	DIA : Candidates ? Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

Hello fellow DIA members !

As you probably know it, elections begin in 5 days, Monday 12th August. So far, nobody stated he would run for a post.

We need to find candidates to all posts, but some are priorities :
- Foreign Affairs Minister : to support good relations ith neighbours, nd make builder strategies more viable
- City Planner : once we have chivalry, building knights or not ill be the big issue. We shouldn't let warmongers decide if our cities produce libraries or knights.
- Public works : we need someone ho can plan ahead, or who can attend turnchats. the minister of Public works is one of those who require most work, but things are plannable, and you don't have to attend turnchats if you give your plans beforehand.
- President and VP : we need to defuse all dictatoial threats which lurk on the DemoGame. A president who knows his democratic duty will help Apolytonia to survive to this difficult time.

I'd like to tell that all these posts require much time, and need to be able to attend turnchats. People who spend about 1 hour a day on the DemoGame can be candidates for FAM and City planner, if they can plan to attend the turnchats as well.
The president will need to be very active on this forum. Someone on vacation in front of his computer would do best.

Other posts require less time :
- Minister of the Economy : about 30 minutes a day wil do the trick, once we are connected to other Civs. It's possible to give precise orders before the turnchat.

- Minister of science : setting up polls and planning on science. Attending turnchats is better to face unexpected situations, but if you make a big scheme beforehand, you won't need it.

- Minister of Imperial expansion : once cities locations have been worked out (such a Will 5001's plan), his main job is to petition to get more settlers. This is something we can plan ahead.


You'll notice I didn't talk about the ministry of the military. It seems "DIA" isn't an appealling label for this post, so I don't think we need a candidate for this election.
I'd like to point out that I won't be a candidate this term, because I will have very little internet connection in September.

Alas, I still don't have a sufficiently well-stocked and sufficiently stable supply of spare time available for an official post.

Also, I will be absent from August 12 through August 25, so it's not a good time to start anything...

I am not running for a second term as President

This is mostly because of real life scheduling issues. If I could schedule it well, i would run again. Maybe sometime next year

Spiffor: We don't know how the whole 'revolution' thing might be going, so many of these roles might not exist.

I would also state that I won't be running for anything either as long as the gov. is what it is today- though if fundamental change happens, I may run for something.

I've just seen skywalker will run for Economy. I feel I'd betray Apolytonia if I let such a serious post to a guy like him.
I might run for economy once again (AFAIK, the official limit is 3 consecutive terms at the same post) if no other serious candidate wants to take over.
If someone like Aggie or Lawrence of Arabia want to run for economy, I'll gladly hand it to them

(note, I'm a good builder but I suck at expansion : i would be a bad IE minister. Economy, City planning, workers or diplomacy are my trade, but I'll be only able to do Economy with my time constraints)

I am not insulting you, and I'm not swearing. I'm just clearly stating that you're not serious enough for this post IMO.
I worked much to make the ministry of the Economy running, with a very complete site, which allows me -and anybody who bothers going there- to have latest economic info.
I think you just want some power, and have no genuine interest in economy. Proof is : you ran for SMC, IE, science, economy, and IE again (did I forget something ?).

The fact that I doubt your competence is not an insult. It's my strong belief, and I always liked to be frank.

I'm interested in Civ3. And, yes, maybe I do want to actually be a Minister, but is there anything wrong with that? I have been in the Game for as long as anyone.

I'd be happy to run for Minister of Science (as I'm Australian, therefore can't attend turnchats).

However, I'll be out of contact until Tuesday, as I've got to go interstate (it's a once a year thing), so I may not be around for the elections. But I'll be back in time to do my job, and I'm on all the time, so I can't see this being much of a problem...

OK. If possible, please prepare some campaign speeches beforehand, for us to post them when needed. Last time, we've lost the Public Works election because our candidate was unable to campaing (away during election time).
People thought he wouldn't be around.

I would love to run for something but my busy schedule disallows it and my knowledge of Civ3 is quite inferior to many of the people here. I get creamed at Emperor.

i am quite unsure about this but I would be willing to have some government role although I am completely unsure about which one. Iwould be willing to either campaign as city planner or foreign adviser But i would state the same thing as Trevman-
perhaps some research and possible training is inorder -hmmm

I may not be DIA, or UFC or anything but nominally the only surviving member of the crazy 3A2C3, but I should point out that once you have been in such a game for a while, you don't need to be an excellent player. We have undoubtedly some of the greatest Civ3 players on the forum here, and their talents guide and teach us all the time.

All you need do is poll on what to do, the debate begins, and it becomes clear which option is best. Then the people vote for what seems the best (everyone has SOME feel for a good plan), and you recommend this to the Prez/VP. Actually perhaps the easiest jobs in this regard are VP and Prez - all you do is follow everyone's orders and post comments (and deflect all criticism with a steady supply of stock witticisms ).

So I encourage you guys to get your feet wet - if Prez or VP are too much to start with, go for Public Works (a little concentrating on which roads to put where - the current plans will help you set priorities). or Imperial Expansion (city choices already planned out somewhere).

I can say that in the Civ2 Demo game I was ASKED to run for Prez by a handful of posters, and I let my ego get to me and ran, despite my concerns that I couldn't handle the role. It was a breeze(although it took a few hours a week since we had reached the late Industrial era and had about 300 units)! I just followed orders and posted on them, with the odd improv where orders were vague(that's what the Civ2 game is like). Here it would be easier, as the Prez is allowed basically no power.

So go and put your name down in the nominations thread. You're probably already posting the same amount you need to for some Ministers' positions, and just think - when you're a Minister, there's a certain amount of respect there, whatever you've done or whoever you are. Whenever I see someone with "Minister of xxxx" in their sig or location field, I feel a slight awe. So go on and make me feel humbled around you.

I will run next term.
Probably not for President / VP, but apart from that I'm willing to run for pretty much anything.

This term is bad timing because I'm about to leave for two weeks.
Mind you, I'll probably have some kind of excuse in another month from now as well, but if I've already given my word, I'll just have to make time for it, won't I?

I am not a DIA member, also I am only abstractly questionning this point. Why someone with military talents would not take the DIA label ? Lee was not a warmongerer, and he was more than good. And from the Party point of view, leaving the place to others reinforce the prejudices against the peacelovers. It also tends to demonstrate that as far as the military security of the nation is concerned, people has better to look after warmongerers.

one can only ask "why" , and learn from it

it seems also to be the case that most new citizens dont want to get in , .....

I'd like to advise all DIA candidates to go to the official candidacy thread. You need to declare yourself in that thread to officially be candidate.

This goes for Jonny (candidate for IE, opposed by Skywalker), and Darkness' Edge (candidate for science, against Apocalypse and Duddha).

EDIT : Currently, nobody at all will run for SMC and Public Works. I suggest Rendelnep runs for Public works : it doesn't need too much Civ-competence, and you can often do the best possible solution if you take the time to plan. Plus, you can listen to suggestions from more experienced players if you feel unsure.
Even if you can't attend turnchats (provided we still do turnchats next term), the PW minister is one that can plan much ahead. It takes some time, but you don't have to be in front of your computer during turnchats.
