MOBIUS, Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.

Well then, without objection, how does this "Elimination Rule" sound to all of you. If we don't hear any objection, it will become a new Rated Game rule soon.

*** RATED GAME RULE CHANGE/ADDITION PROPOSAL ***

Elimination Rule --

If, in a rated game, a player:

a) resigns;
b) changes status from "rated" to "unrated";
c) gets annihilated; or
d) gets "next turned" for three turns in a row,

then every remaining player in that game "DEFEATS" THAT PLAYER THREE TIMES (as measured by the normal ten turn phase defeat).

For example, in a 5 player game, the first person who gets "eliminated from the ratings in that game" would be "defeated" 12 times (as measured by the normal power graph 10 turn defeat), (3 multiplied by 4 remaining players.) This equates to an average decrease in ratings of about 2 to 3 points for the eliminated player. The second player eliminated would be defeated 9 times (3 multiplied by 3 remaining players), ... etc.

In the case of resignation or three consecutive "next turns", then that resigned player's civilization will be "next turned" until a replacement player, (either rated or unrated), takes over that civilization's control.

This proposal favors the military victory over the alien life victory. I think there should also be a bonus for finishing the alien project. So maybe this could be added: if a player wins by completing the alien project he defeats every remaining player three times. Any objections to this?

Hey Quinns/Shavlor .. what happened about Rating Fixed game??


I'm the game admin, and I've already accepted rating Fixed Game.

All except Billhq have accepted too(Stavros, You(Quinns), Keygen, Me), I will attempt to contact billhq about the game. If I cant get in touch with him, we assume he doesn't want to get rated. Besides he can always join in later.

May we rate Fixed Game oh mighty Shavlor, Gaurdian of the Holy Rating system, and protector of the integrity of Player Rank.

Updated the chart. Taking a look at the progress chart, it seems like TheBirdMan will soon take over position number 1.
At the moment everyone can play the turns when he wants, no delinquency penalty is applied. But, this amnesty will end at January 7 2001. January 7 is the last day you can play when you want, starting January 8, delinquency penalty will be used, and the players will be nexted. Why? Because we gave an amnesty, and now the games are stuck again. Say, we had excellent speed at Islands game for several days, now the turn is stack for several days.
I expect the Eagles at War game to have it's 9th turn played, and the ratings will change again. Then, in January 2001, the Top 5 game will start. I own the scenario, which starts in the Modern era, perhaps I'll change it a bit. Wait for the threa entitled "Top 5" to appear on the forum, so now you have to try hard on it.
Quinns, add Do some PBEM to the active rated games listing and note that Stavros wants to play unrated there.
Stavros, if you will be in the Top 5, you'll have to play a rated game then, I think . Can't yet understnad, why don't you like the system? The CtP PBEM community likes it a lot, it now is quite an important part on the CtP MP arena. Why not?

Solver, this is about the third time I've asked... WHAT IS THE PLAYER ORDER OF "DO SOME PBEM??" I would be happy to add it if you give me the list with the rated and unrated player names. Place the unrated players in parentheses, i.e. (Stavros), ...

Also, I will add Fixed Game 2 to the list with (bilhq) starting in an "unrated" status.

Oh man... Common Quinns I told you that I would start a single player game to beat the AI on the Deity level. You told me that you would wait a week before entered me in the ratings!
I'am planning on starting it tommorow and I could tell you the winner at Sunday morning (Apolyton time) . It would be pity to beat the AI (if I can) and not be rated accordingly.

Alright, as soon as my home computer is working, I'll update your rating to 21 (not 21000 you optimistic program tester!!) . The "." is a decimal point not a thousands separator.

I wish I could rerate myself... I destroyed Deity by the year 1806, but it's too late now. My initial rating was set awhile back, and once set, it can only change by rated game play.

I would request that for the next 20 Turns I am counted as 'unrated' in Fixed as I have inherited a not altogether healthy position. Effectively I will be being 'rated' for the policies and play of another player rather than my own.

If Slamp, Thor, Frazer and Birdman are in favour of it then let DC become rated. Neither Slamp or Frazer are involved in any other Games and will simply lose points for inaction which does not reflect their abilities.

Like Fixed I understand if Thor and Birdman wish to delay, or refuse, their listing as they have both come in as Subs of Civ's occupying the lower half of the PG.

Keygen, Team Spirit has to be submitted by Stavros (the game starter) with a list of all "willingly rated" players (in the turn order of the game), along with the turn number that rating status is desired. The submission should be made to this thread. I check it regularly.

I'm not sure if Team Spirir should be rated!!?? I'll talk to the players. I think TS is a bit of a special case since it is a team game, and I'm not sure how we should rank it. After all, one team member may sacrifice stuff (gold, tech, men) to the other, in order to help his teammate. This would hurt his individual ranking while furthuring his cause. No One player can win. Only a team. So I'm not sure if it is apropriate to rate these games.
But (as always) I'm open to discussion
