I have all adamant armor now

(Well, I have not found a helmet and sheild yet of that material)

is there anything much better (I am skilled at medium armor and have a minor skill in heavy armor(currently I just use medium armor))?

Daedric gives the best armor class, aside from a few unique pieces (like Eleidon's Ward or the Lord's Mail, which are both pieces of heavy armor as well). Trouble is that it's the heaviest armor in the game, too, so it drastically reduces your loot-carrying capabilities. It may be a good idea to stick to Medium, especially since it's a major skill, unless you find a good piece of unique heavy armor. (There is also good unique medium armor, it just doesn't provide the same protection as good unique heavy armor.)

So what's the single best skill to have as a major? Please explain in which capacity, eg leveling, usefullness, etc.


My vote would go to athletics. If you play like I do and don't use quick transport, than running all over the island is a great level upper.

I use athletics and aerobatics as minor skills to get the most levels for my work (they are basically level boosters for the important skils of strength and speed)

my character I created myself

He is an imperial and born under the sign of the autronach

he had bonus attributes in willpower and endurance

his major skills are medium armor, long blades, armorer, speechcraft, and merchantile

his minor skills are heavy armor, spear, aerobatics, athletics, and blocking

his high misc skills are sneak, security, unarmored, and light armor (might be one or two others that I nevre use but which are up a bit)

his favorite guilds are (the places where he has done the most quests from):
Theives
Imperial Cult
Anhassi (not a guild, but provides many quests)

other guilds:
blades
mages
fighters
imperial guards

He has spent a lot of time going about doing random quests

he great material goods are a $9000 katana, a suit of adamantium armor (worth ~32000), and a $12000 ring, he also has an extensive library with many rare books (some books worth as much as $1000) and an extensive selection of thigns to use for alchemy

It is day 54

his journal is 123 pages long

he is not wanted (was only wanted once, for light theivery (nothing was stolen and he was fined $23))

his fame is 5

he dislikes magic (but uses some magical items), and the camon tong (he has killed 10 of them)

I am now playing a Breton Alchemist (made up class), who is skilled in Alchemy, Speechcraft, Light Armour, Small Blade, Restoration, Enchant, Sneak, Marksman, Athletics, and one other.

My thought on this character is that he is a charming alchemist, who likes to travel and hunt up his own ingredients. He likes to travel light as he isn't too strong. He knows how to heal him self as the roads are dangerous. Plus he has the enchant skill, cause it's cool!

I really like the warrior class for going all out in the combat. I would think you could attain a really high level quickly as combat is so prevalent in this game.

I started a Nord Warrior, but decided to go with the alchemist instead.

Great training for alchmey at the beggining is finding piles of luminous mushrooms, and the other ones that are all over the place, and mixing them to create a drain fatigue potion. Good cash, and your not wasting ingredients to create a potion that is worth less than the ingredients. Also something I figured out, which was probably obvious to everyone else, was that if you take 20 of 1 ingredient, and 20 of the other, it will only use 1 of each to make the potion, but the nice thing is you don't have to go back and select new ingredients as they will still be in the mixing screen.

I used rare stuff (worth $10-$30) to level up my alchemy skill (That is the misc skill that I use a lot that I forgot, I knew there was one)

Jon, you should really use the cheap stuff, as I don't think your skill raising is based on the ingredients.

besides I think the 2 ingredients that I mentioned before, are a total of 2 gp, which will create a potion of atleast 25 gp (the potion value is based on your alchemy skill I believe, and possibly the equipment used to create it).

I was just a little foolish at the time (I lost a lot of herbs which I still only have one of (despite it being quite a while since I was working on my alchemy skill)

and I am sure that my skill is much lower than yours, it started at 5

Ya you would burn through the ingredients at that level. I wonder if it makes more sense to find a trainer and have them bring you up to around 30 before you start trying to make potions.

Although his speechcraft is 74, and personality is around that as well. I believe his alchemy is 43.

wow, I had a major skill of speechcraft and it is only in the 60s (and I think I have been playing my ahcaracter longer than you have been playing this character of yours), my personality is about 60 also (it started at 50 so has not increased too much)

of course, my speechcraft is only raised by me talking to peopel thatI meet (I have never worked to raise it (well, I did once, but it was very boring))

Ya I worked that speechcraft... my character is level 6.

I spent time talking with the slaves in the first cave by Seyden Neen.

THe nice thing about doing this is that you get a multipler of 5 for your personality attribute if speechcraft was the only skill used to level up.

I am level 14 or 15

I have had mostly 2 and 3 attribute level ups

I have only the occasional 5 (which is when I want to boost up one of my misc skills (actually I did it for my spear skill since that was so low it wasn't worth it to use it even if my spear was decent)

bump. There are a lot of replies to go through here. I would like to read some of them. I don't want this thread to disappear.

I just recently got the game. But I do want to avoid spoilers. This game is just so huge I'm not sure where to start.
