That issue, and al lot of other issues, such as celibacy, should be settled once and for all by an ecumenical council where all Christain sects are invited to attend. But the best way avoid the "primacy" of the pope issue is to make it clear that the office elected and all Christains, East and West, are eligible. Perhaps John Paul ought to say, now, that all archbishops and patriarchs of all sects, Catholic or not, are eligible electors. Now that really would be something.

The Pope can retire/resign whatever.

Hard to say if this one will - there is pressure on him to do so.

Suffering from ads?

I think they probably want to have him ride out the current controversy so that his successor is not saddled with the bad PR.
A pretty good strategy, if you ask me. Once the hubub dies down and the pedophiles have been dragged into the light, they can start off with a new Pope and a fresh start.
But this one is looking pretty raggedy. I'm sure it will resolve itself soon.

Tired of ads?

I think legally the Pope can do whatever he feels like doing. People have been saying he doesn't have six months left ever since he was shot. He and Ronald Reagan will probably outlive us all at this rate.

When Jesus decides to take John Paul, he will, without any help from any of us.

When Jesus Christ decides this church need a change, he will make his though know to all of us.

Uh, jesus never went to rome. He may not even have spoken Latin. Furthermore, he was killed by the Romans. St. Peter founded the catholic church, in the sense that he brought christianity to rome. But hey, I suppose yopu have a right to believe in the Easter Bunny.

Matthew 16: 18 is usually the quoted source for St. Peter's authority in founding the only true Church.

I believe in God; I don't believe in churches.

I am reminded of a joke:

A lady dies and goes to heaven. St. Peter meets her at the pearly gates. He shows her around, and she has only one question.

"What is that wall?," She asks?

"Oh, we keep the catholics over there, so they think they're the only ones here."

Then why did Jesus tell Peter that he would be the rock on which his church would be built?

Says who? The pope?
C'mon, The Holy Ghost is the representative on this planet. Not any human.

quote:

God didn't start any church.
And I can't find the phrase 'roman catholic church' anywhere in the bible. Besides that, there are too many foolish things going on in the RCC to claim it's the only true church. Praying to Maria, celibate, just to name two.

quote:
When Jesus decides to take John Paul, he will, without any help from any of us.

That's true

quote:

You might have missed Maarten Luther, a few centuries ago

And about the pope, I don't care about him in any christian way. Of course it's important for the global issues. But hey, he's not Jesus' representative on earth. I like him though. After all he's a christian, that's a good thing.

I find it funny how a believer can a have a problem with that. Mary was human and therefor people are more comfortable believing that she might understand their problems. Its pretty darn clear that Jehovah sure didn't as if Jehovah could he sure wouldn't feel the need for a human sacrifice which is what the alleged sacrifice of Jesus on the cross is supposed to be.

They are NOT praying to her like some kind of ancient worship. They are trying to commune with someone. Someone dead and gone but that is what belief entails. You pray to a dead man yourself.

Its true there are some peculiar ideas in Catholicism based on what the Bible says but all christians have ideas that are in variance with reality and the Bible.

That's true as well. But that always happens when people try to be free from the opressors.
