The major difference, which you almost touched on, is that Lebanon is a country. It is also a small country with a government run channel close to lots of other countries which also have a government run channel that people in Lebanon watch. If America was a small country in Europe, I would want to see the American channel to. But the other thing is, there are other "races" in Lebanon. My husband's boss is Armenian, but he grew up in Lebanon, and I'm sure he enjoys Lebanese TV more than he does Russian or Armenian TV (?).
I think that BET is mostly racist against blacks. It proliferates and extends stereotypes, not to mention regenerating racist positivism, the biggest form of racism in the US. If you're trying to say "We're all the same and should be treated like it," then it's incredibly detrimental to continue stressing how different we are.
