	New York: British or American? Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I hv a qx... York is a British city rite?? and New york is an American city... so what happens when the Brits run out of cities and get to "York" on the list and add New York??? What happens???

every city name has to be unique, or it skips over the name and goes on to the next one.

if the brits get the "New York" and theres another "New York" out there (American, or somehting you named for some reason) they'll skip it.

You can name your capital another civs Capital (on the first move) and they're capital will be messed up

Bah! I'd say New York should be a Dutch town instead of an English or American one! After all, we founded the damn city in the first place but those nasty English stole it! Oh, and Nieuw Amsterdam sounds better than New York. So there!

Then New York should be New Amsterdam or New Holland (its original name). But, the Dutch aren't in the game, so it can't be a Dutch city. There's plenty of places in NYC that have Dutch names.

Personally, I never found cities with the name "New". Wait, I take that back. I do if my original city gets razed, then I plop a new city in its place and call it "New" whatever. I did find it utterly hilarious when I first got the game and saw "Berlin 2". I thought, WTF?

I'm considering taking Philadelphia out of the Americans' city list so I can build it every game no matter who I am. I always name my own cities myself. I name my cities after me, then Ultima cities, then my hometown, then Philly, then other cities and towns in Pennsylvania.

Aren't most (mainly Eastern) American cities named after English and European towns/cities.

The first half have English names, but not neccisarily named after European cities. I think Americans are slightly more creative than that . And there are few setlements with Native American names in a native tongue, most have been converted to English like Great River or Buffolo Run or something like that.

Ribannah: I agree almost completely - but you forgot the last half, which are those areas named after "patriots". If you look at a map of the western states you'll be amazed at the number of Jefferson counties for example (I think there's almost one each in Wyoming, Colorado, Montana, North and South Dakota).

Of course, it could be that their version of CivIII didn't have the appropriate patch. Just look at the number of indistinguishable Springfields there are that the Simpons could be living in.

(P.S. For all les Acadiens - yes, it is tongue-in-cheeck)

There is the town of Hell in southern florida. They have a mascot that will often dress up as satan and stand out by the city limits sign waving at people as they drive by. At least thats what my father told me, he lives in florida.

In the game, the Egyptians have a city called "This". I guess it would make sense in Arabic. I recently got a report of "This is not growing, your grace". I also despise how Firaxis couldn't make just about 10 more city names for each civilization. Have you ever heard of a Frankfurt 2?

There are quite a few Greek named towns all over the States: Athens, Georgia; Sparta, IL; Alexandria VA; Ithaca NY; Eureka, MO; and if I am not mistaken I once saw a town in PA called Macedonia! I was driving back to Philly from Niagara Falls. The same names of course get repeated in whole lot more States.

I also have changed the egyptian city names of Thebes and Alexandria and made them Greek as they are historically more accurate!

Although, I once heard that even Instabul is actually Greek, as Konstantinopel is, and means to the city (Is tin Poli), somebody correct me on this on if I am wrong
