In Civ 1 there was occasional "Floods strike Rome! Houses washed away. Citizens demand city walls.","Fire sweeps through Rome! temple destroyed. citizens demand aqueduct." or "Volcano erupts near Rome! Citizens flee in terror. Citizens demand temple."
What happened to those? Only thing left is disease.
Citizens demand random events! |
hi ,
yes the could have brought that in the game , with more details , example , a nearby mountain would go off every 1000 years , and go back to sleep after a couple of turns , afer destroying all the improvements in a 9 tile radius , ....
or a tidal wave could come from the sea, same thing , ...
it would make the game more intresting , ...
a fire could rage true the city , the only way to prevent it would be to build a fire-station or so , ...
have a nice day

Ya, it makes it more interesting when you are killing all the other civs and your main city gets obliterated by a meteor and the world economy goes to crap.
Really adds a lot, i think.

There could also be forest fires that would have to be contained by workers, otherwise they would destroy improvements and even threaten cities. Then there are of course hurricanes and tornados, but if those disasters would be implemented they would have to keep them in their natural habitats. That is to say near the equatore ( donīt know how it is written). Of course in order to implement these thing they would have to make the game a whole lot more complex, a weather system.

Some fun disasters (not fun in real life)
I think all the destructive ones should kill one or two pop points and have a chance of destroying one random improvement.
Hurricaines (coastal cities)
Tornados (open spaces cities)
Forest Fires (forest tiles)
Earthquakes (along fault lines which can be put into the map)
Drought (each tile making 2 or more food makes one less for 3 or 4 turns... any tile)
Floods (rivers)
Volcanoes (mountains... but especially along fault lines)
Avalanches (snow capped mountains)
City Fires (any city)
Windstorm (desert)
Rock Slides (hills or mountains)
Size 1 or 2 size towns could be wiped out and anything bigger is safe from total destruction.
Maybe a 1-5% chance that any disaster could be an "Ultimate Disaster" that could destroy 2 or 3 times as much.
There could be a tech like "Modern Architecture" which would reduce the likleyhood that these disasters destroy buildings. The population should always have the same risk though (no technology will save you if you're caught out in a hurricaine without shelter). Added improvements like a firehouse would be welcome and would halve the chance of destruction from a city fire.
Frequency could be selected at the start of the game... Happy Planet, Content Planet, Restless Planet, Angry Planet. |
hi ,
, very good , and the idea of building certain buildings would be great to , they would serve just for the disaster's , or to protect against a bombing run , like the firestation , the damage would be a bit less , or against a spy , putting a fire in a city , ...
have a nice day

Good idea about the spy. Makes me think of a Far Side cartoon. There's two cows sitting in a stable outside Chicago circa "Great Chicago Fire" time. The city is ablaze and one of the cows says, "Looks like agent 02843 accomplished her mission."

And you have a nice day as well.
