Laz, surely you would agree that it is better for Britain to accept immigrants who speak the language over those who don't.

Having said that, we apply no language tests to EU citizens, and they seem to manage. |
Again another exaggeration and more emotive language. Asylum seekers will not be deported, turned away, or in anyway affected by their lack of spoken English. The proposal was, as I understand it, that those who are seeking refuge in this country will be asked to take English speaking lessons. Now I would have thought that this would be of immense help to them. Making settling in easier, and giving them a better start in their new country.
For all of the talk earlier about the Daily Mail I should be surprised to see the amount of scare mongering rhetoric in the above quote, but sadly I am not. It follows the initial statement in vein and vacuity.
Its the same as the Tories during an election, nothing to say of any real substance so lets dress it up and scare them into believing in us.
A poor show by the disenfranchised left, socialist worker would be proud.

I'm aware of that; this was part satire after all...

First off, not all Asians look like Japaneses, you have to be East Asians to have half a chance.
Secondly, Koreans look differently from Japaneses from Chinese, even if only subtly so.

Well doesn't the same apply to Britain? You'd have to be of Northern or Western European descent for the same thing to work in Britain; I would suspect that people of Southern or Eastern European descent (except maybe Ukrainians) would have the same problems.
quote:
You don't have a chance unless you look Japanese and speak native Japanese.

Again, aren't we talking the same thing with respect to Britain? If anything, it's probably easier for people from a wider range of backgrounds to get into Britain than into Japan. We make such a fuss about how difficult it is for people to immigrate to "white" countries, yet the most difficult places to immigrate to are not in fact white but asian - Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, maybe Taiwan and South Korea (exception for S. Korea - North Koreans are allowed in without restriction, as in W. Germany and E. Germany of old). Why are there not sensitivity campaigns about asian racism and nativism? Where are all the people who think diversity is such a good idea when it comes to prosperous asian countries? Surely there must be plenty of Africans, other Asians and south Asians (Iranians and Afghans, for example) that would love to go to Japan. Why should they prefer Australia to Japan?
quote:
Besides, Koreans don't open bars in Japan, neither do the Chinese. |
What's that got to do with it?
