Can a Monolith disappear? Increase the size of your Attachments

I'm playing my second SMAC (Patch 4) game as Gaians on Specialist level. I captured a neighbouring Believers' base which had a Monolith adjacent to the base square. I repaired two damaged mindworms and a conventional unit at the Monolith. In the next turn, the Monolith simply disappeared!

Has anyone else come across this phenomenon? Is there a maximum on the number of times a Monolith can be used per turn?

Monoliths have a set chance for disappearance every time they are used. I beleive it is something like 1/32 probability the monolith will disappear. Cold happen the first time you use or the 100th time you use it.

Thanks for the info, OO. Is this documented? I don't have the manual so I'm finding things out from the downloadable guides and by trial and error (applying many of the principles of Civ2).

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

IIRC, monoliths have a certain number of randomly generated "uses." After a monolith is "used" up it simply disappears.

Thanks for the previous thread reference, TKG.

I think this forum could do with a systematic compilation of undocumented features as well as the distilled wisdom of past posters ala Civ2's Great Library. Any Thinker/Librarians game for the task?
