The Apolytonian

First Official Poll Closed Yesterday

It was a landside victory as the people overwhelmingly endorsed a limited constitution. The other options for a strict and detailed constitution or for no constitution at all may as well not have even been put on the ballot. The poll is the first political victory by presidential candidate Trip. Legal expert Ira Lexicon (Ed: Made up by this paper) said ' It was a demand by the people that people now drafting the constitution keep it brief as possible". There is some controversy whether this document should be called a constitution at all, but no suitable word substitute has been created.

Voting in Full Swing

Voters have turned out for the first elections of this currently unnamed nation state in record numbers. One poll observer commented that he had never seen anything like it before in the history of this current unnamed nation. One candidate 'the banana' is said to be running in several polls, the legality of which is questionable. It is of note that when this paper went to press he (or she: sex is expected to be male) was losing all of his elections.

Call For Submissions

The Apolytonian would like to extend the invitation to all citizens of Apolyton to write articles or editorials for the paper. “Currently we have one reporter and even though I like him, he's really no more than a damned hack" current editor Moral Hazard stated. Asked who this reporter was he declined to comment, stating " I'm not going to defame my, err his reputation.' It's rumored that the paper will create a scapegoat. Luckily it's also rumored that a better reporter {Sirotnikov}, is currently in negotiations for a position.

Retractions & Apologies

We apologize to our subscribers that the sports, comics, business, gossip, and local sections were not included in today’s paper. We are however looking around for some one to blame for that.

Dear Reader:
We thank you for your letter and for purchasing our paper, you will be billed shortly. As soon as currency is developed that is. The paper will be updated when ever any of the jounalist on our staff writes an article, unfortunately they are rather lazy. So we ask any one from apolyton to submit articles via posting. We hope that just because writing hasn't been developed it will preclude you from sending in your submissions.

Sincerely Yours
Editor Moral Hazard

Very Good idea and excellent work. The Opposition Party will not oppose this, though officially, of course we can not support it either.

Please make sure you watch your grammar, though.

The Apolytonian

Presidential Candidate Trip Takes Holiday

As the election polls come to their closing days, presidential candidate Trip seems to have decided against staying to watch. Supporters say that Trip has earned a rest from his hard-fought campaign and that it is now all up to the voters.

While Trip is currently leading the polls, observers say that this may be an inopportune time to take a vacation. Indeed, many speculate whether Trip has become so overconfident in running against a non-existent rival that he feels he can end his campaigning before the closing of the polls.

Trip's last words before leaving were "I'll be gone for the next two days, so everyone behave yourself. And vote random for the game settings! Don't get out of line while your omniscient leader is away!" - leading some pundits to claim that Candidate Trip has a deity complex, and others to claim such pundits lack a sense of humour.

"Omniscient my foot!" said election observer Skip Takkel. "If he was omniscient, he would have been able to tell me whether my Kentucky Fried Banana franchise would be successful or not. But he couldn't! The only thing he could say for sure was 'no comment'". That last response has some conspiracy theorists speculating about Trip's ties to an all-powerful cabal of industrialist developers known as Firaxis. These self-same conspiracy theorists claim that democracy is a sham because Firaxis makes all the rules and that we're all just "playing their game".

Other citizens indicated Trips' absence would be an opportune time to push for revolution. No one is quite sure what is meant by revolution seeing as how no government has been formed as of yet.

As of publication, the candidate known only as the Banana was trailing Trip by only 11 votes. Trip has 36 votes while the Banana has 25. Many citizens have yet to vote and polls remain open for several more days. Immigration officers anticipate even more citizens will join the fledgling nation over the next while and this may skew the final results from current expectations.

As an angry citizen (and possibly official if I win in a poll) of the Dominion of Apolyton, I'd like to write an editorial. In the poll naming our great nation, many people have expressed great interest in having Dominion of Apolyton as one of the names in the poll. This is a nation run by the people, and the people are being denied of their rights. It's OUTRAGEOUS! Clear arguments have been made against Apolytonia and the People's Republic of Apolyton, yet it looks like one of those will be the name of our nation.

