian security/spy agencies would be most beneficial.

Stunning news! A small asteroid which had a town of 300,000 martians on on it named New Chryse (it did not have a name until the colony was created) was completely destroyed in what appears to have been multiple massive nuclear explosions! 450,000 Martians are now involved in the investigation. The Empress vows to arrest those responsible as fast as can be possible.

In response, the Pacifist Party is losing both the support of MI and the Empire. THere are no elections this year but next year the following percentages are predicted:

Pacifists: 41%
Martian Way: 46%
Conservative Peaceful Party: 9%
Other: 4%

However, the Conservative Peacful Party and the Pacifists are making a coalition to stop the Martian Way from dominating.

Earlier today the peace in a small village in southern Japan was shattered! At approxamitly 1:00 pm two men paddled a small boat up into the harbor and dentonated a large explosive device killing all that were in the harbor. This attack is thought to have been conducted by the rebels. More Japanese troops are being sent to the Phillipines in an attempt to destroy the rebellion.
"We are preparing for a civil war" said one japanese General.

In other news the Japanese athletes are training hard in preperation for the Olympics. They are expected to take first place in the martial arts competition.

**Secret Report to NAF and Italy Concerning the Strausburg Genecom Revolt**

On the 15th of March, at 9:00 AM Strausburg time, a small group of Genecoms started protesting the GDFR rule in front of a local coffee shop that was state-owned and run by the GDFR.

More Genecoms came and joined the protest. They blocked and beat any 'real' human that tried to get coffee from the coffee shop, which was run by the GDFR.

Eventually, there were 10000 Genecoms in the protest. They started marching down the streets of Strausburg, towards the town center. They attacked any 'real' human they met, and any Genecom they met joined their 'crusade.'

They reached the town center, where they set fire to the City Hall, Courthouse, and many other government buildings. After they did this, the GDFR army was sent in. They were armed with stun guns, weapons which didn't kill, just made the victim unconscious(sp?) for a while. After stun gunning most of the Genecoms, their unconscious bodies were carted off to a 'temporary holding area.'

Then, the Army raided the Genecom HQ, where they found large amounts of cash and advanced weaponry, as well as plans as to how they would take control of the world. The army then destroyed the Genecom HQ.

Obviously, this was all very toned down in the press so it wouldn't cause alarm!

Very Secret!
We checked and saw where the Genecoms got their advanced weaponry. The weapons all said on them:

"Made in the Weapons Labs of Sweedish Jupiter on Io."

To Japan:
Italy has no position on the civil war in Philippines, before we can state our opinion, we should now why the Philippinos are protesting so vigorously for their independence.

To GFDR and NAF (secret): The recent events in Strasburg leaves no doubts to our autorities, the Genecoms are starting their revolutions, or worse, they discovered our spy network.
Our Ships stationing on te Black Sea and in the East Mediterraneum alerted us of a very high immigration of people settling in the former area of Lebanon, in the Persian Empire.
We fear that the Persian might have agreed to give the Genecoms those areas (which we all now were nuked long time ago by the Persians in the Perso-Arab war). Persia might not know about the possible threat, or maybe they wish to use the Genecoms to their advance.
We feel that we should not let the Genecom problem expand any more, we must do something, and we must do it soon.
We don't know if the Genecoms stole those weapons to Sweden, they bought them or worse they are financed by Sweden, in exchange for them to protect the Swedish gov't, but I think we should act dumb a little bit more with Sewden, our reletionship with them are the lowest we have with any country, we do not want to initiate a new war.

The Green Party, under the leadership of Del Piero won again, but they are losing voters to the Isolationist.

Summer olympics in sofia: Opening ceremony
Everything went well during the Opening ceremony of the summer Olympics in Sofia, the crowd cheerd as all the countries and flags walked in the stadium.
Only two coutries were absent: Mars, wich said they couldn't attained, and Sweden, wich refused to let their athletes plays in "enemy territories".
Persian athletes were cheered on when they entered the stadium by the large number of Persian immigrants leaving in Bulgaria, most of them refugees.

End of Reconstruction
Today the last brick was posed into the Italian city of Firenze... the most hit by the war, Italy will from now be able to concantrate more money on other issue... like the Scietist research that will help against the Nuclear Winter.

