I'm new to CTP PBEM so any suggestions on set-up are welcome. I play about King level. Thanks.

I guess this was a bust. No interest in One-on-One. Okay. How do I get in a new game? Any help is welcome.

Actually, I'd like to play if this involves about 5 players. Games with less players aren't so interesting, games with 8 players are too slow. Also, it's not good to have any AI players in the game, as this will then not be a human only game. If this game is about to live, here are my suggestions about the settings:
5 players
Medium Map
Max Barbarians (I realy love those red guys)
Map:
60% Water
100% Diverse
50% Trade Goods
60% Continential
I offer this as I love playing a game, where a strong navy plays an important role, and there's a small possibilty that you're starting alone, with noone nearby. So, I guess we'll soon see is this game to live or not, as others come. If it will, I'm Solver of the Jewish with my email ugita@latnet.lv

Sounds good, Solver. Count me in with exactly the settings you mentioned earlier. That's two players, we only need three more...

Thanks for the advice, Bird Man. I guess I'm used to playing chess on-line, where the response is almost immediate. Still waiting for three more players.

Lung -- Please count me in the death match tournament (as a standby player). I'm not that good but I'll give it a go.

Well, agreed. I will start the game, as soon as two more players appear.
Dattler and Quinns, what civ would you like? So, Dattler will be turned to AI after his 1st turn made by one of us.
One more important question: what king of a quickstart scenario shall we use? If we all start with just one Settler, first 10-15 turns are of no interest, for sure. I don't know how to create scens, moreover, I think there's something wrong with it in my German CTP. However, here are my suggestions for this: 5 Settlers, 1 Warrior (perhaps 2), about 2000 PW and 3000 Gold.
Speaking about game settings, I would also like to know which difficulty level will it be. Here i want you to vote, as in CTP I'm not an ultimate expert. I can beat Warlord with no problems ever, and I can beat Prince with some problems. So, my suggestion for this would be Prince, however, I think we can also try King, but Deity is too difficult for me.
We should also have a name for this game, so that we cn identify it.
What are your timezones, guys, and when are you making your turns? Just to know when can I expect my turns to be recieved.

Great Solver!
I vote for:
Regular map size (as described earlier)
King
5 Settlers
2 Warriors
2000 Gold
Nation to Represent: Ireland
Leader Name: quinns1
Timezone: Pacific (California, USA) (GMT minus 7 or 8 hours)

Dattler is in. I imagine that it won't be much of an advantage to the player setting him up (as long as the player doing the set up ignores the small scale map while doing the set up -- on my honor).
Alright Solver, that leaves two more players needed. I can set up the scenerio on my computer (with a little guidance from someone).
Still looking for two more players...

Okay Dattler... sounds good. I just found out from Solver that I need patch 1.2 for CTP. I'll download at about 01:00 GMT on Wednesday, and test it. After that I'll begin the set up. Looking for two more players...

I applied the patch and my computer can run the PBEM just fine.
Dattler, I tested the turns through twice, but I couldn't make the settings switch from Computer-controlled back to Human-controlled once the game started. Once the PBEM starts with the settings you give it initially, it doesn't look like you can switch it back.
Also, I don't see any options for setting the barbarians to "raging hordes" as mentioned earlier. And I can't figure out how to do a "quick start" with the 5 settlers and 2000 gold. The only thing I saw in "cheat mode" was the ability to add the 2000 gold, but that was it -- no unit quantity changes allowed (as far as I can see). Can somebody help me with this?
If not, I vote for forgetting about the "quick start" and just go with the one settler and 100 gold (as usual).
I'll set the Wet/Dry to 50%, and Warm/Cold to 50% as these were not mentioned above.
Looks good otherwise! Ready to roll once we get some more players. Sorry Dattler, unless you can tell me how to overcome this no-switch-back problem, we are going to have to wait for someone else.
Best regards to all.

I'd like to join your game but I'm used to Med Mod 4, and my wife would probably have a cow. However, until I get up the courage to join you, at least I can help you out with some of the issues in your last post.
First the control of the players is handled through a seperate window that is opened if you hit the single apostrophe key('). The command to change from computer to human control is /detach # where number is the number that the player appears in the list. For example if the zulu player appears third in the rankings list then changing him to human control would require /detach 3. The command to return to computer control is /attach #. To close the window just hit enter.
Giving players additional units at start can be done in the cheat mode using the unit/city button. If you hit this button you will be given a chance to select a variety of things including; city, army, navy ... special. Selecting special will open an icon window with all the special units. Just select the settler, then you can place a settler anywhere on the map just by clicking. However, As far as I know, to see the starting locations of the other civs you will have to use the show map command (I think thats it, right now I'm not within access of the game). Its possible that the starting locations can be seen in another less revealing fashion, but I don't know about that. Finally, you will want to hit the show map button again to rehide the map.
I hope this info proves helpful.

Hello All,
Thanks for the threads. That helped. If I would just read the READ.ME files, I wouldn't have had to ask (duh! 8( ).
I got it all working except for one thing. If I edit the scenario and map, then I know where everyone is "set up" and what the terrain looks like. That's a very big advantage if the other players are not privileged to this same information. (Am I being dumb again?)
How do I keep this map information hidden from myself while I'm changing the scenario -- or how do I share this map information with everyone else playing??
Regards to all.

That's great St Jon. You are in.
One slot left...
So far we have:
-- Solver of Latvia representing ? as ?;
-- Dattler of Denmark representing the Ethiopians as Haile Selassi;
-- St Jon representing the Dutch as ?;
-- Quinns of the United States representing the Irish as Quinns1;
Solver, what country / leader name do you want?
St Jon, what leader name do you want?
Alright, once we get one more player, I'll set up the scenario trying to keep a "blind eye" to the terrain and locations as best I can. Also, I'll try to set up the time zones to roll from California (me) westward. I imagine this is best in order to keep the game going the most smoothly.

My apologies Dattler... "Dattler of Germany", not Denmark.
Okay. We have five with the Bird Man "of Denmark". That's great Birdman. And, thanks for correcting my mistake about Dattler.
I agree with Dattler's suggestion to use the random map creation without adding any units to the scenario. I can grant gold to all the players without having to view the map at all. This would be the most fair way, I believe. If we all agree to do this, we just need to agree on an amount. Any suggestions? How about 5000 gold each?

Sorry, guys. I was too busy for some days, so I couldn't access this place. Well, Quinns, create the scenario, send it to me, I will start the game. I want to start the game, as I have started PBEMs, while you have NOT. Settings were above. I will be Solver of Jews, but I'll specify that myself.
Suggestion: perhaps we should let Arthur play instead of Dattler, so that we don't need to have any AI in the game, because Dattler is likely to be AI for some time. I will let Arthur play, I would say so. If noone says Dattler should come, I'll do so. However, we can decide to have 6 players, but I wouldn't suggest that.
Bird Man:
I see you want to play vs. me, don't you? Slaver? I'm not. I'm currently substituting Sowasabauch in Do some PBEM, and when i started he have had Slavers, so I decided to Slave, if he wants to. After all, it's Sow's game, not mine, in fact.
When I'm playing, I don't usually slave. Actually, I'm a peaceloving person, who never wants war, unless having real advantage.
BirdMan, did you specify your civ? Or will you be, as always, Hagar of Vikings. I guess you need Vikings, but what about leader name.
We need to name this game somehow, so that you can type it in Subject of email you're sending. Name is up to you, I guess. Once the game is started, I'll post a new topic with player list and we'll post their turns there.
Basically, many of this information is only meant for Quinns, as for all the others it's not first PBEM. So, Quinns is some kind of a PBEM newbie.