Hmm.... I think that editorials should be named as such.

Editorial : article which suggests an opinion or calls for action.

Newspiece : objective report of news.

Plus, even though I'm lazy I propose better design.

Thanks For all the submissions.

About the grammar; that wasn't the only thing wrong with the first submission there were spelling mistakes, I swapped tenses, and threw plurals and singulars about with abandon. I edited most of them out, but I wouldn't be surprised if a few remained.

Siro -- A new layout would be great. What do you have in mind?

P.S. I have no real desire to be editor; just thought I'd get the ball rolling.

The Apolytonian

Problems with the Polls
Several polls in this nation have caused a bit of controversy. First the difficulty and barbarian polls fell under scrutiny. Some citizens argued for an average. Others argued for a simple plurality, among them tribesman MrWIA, who stated, “Simplicity: the one with most votes wins.” Still others believed that a re-poll was in order, this idea was voiced by another prominent tribesman ADG, “we simply need a re-poll between those two close up, and then see what happens, who gets the most voters.’ Although the debate is far from settled the voting option currently in the lead was for a simple plurality.
Other polls have also taken criticism. The naming poll was called undemocratic by supporters of the dominion and the banana republic. It is also unclear whether the reporter poll will take precedence over the previous poll calling for the sharing of save file among all citizens.

DO you oppose over organization? DO you think we can trust the people to be able to figure things out without many rules? Do you trust that the ministers will make good polls without strict rules about how they should be? If the answer to any of these is yes, you should join the AAACC3! As the fastest and only major party, we can be a good political support in the second term elections! Plus, one of the bonuses is that when you join, you are 80% guaranteed to someday become Vice President (the only member who hasn't been VP of either game is skywalker)!

Life in a Tent
Our tribe has wandered for eons, since um what was our creation story again; I never paid attention when that elder kept droning on and on. Recently rumors have been triggered by the high counsel that the tribe intends to settle, and cease their existence as wandering nomads. Addressing these concerns trade minister candidate Spiffor, stated, “I have highest respect for the lifestyle of our ancestors. [However] Our empire needs a leap forward to insure even more greatness”. Moral Hazard’s concerns were more selfish, “Quite frankly I’m sick and tired of following the buffalo herds everywhere, and living in this crappy tent. Do you have any idea how hard it is to haul my skins of banana rum around? All I want to do is settle down and start a banana farm, drink like a fish and then maybe buy a few slaves.” Resistance was expected to the move, but none has been voiced.

Our World
The world will finally come into focus tomorrow with the conclusion of several polls. Through a pact with our fathers whose is dead and gone; the tribe has been given the power to reform our world. A citizen, who wished to remain anonymous was leery of taking on this power, “Sure we’ve got the power, but I don’t trust my dear dead dad, for all I know he’ll probably come back and demand my first born. I mean, I was his first born, and I know he wanted me dead.”

Moral,

I love your work Justified text or not.

For me (and suppose many other citizens) it is difficult to know what is exactly going on in our democracy. So many people making contributions. So many polls. At least the Apolytonian gives me some overview and therefore I am a enthousiatic subscriber of your paper.

Thanks for the support y'all. I would like some criticism; especially role played. You know like an angry letter about how one of my articles is innacurate.

civman2000: We thank you for your prompt payment and look forward to doing business with you again.

johncmcleod: of course advertising is welcome, I urge all other candidates to submit advertisements as well. Of course we do charge Any form of payment will be fine. A harem lady will buy you lots of advertising. And before any subscribers worry about advertising biasing the paper, theres no need to worry our biases are firmly in place. And remember the advertising keeps the price of the paper down.

captain: Thank you very much for your submission. The paper will send some of Civman2000's bananas your way in form of payment.

Dear Mr Hazard,

Thank you for providing our nation with such a great news paper, even if it is a little on the expensive side.

As a suggestion, I would like to request that you focus on some of the promises our leaders have made throughout their campaigning, and write articles on how well they do fulfilling them during their term.