Famine in Switzerland

The MLO is not extreme, it's just a place for liberals who do not want Mars to continue being pacifist. It's hard to say whether the Real Right is extremist, they are essentially a party which disliked the Martian Way's over-imperialist and Martian superiority ideas and is now catching lots of ex-Martian Way member who left because of the scandals, but these members have brought the more extreme ideas of the Martian Way with them.

ELECTION SPECIAL!

Soon, the GDFR elections will take place. There are a myriad of candidates, so we can't list all of them. Instead, we will list the four major categories of views the candidates have on the Genecom situation, since that is the most important topic this election.

The categories:
1. Learn to live in harmony with the Genecoms; accept them into our society.
2. Send the Genecoms to a new homeland, either on Antarctica or on one of Saturn's moons, and let them live in peace there.
3. Commit genocide and kill all Genecoms. (smallest category)
4. Use an intellegent, smart, thinking-man's solution to solve the problem.

NAF goes isolationist.

Chancellor Trent falls from power in vote of no-confidence. Isolationist party gains majority government. Diplomacy placed on hold. All military actions placed on secure mode. No new actions, policy is to secure whatever the NAF already has and protect the continent. Isolationist leader Kerri Belore is named Chancellor. She is more moderate than her predecessor Senator Lungwalla, who was in turn more moderate than the insane Senator Evensong. However, she remains an isolationist in principle.

Very little news out of continental NAF due to Isolationist freeze on media and foreign travel.

What made Trent lose control to the Isolationists? It may be years before the outside world discovers the shocking truth but rumour has it that there's something funny going on in the UK - including the return of Mahatma Woz. But we don't know for sure, Chancellor Belore is a strong proponent of the continental federation and an advocate of union with the UK, but her Isolationist policies and heavy-handed tactics have shut down freedom of the press.

NAF abstains on all UN votes except to maintain the status quo. We will maintain our existing commitments to fighting nuclear winter and other research. No new initiatives will be launched. Existing trade deals will be phased out and all debts repaid over 4 years.

OOC: I'll be away a few days so just leave the NAF out of things for a while. My explanation is that we've gone "Isolationist" - meaning we're not interested in the rest of the world unless our security is threatened. Remember we have NAPs with everyone and if that fails, we still have a powerful military (largest on planet) and a powerful economy to sustain it. No attempts to kill the NAF while I'm gone please!

After many years of trying and trying the scietist research le by two of the greatest Italian minds (Leonardo and Galileo) have come to a great discovery.
Looking for a way of contrasting the effects of Nuclear Winter and the widespread of famine (that thanks for the help from the ULS and the Italian colonies in Venus was not too bad).
The solution that the reasearcher founded about 5 years ago permitted to clean up several areas of the world... but was extremely expensive to produce (about 1 milion NAF dollar for a squared kilometer), the two scientist have been looking for a way to replace the element Umn, that was the one that give this bg expenses in production. The two scientist started mixing together elements and chemicals founded in Venus, espcially the one founded in the acid rains of Venus. After five (5) years of hard work they founded that by mixing one of the chemicals of this Acid rains, with a chemical founded always in Venus, Nitrogen and Krypton they managed to create a solution whose properties are extremely similar to Umn. This solution was then substitute in place of Umn in the creation of the Galileian solution.
Th new solution had been called Gelileianus.
Emperor Raffaello and Prime Minister Del Piero both agreed on sharing the results of this research to any nation that ask for free. "This is an issue that touch every nation of this planet, as well as every nation of this solar system, we can not and we shall not keep this secret for us, but we rather share to any nation of this world, former freinds, ally and even former enemies" declared PM Del Piero in a press confernce.

NO MORE IMMIGRATION TO THE MOON
The Italian population in our moon base now exceeds 20 milion, according to the edict of Rodolfo Bortolini of the 2078 that was signed by the former Emperor of Italy and the former chief of the Rebel of the moon, that later proclaimed the United Lunar States, the population of any of the colonies of the moon should never be more than 25 milion, the population of the colonies is now very close to this limit, in order not to exceed the limit immigration there is not allowed any more, the only way that population there will grow is by natural growth.
