Boris, Mr Fun, red_jon, (possibly Fez, no offence if not) Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Hiw dos gaydr work? What do gasy bloke go for? I only ask because I was twiice propositioned by two unrelayed blokes tonight. A lthough 'flattering' I was teased all-night by my semi/potential-girlfriend. And this is not the first time; I was asked out on several occasions at university, including once by my tutor!.

Is it because I am blonde? Am I cute? I need to know, so as to avoid the 'problem' in future!

Its not so bad when its teenage girls, but when its by guys in their mid-twenties its both disconcerting and worrying.

It's an acquired skill. Obviously there's false positives, because there are straight men who for some reason or another set off the gaydar, but it's remarkably accurate for some people.

It's hard to put into words what it is that can set off the gaydar, it's just instinct for the most part. Stereotyping doesn't work well.

Tired of ads?

Are you losing some more of your innocence, Sagacious?

Anyway, in my opinion, this concept called gaydar is hard to describe in neat, arbitrary terms.

People argue if it is really a legitimate social concept, and then there are others who argue HOW gaydar works, among those that agree it exists.

Does your gaydar help you determine another person's sexual orientation by behavior, clothes, and/or physical appearance??

I tend to believe that for the most part, gaydar relies on behavior and clothes and not physical appearance. There are many straight men who have similar or the same hair styles that gay men have, for instance.
A lot of straight men also have high cheekbones, so that is out too, in my opinion.

And there are gays who will hit on you, while not sure if you are gay or not -- they tend to find out AFTER they take an interesting look at you.

By the way, Starchild is going to spank you with his fairy rod for not including his name in the title.
And what about Asher?

I don't keep a list of gay blokes on Poly, and the names mentioned were the first to come to mind.

Whilst I'm more effortlessly tolerant to alcohol than SD, I've been wondering the same thing.

On the way back from the London Poly meet, a middle-aged guy started chatting to me at Notting Hill Gate, and asked me if I'd like to come back to his flat to see his 'computer'. (I told him I worked in computers).

And just yesterday, a stranger asked me if I'd like to come back for a cup of tea, as I was walking home from a friend's house through a local park.

And today, a strange man passed me in the street and said 'hello' for no apparent reason.

I don't think clothing plays a big part in it.

I don't dress "gay" and I still get guys hitting on me.

Suffering from ads?

Mannerisms is only good for the stereotypical gay men, who can be quite femme.

There's actually quite a big chunk of the gay population who don't flap their hands around while talking.

I know, and there are some that slip right past my gaydar, but even those who aren't really obvious still have managed to pick up an affectation or two (including speech-though not necessarily the stereotypical lisp).

oh FFS!!!!

(im a bit wasted too)

that has to be the corniest pick up line

but ive heard that gays have problems finding mates so when they do its pretty straightforward their come on to you.

well no for me.

the only such incident was at the army where a gay (but gay like he was showing it and playing aliki sto nautiko err like i dont know drama queen) asked me to go out for a coffe with him which i politely refused.

no such incidents after or before that.

i think i was the only one actually "daring" to make fun (in a good humoured way) of his "drama queen acts" instead of pulling a straight face like everyone else did, thus the liking.

btw there was some incident with some track driver who was also serving his term in military and that guy, a **** and the situation turned a bit ugly laten on with the truck driver being allegedly abusive to him etc

so i asked (the gay guy) why dont you control yourself and not let these things happen?

and he told me: if you were the only man amongst 1000 or so beautiful women would you be able to completely control yourself?

thats when i understood the "gay peculiarity". which is simple. they are attracted to other men and thats that.

gaydar is a real thing. So is the Jewbell. You can tell a a guy is gay by the way he walks. Its so freakin obvouis someone stuck a cucumber up there and broke it off. The way they talk. They talk differently. Just look at there hands ; they flail around like women. They just hired a guy at work and everyone thinks he's gay. He has all of the signs I mentioned lol. Nothing wrong with that. As long he doesnt rub my back and ask for my phone number.

Oh and no offense of course. I can also spot a jew any time. There mannerism's give them away. (*cough/ they usually have big noses and dry sandpaper-skin too*cough)

If thats stereotyping then Sue me. But ive never been wrong about spotting a jew or lesbian .

That isn't gaydar, thats looking at the stereotypical gay man and connecting the dots.

That's only the most obvious type of gay man. They're called "flamers" to be more precise. And I don't believe they actually form the majority of gay men, they're just the most visible.
